I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but all day long I've been thinking about this. Since the Great American Smokeout is coming up on November 18th, is anyone interested in sending a letter with your personal experiences using a PV to the FDA, and perhaps your state's tobacco Control Agency?

If I send a letter, it's one letter. If anyone reading this sends a letter, and they are all mailed on the 18th, it would have much more impact. I don't even know if the FDA would be the best recipient, but the more positive exposure we can generate, the better. One of the posts I read today suggested contacting Consumer Reports, or Mythbusters, to debunk the myth that e-cigs are AS DANGEROUS as smoking tobacco.

any thoughts on this?

I think it's a great idea! As long as it involves contacting an agency other than just within our state. Sorry, but mine is fairly minimally populated and I personally only have contact with two other vapers. Unless there is a bunch of Montana vapers lurking around on this forum, there would be no way to get the word to them. I'm sure a lot of others are in the same boat.

I just looked at the statistics for this forum. Out of 47,000 members, 7,000 are active members. As of this evening, there were 370 members and 400 guests using it. It's short notice, but maybe something will come of it. I'll keep watching and see. Thanks for the suggestion.

Two of my smoker friends don't know it yet, but they are getting a starter 808 kit from me on Nov 18th!!!!! I can tell they are really intrigued by my vaping, yet they just don't know where to start. I have recommended this forum, but they are both still smoking. So, I figured I would give them the gift of vaping. If it is successful, we can all swap juice recipes and hardware recommendations. If they don't like vaping.....well, at least I tried. :)

Thanks for the heads-up!

Sent this email today:

I quit tobacco products on 8/8/2009 thanks to e-cigs (electronic cigarettes, personal vaporizers, etc.) If you do the research that I did before embarking on this method (and what I would expect from an ombudsman), you would see that this is an effective alternative to smoking cigarettes.

Smoking cigarettes is a 2 part addiction. #1 is the Nicotine; but #2 is the psychological addiction of something in your hand, something to puff on, seeing the smoke on exhale. Patches and Gum do not satisfy the second part of this addiction. An e-cig; with no known carcinogens and only FDA approved ingredients such as Propylene Glycol, Vegetable Glycerin (and, of course, varying amounts of nicotine) provides a non-lethal alternative to smoking AND satisfy the psychological addiction I alluded to earlier.

Got this reply today:

E-cigarettes are regulated by FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER); not the Center for Tobacco Products. By way of this email I am forwarding your comments to Mary Kremzner, the Acting CDER Ombudsman.
