I would bring an Ipad to Europe. You might want to find directions or book things, most hotels have Wi-Fi. Also GPS might come in handy. I don't know if you guys already have everything planned out or whatever, I'm a fly by the seat of the pants no reservations type, so being wired really helps. I also like to research where I'm going the night before or even read that night about something I say during the day.
There's also an app for iphones/ipad where you can take a picture of text, and it will convert it to digital text and you can translate it, it uses Google translate. This is great for restaurant menus or train stations. This app is also great if you have a memo or something else that you don't want to retype but don't have a digital copy. Just take a picture and you're good to go.
