HELLOOOOO Modders !

OK, so I plan to update this thread with my work and ideas as time goes by, but right now we are in the "Concept" phase. I expect as much as a month until we are looking at a finished prototype, but in the meantime maybe other modders might see something they like.

I plan to do a few proofs of concept and then decide on a final config for what I see in my mind as a pipe style mod.

Simply building a battery case to use with standard carts is not my goal... all day on a single battery is admirable, but refilling and changing carts almost defeats the purpose in my mind?

please note that I have been vaping for about a week and this is my first mod, I have read alot and thought alot, but I know I have much to learn yet.

Day 1:

my first proof of concept, Simple and Ugly
took me about 10 minutes, I cut a square hole in the side of a KR8 cartomizer at approximately the spot where the NiChrome coils around the atty core. and "Screwed" a 3mL bottle into the hole, hoping that gravity combined with wicking material contact with the end of the dropper would feed Juice to the atty.

Results:
If I vape like I normally would, I can see a tiny air bubble travel up the nipple of the bottle after each puff or 2, and the nipple maintains fill and contact with the polyfill.

If I hold down the button and "Chain" puff into my mouth without inhaling, the nipple empties and does not refill, Juice is simply being used too fast for surface tension to pull it down the nipple. This may be possible to remedy by simply boring out the nipple tip into a wider ID.

P.S. thats 24mg Sweet Orange liquid, If I had an empty dropper I would have just used plain PG, but instead I now have a buzz and cannot continue to test at this time lol.

So my second day of tinkering...

The first thing I did was try to improve upon the idea of a gravity / drip feed into a KR808 cartomizer...

I bought some pens today at work that had stainless steel sleeves and caps (Cones) ... with the intent to create an easier to incorporate juice reservoir.

Stuck the cap onto the battery end of a completely gutted carto (which I thought would make a good reservoir) Filled it with blank PG and it flowed like a sieve. Next I tried filling the cap with Stainless Steel Wool from my kitchen drawer to cut the flow. It did in deed cut the flow down, but not Nearly enough, probably 2 drops per second with no top plug... enough to flood the atty in about 3-5 seconds hehe.

I also took one of the Positive Atty terminals and put it into the gutted cart Backwards this makes a smaller hole in the dispensing end of the reservoir and also leaves a nice little drip tube hanging approximately 8mm out the end of the reservoir. As smart as I thought I was buying the pens... I think I will cut the pen cap out of my design completely and just put a small plug of polyfill into the bottom of the Res to control drip-rate. This also lends to compactability as the pen cone is 19mm long and the atty tube is 8mm.

^I am going to work on this as my main avenue because it has another thing going for it that I REALLY like... using the gutted carto as a reservoir
means you can probably just cap or "Cork" the end, and pop it off anytime and refill the reservoir within seconds.

I also wanted to try out something else I had been thinking about... something that didn't work very well at all hehe. Last week I bought 3x 1' lengths of clear tubing at the hardware store. I cut a couple 3/4" long sections of the 1/2" tubing. and used a couple of snippets of 3/8" tubing as washers to make a clear "Capsule" around 2 different cartomizers. One carto has a single hole in the top (same one I stuck the bottle in) the other has two small Slits dremeled into the sides.

Both of those attempts led to an EXTREMELY flooded carto that simply reflooded as soon as it was blown out... and a nice bit of mess to boot. (luckily I was using my plain PG and not wasting real juice to test these things) To make the "Capsule" technique you would either need several VERY small holes, or you would need BIG holes and a capsule filled with wicking material. I won't rule out option 1 as a future possiblity, but option 2 there is pretty pointless if you ask me.

Pics to follow, including one which contains my extremely well polished design document !!! Ok, its not polished at all, but its to SCALE at least

Blue square = 18350 Li-Ion Batt.
Yellow = KR808 carto.
Red / Purple = gutted KR808 carto with reversed atty terminal
Grey = size GUESSTIMATION for an RCA plug for power

Green lines are 1 inch long for scale reference.

Looks to me like it might be possible to fit a fully vapable package including
1200 mah and 2+ ml juice reservoir into something about 2" tall and 1.5" wide.

P.S. going out of town for a week in a couple days (Vegas) .. when I get back my 18350's and switches should be here.

I couldn't fall asleep last night, and as I lay in my bed in my normal insomial phase... I may have had an epiphany...will thumbnail a Design doc at the end of this for my "advanced" model.

My Epoxy mod is probably going to be put on the back burner for this, and it was still in the planning stages :p

OK so what got me started on this was the incredible failure that my "carto capsule" turned out to be. (the clear vinyl capsule around the carto that flooded it to no end) ... I got to thinking about vinyl tubing tho.. Everyone seems to spend a considerable amount of time looking for just the right flashlight or laser pointer to mod, and even then it is usually not quite right for thier needs. Why not use clear vinyl for the case I thought?

Building a Basic mod with a vinyl case would simply require taking the battery of choice to the hardware store and finding some tubing with the right ID to slide it in and out with a touch of spare room for wires. start at one end and build your switch and install springs and wires, pop the batt in, cut to length, and build a cap. I don't think I would enjoy the testing, but being a semi soft substance... I'll bet that this mod would survive a drop test better than most to boot.

I really don't care so much about LED's but if you want to pop a couple in there, the whole thing would light up like the 4th of July. Don't want clear? paint it (leave holes for LED's if you like?) or wrap it in textured vinyl overlay.

Alot of Vinyl tubing is rated "food Grade" and used in plumbing applications, which means it shouldn't matter if your juice comes in contact with it repeatedly. Which lead my to the advanced model concept.

Previously I had been looking at some kind of juice reservoir that was based on the "short and fat" dropper bottle... but why? ... why not have the Res be a long and "thin" tube of vinyl running parallel to the battery inside of the case... it could hop out the atty end of the case and pop onto a nipple in the cart. Puffing on the cart (even with the vents built into the end of my 808 cartos) should decrease pressure inside the cart enough to pull some liquid out of the tube.

A 1/4" ID vinyl tube translates to approximately 6mm ID (3mm Radius)
Pi*R^2*L = 0.2826*L = approximately 1 ml volume of storage per 3.5 cm of tube length.

A 3/8" ID vinyl tube translates to approximately 8.2mm ID (4.1mm Radius)
Pi*R^2*L = 0.5278*L = approximately 1 ml volume of storage per 2 cm of tube length.

I had already ordered 2x 18350's (short and fat) .. this mod screams long and skinny batteries. so I will probably have to order a couple other batteries to prototype this out. Thank god for universal chargers I say.

P.S. I already said I'm going out of town for a week, I won't be able to even START on this till I get back... but the things I post here, I don't care if you rip my ideas to make your own personal mod, just let me know how it works hehe.
