So I'm at work today, and i was just coming inside from my vape break because e cigs were recently banned inside the facility.

A Co worker, who is a well known smoking nazi approaches me and says, "How was the antifreeze?"

I gave him a puzzled look as if i didn't know what he was talking about. He says, "you know that's antifreeze you're smoking, right?"

I have been prepared for this conversation for awhile. I replied, "oh, you mean propylene glycol?" He nods. I said "propylene glycol isn't antifreeze. It's an ingredient used in antifreeze. Do you know what else is an ingredient in antifreeze?" He says "no". I said "water" ...long pause...

I told him that just because it contains an ingredient used in antifreeze doesn't make it bad, and it definitely doesn't make it antifreeze.

He seemed to be out of things to say because he hadn't actually done any reading or research on the topic. i went on to say that propylene glycol is also used in the ventilation systems in hospitals to help prevent the spread of airborne disease.

He says, "well, i still don't want to breath it. But given the choice of that or cigarette smoke, i guess... "

I said, "exactly!" Conversion over. I don't think that i convinced him that it's all safe and good, but i think i really surprised him when he saw that i had a reasonable argument to his accusation. I think he originally thought that he was going to teach me something. Turns out he didn't know anything except some propaganda he must've heard on the news

BWAHAHAHAH water... awesome reply. Wish I coulda seen his face. You shoulda been like hold on a second *snap a phone pic* ..K, continue with your arguement.

PG is used to make anti freeze less toxic.
And is in food flavoring, and medicine and in dog food and much more.
I hate when people say that.
Great response!

Not to be a d-canoe, but I don't even bother to respond to people who say that. I could correct them and possibly educate them, but... pearls before swine and all...

There are two types of ignorant:

1) Those who know they are ignorant and seek education.

2) Those who are happy being ignorant.

It's not that hard to differentiate between the two. It is incredibly easy for me to completely ignore the vowels and consonants coming out of a willfully ignorant person's mouth. No sweat off my back, like a duck in water, live and let live, leave the willingly ignorant be and just move on. Not worth a breath from my mouth.

I can always tell when someone who is ignorant and is willing to learn, though. Their brains are usually more developed. They are aware that they are ignorant of facts and are willing to learn. Those are the save-able people. They have potential and hope. It's all the others... At some point, just leave them to their own devices.

They'll scrape by.

Not exactly related but I've been watching Ghost Hunters since 2006 and... I haven't seen single, verifiable proof that ghosts exist. Yet a whole TV franchise surrounds it. Not to hijack the thread or change the subject, but... We also also watch Toddlers and Tiaras, The Jersey Shore, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Honey Boo Boo...

This is American society at large: "The Almighty tells me he can get me out of this mess, but he's pretty sure you're fooked."

Better than what my responses would have been:

"You know what else is in antifreeze? Your mom!"

Or perhaps "I think you need to take this up with Dr. Thumb and his four lovely nurses. *open-hand-smack"

Or maybe "I can't believe I have to breath the same air as people like you. That has to be harder on my lungs than the 'anti freeze'".

"Did you know I had a dream where you died? Actually it was a day dream. Still having it. Still having it. ...."

when I get that argument I usually ask do you know what kind of antifreeze?
they usually stare at me and go umm No
that's when I tell them that it's the antifreeze used and drinking water systems

and then go on to explain how was in every single artificial flavoring there is
in about all of it other uses to that have to do with ingestion or injections
