Just kidding. I've been vaping about a year. Currently using a Griffin on an RX200, been making my own juice for a couple months.

Primary setup before that was a sigelei 150 with the crown. My first setup was a sig 30 and atlantis so I guess I've come a ways. I used a velocity (clone) for a while but I got tired of dripping all the time. Loved the airflow though. The Griffin's been by far the best tank I've used but I still want more airflow. I tried my friend's Triforce/Trifecta and oh mama that was the wind tunnel I was looking for. It's expensive though. Right now I have a 0.4 ohm normal build in the Griffin running at 55 watts. I don't think I have the wicking perfect but I'm kind of lazy when it comes to messing with building coils and wicking, it feels like kind of a chore to be honest. I don't have a very sensitive palate (I eat like a dumpster) so I don't think I would notice subtle variations in types of coils. That being said I've only tried standard and clapton coils. Not opposed to trying new things per se, just don't feel it's very important for me.

Anyway, up to this point I've mostly just been on /r/electronic_cigarette, felt like branching out for variety and more knowledge.

First thought, the extra calculations for continually measuring the resistance of the coil and regulating the wattage to maintain the right temperature draws a bit more power by the chip than straight up wattage delivery.

Second thought, maybe it's not the calculations but the physical means of completing the circuit in order to regulate the wattage

Both seem like they would be trivial though so I'm guessing it's something else

Or it might be a trick question because I seem to recall hearing tc actually prolongs battery life

Welcome to the ECF family! Can you help me build a box mod for this?

Hi, glad you joined us! It's a great place with some fine folks and a ton of info.

Though I admit I'm a little disappointed that you don't actually know the answer to everything, I was hoping you'd be able to tell me how to keep my wife happy with all the money I'm spending on vape gear lately. :)

Wasn't a trick question. Just "abiding by your rules" you set to the thread lol.

Genuinely curious, as my first tc mod/tank seems to eat battery life.
Ah ok haha, I took it as a quiz question. I found this explanation which seems like the most plausible:

Driving a coil that's basically a short circuit is very difficult from an efficiency standpoint.

No matter how you slice it, when your load impedance is approaching the parasitic resistances in your supply circuit, you are going to lose more energy to power being dissipated somewhere other than the load.

As someone with an electronics background, when I heard these things were running such low ohms, I immediately though "well that's got to be terribly inefficient and hard on the circuitry".

We will likely see a lot of reports of these mods burning out in the near future, as these highly stressed components start failing.

Welcome to ECF. I believed most of what people were saying about coil differences...but had never tried different coils. Just starting to make fancier coils now and had not yet built a clapton, so I bought a UD Ferris Wheel for $20, which had a clapton. The vapor production is unreal. Flavor is off just a bit after 1st and 2nd draw, but I'm buying a Twisted Messes Squared which has a deeper well, so it will be great.
