WOW!! someone else who uses the foam block instead of the polishing pad!

When I saw the video on how to cut & use the polishing pad, I assumed I got the wrong type of Fluval & got the pads. I tried to do it like the video, which was wonderful, but I personally have better luck with the foam so I went back to that.

I was just curious, Elendil, do you have a special way to cut it, or do you just play the 'trial & error' game?

I've only been doing the eye ball method, but if you have any tips to make the process go faster, I'd LOVE to hear them!

No special secrets, but once I have the right size piece, I use that as a model and cut several in advance. I also use a piece that looks too big for the cart, but I find because of the porous nature of the material, it actually works much better if it is tightly packed. It does seem to work much better in my 801 carts than in the smaller 510 carts........

Sounds pretty much the same as what I do.
Since I use a straw with it, I've noticed if it basically fits the cart, then the compression is perfect for liquid when the straw is inserted -- most of the time LOL

And thx for letting me know about how it works in the 801 vs 510. My primary right now is 510 (but use a 901 whistle tips on them), but I just ordered a stick & if memory serves, that comes with the 801! :)

Thanks & once again, you help has been invaluable!

So sorry guys. I knew I was forgetting something. Ok, I bought this at JoAnn fabric stores. Here's the thing. It says flame ......ant and also says bonded. The bonded refers to the way the poly is braided together. After extensive research (through Joann and Fairfield who make this product) I have found that the flame ......ant part is simply a normal trait of this polyfil. There is no additive. It is 100% White Ployester Fiber. I have been stuffing my carts with it for weeks with no problems at all. The brand on this bad is "Soft n Cuddly".

Are you sure it's not called "Soft N Crafty"? That's the closest thing I see on the JoAnn website.
