Hi,

I'm a relatively new vaper (approx. 3 months) and proud to say that I've been smoke free that entire time, other than a few drinking occasions with buddies.

I started out trying Breathe Fresh pre-filled for a few weeks, but I was going through at least 2 cartomizers a day, and the batteries started dying on me after 2-3 hours. Was not really happy but I liked the idea of e-cigs, liked how my wife and kids were happy with me being healthier so I kept looking.

After a lot of reading and some advice from Cropduster901 I decided to try the Echo. Very happy with it overall. The battery is awesome, I have two kits so I've always got two on the charger at a time.

For e-liquids I've tried a few different sites though I won't really review any today other than to say pretty much everything I've tried from Virgin Vapor has been awesome. Very happy with all 12 or so flavors I've tried so far from her.

So... on to my questions for the vets!

1- Cleaning Echo carto's: I've been boiling them for 15 min with water and vinegar then another 15 with just water after rinsing them out. I've let them sit for 2-3 days upright so they can drain, but I don't think they are draining, because when I fill them with juice again, I have to seriously hoover them for 10 minutes or so with no vapor, and once the carto heats up I can blow out more water. Does anyone have a better way of cleaning/drying the Echo Carto's? The ones that I want to clean aren't empty, they are ones that I've filled with juice that I'm not at all happy with and won't be vaping.

2 - Looking for a good 510 battery recommendation. For the road I'd like one that's a bit smaller than the Echo I can take with me.

3 - Echo battery timing out. I have some lower MG juice, and tend to take long draws when vaping them, I find after about 5 seconds or so the led starts to flash and the battery cuts out. Is that normal for the Echo? Would I have better control if I went to a manual battery?

4 - I'm looking to try the Torpedo Tanks and the Colossal Dual Coils. I really like the idea of being able to see how full my carto is. Anyone try them?

5 - Syringe method of filling. Where the heck do I get 18 gauge needles from? I don't think the pharmacy stocks them, and don't think it would be easy to explain why I want one even if they did.

Think that's all my questions for the moment, I appreciate in advance any help!

Welcome!

For a smaller battery kit, you can always get an ego. Or the Echo-e. It's a 510 and you can get it with smaller batteries, I think it comes with 650 mah batteries. You can try the tank on that. A 510 is pretty versatile. You can use the echo-e cartomizers, try at attys, dual coil cartos.

You might also like the echo-e because unlike the regular echo it has manual batteries.

I usually get syringes at MadVapes or Good Prophets.

No idea about cleaning the cartos. I just got some echo-e cartos yesterday and I've been trying to do some reading myself about cleaning them. I copied this method- (sorry to whoever posted it, I didn't copy the name).

My cleaning advice:

I. disassembly
The way to clean them is first get they carto wet - pour some water over it just to get the filler moist. Then take some tweezers and gently pull the filler out. The filler being wet is important because dry it will pull apart some.
II. cleaning
Soak the empty cartridge in warm water, or for advanced cleaning use some pga or an ultrasonic cleaner (although I don't do these things). Then unwrap the filler, notice there's a tinier, thinner cloth at the center (don't lose this ). Wash the fillers thoroughly with some hot water and soap (I suppose there's good kinds and not-so-good kinds to use, but hey, ymmv). Rinse thoroughly being careful not to stretch the bigger filler very much, because it will warp if you're monkey pawing it. It's an excellent idea to give it a distilled water rinse down after this, otherwise you will taste icky faucet minerals for a good while. Dry by pressing between two paper towels, or placing on hard surface and pressing with paper towels, or using a blow drier (be cautious of flying fillers!). Rinse out the cartridge, give it a distilled water rinse, and blow it out from both ends. Then use a blow drier or let sit upside down overnight.
III. re-assembly
Insert a drinking straw over the cartridge straw. A McDonald's red straw is easy to find and only requires a slight enlargening on the end with a pen/tweezers/whatever to fit. Other straws that would fit all the way down are preferable, but I don't have any. Wrap the filler around the straw semi-tightly being certain to keep the mini rectangular cloth-like filler as it was originally (long-wise vertically against the cartridge's straw) and gently twist down into the cartridge until the top is flush. Use tweezers/whatever to push the rest of the way down into the cartridge until it stops. Hold the filler down with the tweezers/whatever and gently twist the drinking straw out of the cartridge. Gently pack down filler a little more, and you are done

Greetings back at ya! I don't use either the Echo or the poly filled cartos; but I'll try to answer a couple of questions until the carto experts show up (they will ;)).

Most commercial batteries have a cut off for how long the battery can be activated; this is true for automatic and manual batteries. A 5 second cut off would be normal, the flashing LED is an indication of the cut off being reached.

A 'regular' Joye or SmokTech 510 would be smaller than the Echo; but the batteries are ~200mah, which would give you about 2 hours of vaping before needing recharged. The eGo/Riva is a 510 version of the Echo (or is it that the Echo is a 901 version of the eGo? :D) so it probably isn't smaller.

A number of ecig vendors offer syringe needles. Here are MadVapes needles Filling Syringes

Hope this helps some!

ETA: Dang, while I was typin' da Swede showed up :)

No, you're right! I missed that and thought he was talking about an ego, not a 510.

I like my 510. I got mine at Rocky Mtn Vapors. Short batteries just don't last real long.
