When my brother visited a few weeks back, which I haven't seen in years reiterated something we used to live by. Something that touches home because we are both parents of autistic children. We don't care what other people think.

Along that philosophy if anyone hits me with the anti freeze comment I'm going to say straight out..

"What else would I use in this hot ... weather to cool off?"

Then maybe educate them if they seem worthy or if not, I'll go in my baby Jesus routine.

Not to be a d-canoe, but I don't even bother to respond to people who say that. I could correct them and possibly educate them, but... pearls before swine and all...

Not really. I would have said, "what are you a ####### chemist now ace?"

Shut'em down, they don't come back and they warn other workplace dooshnozzles. HTH

Thanks for all the positive replies everybody. I wish I could go back in time a few hours and tell him more of the stuff you guys brought up. I should also mention this guy is a "health nut" He considers himself a body builder even though he is probably 100lbs overweight. He drinks several protein shakes a day. I didn't even think about it at the time, but protein shakes contain artificial flavoring. I did a quick good google search, and sure enough, most protein shakes contain propylene glycol.

I'm not going to look for an argument with this guy, but if he ever brings it up again, I will tell him that I'd bet he's already consumed propylene glycol today. It's in all those protein shakes you drink. Check the ingredients. So using his logic, he's actually drinking antifreeze.

Let's all memorize this:

"Propylene glycol is used
- in vaccines, cough relief syrups and gel capsules
- in bath and shower soaps, gels, face cleansers, shaving foams, after shave, antiperspirant deodorants, lipsticks, fragrances, and perfumes
- in hand, body and facial moisturizers, and sunscreen products
- in shampoos, conditioners, and styling gels
- in baby wipes and antiseptics
- in mouthwashes and toothpaste
...so, come to think of it...YOU COULD PROBABLY USE SOME MORE OF IT."

The one laser I use to surgically cut through an argument, I learned from community college writing courses.

Research.

99.99 percent of your detractors will spout hear-say nonsense, and they'll believe it.

Present them with stone-cold, hard-core, solid facts, with verifiable proof (trust me, they will not look it up, even if you beg them... But don't lie or fudge numbers!!!!!!!).

If presented with the opportunity to learn facts, and they choose not to, I no longer acknowledge them in the conversation. It may come across as rude, and yes, quite frankly, it is rude, but I'm not going to dally.

Ignorance is bliss... but only sometimes.

100 pounds overweight?

"Did you know they have gravy flavored e-liquid? Still think it's a bad idea?"

I can see breaking this down for a pesky brother-in-law, but I'm not the type of person to get into protracted discussions with anyone outside my inner circle. If you don't like something I'm doing, that's your problem.

well...just like the militant ignorant (I don't care what you say I ain't changing my mind folks) against those of us in the "firearm community" you could beat them unconscious with facts and proof and evidence...and they will NOT change their minds

gleefully ignorant are those that JUST DON'T KNOW...show em the light and they usually click over...

Possibly save a little bit of energy and sanity and just let those people go... Some's ya can, some's ya can't. Old Louisiana Cajun proverb I heard back in high school. Didn't make sense until recently.

So, you are saying I (and many on this board) are .01%'ers? As much as I hate being grouped off, I like that.

One I never did look up (because my own experiences support it) - I heard some type of informal study was done where people with extreme political and/or religious views (atheists was considered strong religious) were presented with facts, some people contrary to and some supporting their beliefs. Somehow the facts always strengthened their resolve. That's right, even if they were the group present with FACTS that were CONTRARY to their beliefs, it strengthened their resolve.

So, yes, if a person doesn't hear the truth presented, it is best to just leave them where they are.

they do make antifreez with it. its a "green" product that is both biodegradable and animal safe :) put that in your pipe and smoke it:smokie:

Yep....

I always point out to these idiots that the dangerous, toxic antifreeze they're thinking of was made with ETHYLENE glycol. But, in most people's head one scientific sounding word that they don't understand is exactly the same as any other scientific sounding word that they don't understand, and that "glycol" part sounds vaguely familiar, so they conclude that it must all be "bad".
