Excellent article (but a terrible title) on the rapid growth of low priced vapor products in the UK.
The big smoke: Why e-smoking is flourishing
http://www.economist.com/node/21695963
"vaping can cost 90% less a month for someone used to smoking 15-20 cigarettes a day, says Shane MacGuill of Euromonitor."
Another ECF thread cited a new American Cancer Society funded study claiming that e-cigarettes cost less than cigarettes in every country except the UK.
Study finds combustible tobacco cigarettes cost less than e-cigarettes
Except that ACS funded study actually found e-liquid and rechargeable vapor products are significantly less expensive than cigarettes in majority of 45 countries studied (if the same vaporizer is used for several days, weeks or months, which is typical) and that disposable e-cigs are more expensive than cigarettes in vast majority of countries (something else we already knew).
The study was very well done and even calculated how many days you would need to use the same rechargable vapor product (in each country) before the daily cost of vaping would be lower than buying a pack of cigarettes daily.
But the abstract of the study totally misrepresented what the study actually found
Combustible cigarettes cost less to use than e-cigarettes: global evidence and tax policy implications -- Liber et al. -- Tobacco Control
Even worse, American Cancer Society's press releases falsely claimed the study found e-cigarettes are more expensive than cigarettes in 44 of 45 nations (because ACS changed the study protocol to falsely assume that the cost of vaping for one day included the full cost of the rechargeable vapor product, which is totally disingenous since 99% of vapers use the same rechargable product for several weeks or months (or years).
