Got my first ever order of stuff in today...picked up an Icon, Boge cartos, and PS liquid. I got 2 tobacco flavors, menthol, and plain mint. I started with Nashville's Finest...it smells and tastes like hazelnuts or Frangelico...nothing like tobacco to me. Yuck...I hate Frangelico! New carto and on to menthol...tastes like cough drops and hazelnut. That sounds gross but I liked it better than the first. Another new carto and Minthia...the mint flavor didn't seem very strong to me, somewhat subtle. What I found odd is all three flavors had a similar subtle background smell/aroma/flavor. I can't put my finger on it but it's lingered around and I can still smell it even after taking a shower. What the heck am I smelling?

Anyway, I'm guessing I'm either running the cartos too dry (managed to get 20-30 drops in each before it was saturated) or the base liquid must have it's own flavor or smell? I didnt really care for this first experience and I am hoping someone can tell me how to make it better.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I was so excited to get started but now I'm kind of down. :(

I just started a couple of months ago and I know from taste-testing a lot of e-liquids that it takes a while to find the one(s) that work for you. Don't give up. I have a whole tackle box full of liquids that taste nasty but finally found out that I really like the chocolate flavors the best. It just takes a lot of sampling. I personally like Ms. T's Bakery's stuff the best. But if you are going for the realistic cigarette flavors I am sure there are a lot of experts on here to guide you in the right direction. Don't give up! It will be a life-changer for you when you find the right combination.

Were you or are you still a "smoker"? That's my problem, I just threw out the analogs and lighters today. So my taste buds aren't back yet. I'm having trouble tasting all my vape juices yet, and I got a lot of fruity and sweet flavors (cherry, whiskey, clove, vanilla, chocolate peanut butter fudge).

Give it time, as soon as a few days maybe, and you should have a more enjoyable experience! I hope I do!

Also, once you soak your cart, I've heard its good to put a drop or two on the atomizer, to sort of "prime" it. Make sure it's just a drop or two, don't soak it! That may help

Attys sometimes come with "primer" PG on them but since you're using carto's that shouldn't be a concern. Never heard of vaping any flavor that lingered around the way you describe. That's very odd. Finding flavors you like can be a challenge as there are SO many out there. Best thing to do is try n meet some other vapors who'll share some of their "duds" with you. One man's trash is another man's treasure. I'd recommend you try some RY4 since so many folks seem to like it. But again, you'll have to play around with it.

Welcome to the board, Sdad!

I found that no e-juice ='s tobacco. Tobacco has it's own deadly smells. I was a Salem Ultra Light person and ordered the Salem equivalent in e-juice. Blah! Phooey! Whoa Nellie! My first thoughts were that it was flat out disgusting. I still use a menthol, and mix a few myself. It'll get better. Once you do find THE e-juice you really love, it won't feel and taste so bad. It is not the same as smoking an analog. I'll be analog free a year at the end of this month.....and I'm thankful! Don't give up!:)

Hi & welcome to ecf!
There are some vendor with excellent e-liquid which I think you should try, maybe your liquids are not your taste. Maybe the weird taste you had was the nicotine in your liquid, but to be sure, you should try FreedomSmokeUSA, TastyVapor & Alien Vision E-juice, IMHO. Everyone got their own different taste, but FYI, there are no e-liquid which can resemble an analog (the real cigarette/cigar).
As for me, i'm done trying to find a liquid that taste exactly like a cigarette. After several months of trying millions kind of e-liquids (i am exagerating here), I found that i'm perfectly happy with some dessert flavors, candy flavors, beverage flavors, or anything between. Vaping is a whole different world compared to smoking, and I don't got that 'smoking urges' anymore. I hate the smell of burning 'coffin nails' now. They stinks.
Good luck in finding your liquid *spot* in vaping. And most importantly, don't give up.

Your taste buds will change a lot in the first 3-4 weeks. Smoking dulls them after years of smoking, it takes awhile for them to come back. What you like the first week you make hate the 2nd, what you like the 2nd week you might hate the 3rd. Around 3-4 week the flavors will settle down and you will find what you like.(Did for me anyway)

i got my first e cig today. i have been a menthol smoker for years so naturally i assumed i should order all kinds of menthol juice. luckily, someone suggested i order some sample flavors. I ordered 7 juices, 5 of which were menthol and i tried those first. I was extremely dissapointed in all of them, except for my non menthols. i recieved a pomegranate and a cinnamon which i thought would be neat to let my non smoking friends try and had very low expectations for them. I have been vaping them all day. I realized that vaping is not about what you are used to with real ciggs as much as they are about ridding you of the craving and satisfying you with something else. I am sure that there are good menthol juices out there but my suggestion to you is to buy samples of different flavors that you enjoy outside of smoking. I have not gone this long without smoking a real cigg in years and it feels great

Congratulations! Cinnamon is a weird one, not that its a weird flavor or anything, its just amazing how many vapeheads I know who use cinnamon almost constantly. I'm one of them.....

I got an Apple Cinnamon in a sample pack I ordered with my PV. Still haven't tried it yet, although it's in a tank, ready to go!

Thinking it may go good with my whiskey in about 30 seconds...

Listen to these wise people. I'm in the same situation, it's frustrating and even embarrassing, people have even been kind enough to gift me juice that I know is Art, juice that I know is exceptionally Fine Stuff, but most of its beauty is lost on me right now.

I can't appreciate even a fraction of its beauty and nuances that I know are there, and it may be a year before I'll be able to!

So what I'm doing is, anything, juice or cartomizer that tastes good NOW, no matter how unsophisticated or plebeian it may be, that's what I'm puffing.

The other stuff is waiting, in the proverbial cool dark place, it's not cow cream or a mango, it isn't going to spoil, if anything, it will get better, like wine, and when I can smell and taste again, THEN, I'll go back through, and see what I really like, and - here's the really cool part - which ones I get to put in the PIF section, that the universe may guide them to their rightful owner!

It's the liquid you're using, TRUST ME. vaping is such a let down to new users when they have crappy juice.. unfortunately it takes money to find a juice/flavor that you're satisfied with.. and we can't all tell you which flavor to get because taste is truly truly subjective.

spend some dough on the popular vendors you hear here on the forums until you find something.. then trade off the rest here in the classifieds

I HATED menthol cigarettes, no I mean really HATED them!!! The only time I would smoke them was if I had been without for a long time and that was what was available or if I was really sick and couldn't get enough smoke to ease my cigarette cravings due to coughing out the smoke before I got any nicotine.

I was shocked to find that I LOVE LOVE LOVE menthol liquid! Through asking about I have found that this is common. It seems that those who hated menthol cigarettes seem to like the liquid while those who loved menthol cigarettes seem to hate menthol liquid.

I also thought that I would only like tobacco flavors but I have found that I really don't like any of them but have several flavors that i do like that I did not expect such as the fruit flavors.

The main thing is that since I quit smoking I don't get bronchitis 5-6 times a year like I used to when I smoked. I have also found that even when I do get sick vaping does not make it worse. In fact, vaping menthol seems to have the effect that vicks vapor rub has in opening up my airway.

Keep going! Good days are yet to come!

Be careful with cinnamon and plastic, the cinnamon can dissolve tanks and clearomizers if it uses real essential oils.

Just an FYI. I killed a clearomizer before I learned about this. I love cinnamon, I just drip or use it in a cartomizer that's not plastic. :)

Got my first ever order of stuff in today...picked up an Icon, Boge cartos, and PS liquid. I got 2 tobacco flavors, menthol, and plain mint. I started with Nashville's Finest...(

Sounds like you started out EXACTLY like I did - my first order was the PS Icon, cartos and PS nicquid (someone recently suggested calling it that rather than "juice" or "e-liquid", and I like it).

While that was enough to get me off the real thing from day one, it was... less than I expected overall. I have found that most of PS nicquids leave me wanting, with the exception of their Karma Scotch (which is awesome) and Manchester (which took a while to grow on me). Nashville may take time to "steep" before you like it; Or, you might never like it. Taste varies.

You are DEFINITELY on the right track and didn't make a bad choice! But you will want to check out other nicquid vendors. Some of my go-to's are Mad Vapes, DFW Vapor and recently AVE (Alien Visions) and Prime Vaping.

MV has great prices and I've liked about 75% of the nicquids I've tried. DFW is a little more mixed but their awesome flavors are awesome (Banana Moon Pie, Mtn. Dew and BACON!) and service is great. AVE Boba's Bounty and Gorilla Juice are spendier but phenomenal tobacco flavors (other flavors are great, too, I like everything I've tried so far). My AVE order just came in yesterday but I'm already in love with the three flavors I tested last night.

As others have mentioned, don't be surprised if your taste changes over the next few weeks. It will make a difference, and how fast that happens depends somewhat on how much you vape (vaping more out of the gate seems to slow down the tastebud recovery a little). And taste changes as you figure out what you really want out of flavors and vaping in general; Many folks think they will want tobacco flavors only and end up fruit fanatics or waffle hounds. :)

Finally, don't be surprised if you end up spending a surprising amount on nicquid at first in your quest for the perfect flavor(s). It's worth it once you find them, and you can always pay-it-forward by gifting the nicquids you don't like to the first person or two you convince to make the switch!

Welcome to the Vaptrix. :)

Welcome. I searched for a liquid that had that nasty ashy ciggy taste and I found it. It got me off analogs finally. It is Pure Cig from My freedom smokes usa in 30mg I add a couple of menthol crystals and it taste just like the USA Gold menthols I use to smoke. I still use it everyday. My other fave juice vendors are Kick bass vapor, Alien vision and I wanna try Pure vapes. Good luck

have to agree that it sounds like the juice, I have noticed a subtle but strange aftertaste/smell with some lower quality juices. In my opinion its worth it to purchase premium juice because its still far cheaper than cigs ever were. Taste is really subjective so its always best to try a bunch of samples from different vendors and find out what you like, freedomsmokeusa has their 3ml samples for very reasonable prices, I also recommend trying alien visions and backwoods brew who both offer samples and have the tastiest juices I have tried yet.

Just a shot in the dark but I had the same experience. Although I REALLY try to like cartomizers to me every one I try including Boge tastes like mattress stuffing no matter what the flavor I vape. So I advise friends to always start with a plain old atomizer and cart first and then experiment from there. That and try Halo juice. As everyone says its a process. It took me a couple weeks to find what I like.
