I guess I have to start here for 5 posts before slumming around in the other forums. I must say I enjoy the reading.

I'm a 3-pack per day analog smoker who has been analog-free for 7 days now. (Ok, I cheated last Sunday when I found an orphan cigarette lying on the floor in my Ford. It was stomped on, kicked around and mutilated almost beyond smoking but somehow I managed to inhale it all - filter as welll. Holy crap was it good. I hope it was my last).

Years ago, I tried GreenSmokes but couldn't take 'em. They were nasty. Then, a week ago, my lazy-assed nephew who owes me a freaking fortune gave me a blu cig starter kit. Some might say it was fate or merely good timing which prompted me to make a go of this e-cig thing again, but more than anything I suspect it was Mrs. Kodiak's new decree that the garage would henceforth and forever be off limits as the designated smoking area. Or as she put it in that gentle and loving tone of hers, "You are stinkin' up my car dumbass!"

It's freaking cold up here and after a few days of scraping snow off my testicles I decided to start using those blu-cigs I hadn't opened yet. Hey, they weren't bad. The batteries suck to high heaven and my jaw hurts from trying to get a decent throat hit out of them but for a week now, they've kept my nicotine cravings in check and my testicles dry and toasty. These blucigs are stealthy little .......s too. I've been using them in the strangest places.

So here is my newb question:

What is responsible for throat hit? Is it the Vapor or the Nicotine level? Perhaps both? The analogs I smoked were pretty heavy and these blucig cartomizers just don't cut it. I suspect the tiny battery affects this as well. At the end of each day I get a slight headache which I suspect is a symptom of withdrawal from the nicotine levels I'm accustomed to. I'm only using about 2 blucig carts a day and since I'm a dumbass (as per Mrs. Kodiak), I think I've been smoking them pretty dry and just don't know any better yet.

So yesterday, I ordered a Vea starter kit from Johnson Creek along with an assortment of carts and even a 3-pack of their tanks (canteens). Also, some stronger e-juice. I'll keep the blucigs for a quick fix when out and about but I'm hoping the Vea will help without the need to vape 24/7.

And of course, after I ordered my kit, I discovered this forum. Go figure.

This forum. Oh, you're in for it now. Be prepared to have some fun and learn more about ecigs than you ever thought possible. Congratulations on quitting! This is THE place for support, answers and all around great information with some really great people.

I started out with a knock off ego type battery and some menthol eliquid. A few weeks of that and cigarettes, I found a creamy flavor that I love so much I stopped cigs altogether.

Johnson Creek has a good reputation here. Welcome to the forum!

I'm not familiar with the Vea set up. I use clearomizer tanks that hold liquid (evod, protanks). When I get mine, I order it with and 80% pg, 20% vg ratio, 16mg per ml of nicotine, then I order "tickling" throat hit and he said he uses capsicum for that. The guy I order from will fully customize any order of liquid.

Welcome KODIAK™ to our family!
I just have to ask... How did you manage to pull yourself away from ECF in less than a half-hour?!? That takes more willpower than quitting smoking if you ask me! :D

3-PAD (Packs A Day) is is hard-core man! What nic strength did you order BTW? it's ok, we'll wait...

Nicotine strength probably has the biggest impact on the throat hit (TH) along with all the the other variables that were already mentioned.
I, personally went thru a pack and a half every day of the "Reds" and the 24mg was the sweet spot for me. Most heavy smokers turned vapers usually go the 24mg route, most drop down to 18 within a few months as your body adjusts... and it usually happens pretty quickly.

It's a delicate balance finding just the "Right One" for you too. Did you smoke full-flavored or ultra-lights? Did you chain-smoke a few or keep it steady? These are some of the things that we have to consider to better help you out in your decisions. Get back to us, we'll be here. ;)

I am also not familiar with the "Vea" set up but I was a 3 pack a day plus 3-10 cigar smoker.
I'm sure as you get more deeply into vaping you will find better devices and tastier jooz's to satisfy any cravings you may have.
I started out with an ego kit and 24mg jooz and I don't really see the need to lower my nic intake at this point and probably never will! lol As far as throat hit 24mg jooz and a heavier pg ratio should provide a good TH for you.
Feel free to message me if you need any help.
Good luck on your new vaping journey.
C.B.

Welcome to the club Kodiak! Congrats on quitting. I am glad I started to vape prior to winter hitting Minnesota. I can only imagine it is colder and snowier up there! I see plenty of people are helping you on the journey. I just wanted to encourage you to ask plenty of questions and you WILL get good (and varied) answers here. Nobody will call you a Dumbass either! (Unless of course Ms. Kodiak decides to join up on the forum! ;) )

Welcome to the forums from another noob. I too tried the Blu cigalikes and didn't care for them. Congrats on the quitting! From what I have found, and I haven't scratched the surface I'm sure, ECF is full of all sorts of good information and great people who will quickly provide answers and insight to any question you may have.

Enjoy the Vape!! :vapor:

Hey Unc!

3-PAD (Packs A Day) is is hard-core man! What nic strength did you order BTW?...

I ordered 2.4% on the nic strength. The max I could find at JC. Also some samples at 1.8%. I think I'll be ok. These blucig cartos are 16mg strength and I can feel the "nic" when I get a good vapor hit. So far they've gotten me by.

Did you smoke full-flavored or ultra-lights? Did you chain-smoke a few or keep it steady?
I smoked full strength generics. These things were so harsh they brought tears to my eyes and put hair on my teeth. I believe they were made with the tobacco they swept from the floor at Phillip-Morris after each shift change. Then a dog crapped in them. Cheap though (as cigarettes go anyway). The only time I chain-smoked was in my car because that's about the only place I could smoke. Weather permitting I'd sit outside and smoke a lot. Honestly though, since I use my hands a lot I think a lot of my smokes just burned up in the ashtray while I'd read or used a keyboard.

But holy crap, at $3.70 a pack that was still 10-$11/day. So I took last week's "savings" and just bought the Vea startup kit. If these squirrely-assed blus can get me by for a week then I should be ok after some experimentation with the new kit. Again, I feel "satisfied" and really no cravings. Just that little headache that starts about 6PM.

I feel pretty good about this. Tried quitting before but never had much success. Besides, it's got to work this time. New Grand baby on the way and I promised Mrs. Kodiak I would. (And one does not piss off Mrs. K :().

Thanks everyone for the welcome and TH info!

Ah yes. The days of smoking in the garage during a cold winter. Good times.

Not really.

Anyway, congrats on dropping the nasties that were crapped in by a dog. The fact that you did it with blu is surprising to me especially since you were a 3 PAD guy. This forum has a wealth of info and it is a lot to take in. That kit you bought may not last you very long because if you're like me and many others here, you'll want to tinker and go for the "perfect vape". Welcome to being a quitter!

Heh... Good call on not getting under the skin of the significant other!
Sounds like you'll be fine then with what you ordered. The Vea should make you a happy vaper!

Your description of the generics is a riot!

im going to assume they just put it down differently adn 2.4% is 24mg and 1.8% is 18mg would be my best guess.
is the device you got a variable voltage device?

I'm hoping this is the case as well Rancor. In my innerwebs travels on this topic I've found that many juice providers seem to have different naming conventions. But the numbers 24, 18 seem to be constant.

is the device you got a variable voltage device?
No. 650mAh, 2.8V.

Johnson Creek Vea

I know what you're talking about though as I did research some "twists". Maybe when I outgrow the above. Right now I just want to keep the real cigarettes at bay and vape with as little hassle as possible for a while. Plenty of time for nuclear gizmos later on.

Yes, 2.4% is the same as 24mg. Take away the decimal point and that tells you the mg/ml.
It confused me the first time I saw it too.
