If you ever get a chance to go to the French Quarter during Mardi Gras, its a Party you will never forget..
A King Cake is basically a round cinnamon roll filled with all sorts of goodies, the best IMO, is cream cheese..A little plastic toy baby is in the middle. If you get the piece with the baby, its your responsibility to purchase the next one. Its a Louisiana tradition. Mardi Gras' official day is Fat Tuesday, and ends on Ash Wednesday.
The baby is also supposed to bring you good luck. I've seen King's cakes on a lot of things, but never tried one. They sound yummy though. When I was in Nola that was one of the things I didn't get done. But I did have a powdered sugar fight at Cafe Du Monde with our beignets, and I got a Muffaletta at Central Grocery, and brought home 2 jars of the olive salad, yummm. Got to go crabbin and of course had a huge crab boil that night. Got to do a few things that were on my bucket list, and very glad I got to visit that area before Katrina hit.
