Hello friends!
I'd like to introduce myself since I am new here. My name is Aldo and I am a heavy smoker of tobacco cigarettes. I had been smoking for 13 years, including 5 years of failed attempts to quit. Damn, I feel like I am at stop smoking sessions again. :))))
I thought now I will try smth different, so I joined as many groups as possible on social networks, hopping to find some efficient advises and support. There I came across some interesting topics about vaping which aroused my curiosity. Especially the fact that using E-cigarettes could help to get rid of this unhealthy addiction. Since I have a vague idea how this could be done exactly I will highly appreciate some suggestions, tips, stories from your own experience.

Also, I noticed from the discussions that Governments want to ban e-cigs and I can't understand why? Is vaping really so dangerous, that USA & UK are trying to introduce strict regulations? What are your own predictions regarding this issue?

Thank you very much in advance and I look forward to learning more from you guys!

Hi Aldo,
Welcome to ECF!

I am not expert as I have only started vaping 1 month ago, but I have been off of cigarettes for over 3 weeks. I do not have any predictions for Regulations, but I have shared my story in my quitting cigarettes thread: New Vaper - trying to quit smoking

Please take a look and let me know if you have any other questions.

Welcome Aldo,

first and foremost, vaping is better for your health than the old tobacco cigs.
Whether it is harmful.. maybe, but again not so much compared to tobacco.

The only really dangerous side effect is the tax revenue the governments are missing out of when smokers turn to vaping.
That leaves them with a big hole in their budget, money they have already spent.

Good luck!

Not so much the Brits. Their police are allowed to vape and the NHS is looking to use vaping as a smoking cessation tool. Their is just turbulence there.

Here in the States, we have a lot big business and politics going on. I don't think vaping is bad, in comparison to smoking, at all. I know what my doctor is telling me about my lab tests and x-rays and my dentist has distinctly noticed healthier gums.

The sub-forums here are extensive. A good one is to start here: E-Cigarette Success Stories

By all means, move forward with your switch to vaping. It cured my nearly 60 year addiction and it can cure yours too. I personally believe that by hook or crook, we'll b able to get what we need to continue. I have learned to mix and rebuild. I have also slowly been stocking up with supplies. And by the way, Welcome Home to the ECF Family!

Richu75, if I'm not wrong, it's all about money. In fact, how long this struggle lasts, and what exactly they want to ban?

Hi and welcome to the board. I can only say vaping worked for me to get off tobacco. You say you are a "heavy smoker." In this case I'd start with some 18 or 24 mg e-liquid to help stave off the nicotine cravings. The gear I recommend for new starters is an iStick 30 or an iStick 40TC with a Kanger Subtank. Another option is a Kanger Subox kit, which comes bundled with the same Subtank I recommended above. It's a few dollars more because you have to buy batteries and a charger, unlike the iStick. Both are versatile enough to let you experiment with how vaping works and see if it can help you. They are also both powerful enough so you might be able to stick with them for a while without needing an upgrade. I have been vaping for years and I very rarely get up over 40 watts myself, and I am often under 30. Regarding the regulations-- in the US-- it's a power grab in the name of nanny-statism rather than anything real. I confidently predict they will be successful in enacting regulations, and these are likely to be draconian. I further confidently predict Americans will, as usual, entirely ignore the nanny-staters and do as they please anyway, resorting to building their own and the black market. I DIY my juice and build my own coils anyway, and have made preparations, myself: I have a boatload of nicotine juice in the freezer, and a fair number of mods-- mainly mechanical-- and atomizers. Everything else I need-- PG, VG, Flavors, Wire, Rayon and so on, will not be regulated as they have other uses.

5 years? I was quitting for about 15... Sometimes even for a few months. I may qualify as a semi-professional quitter.

Vaping definitely helped me.
I was in my quitting stage (have not smoked for about 10 days) and was ready to buy cigarettes again, when I saw at my grocery store a display with cigarlikes (smallest and least efficient vaping device), spent $45 and got a set with 10 ml of juice. After a week I was not sure if I want continue to vape, but found ECF, leared that other, better devices do exist, and ordered one. Since I bought the cigarlike I never bought cigarettes again. For more than 1.5 year I am not a smoker. I think 10 days of not smoking before starting to vape were very helpful.

Turbulence. Yes.

Also, the threat of a May 2016 wipeout.

We don't know what the laws will bring, but refillable e-cig hardware could be gone and liquid will be very strictly controlled.

@KrausAldo - you should definitely try vaping. Even if the future is bleak.

My prediction is that all that will remain in Europe are tobacco company products that barely work. Placebo products for the millions.
People will return to smoking.
In 3-5 years, the EU governments will ask "why did we regulate this so harshly?" and go back to the drawing board.

This is the problem when you legislate before knowing the facts and rely on the votes of politicians who have a view of the world based on chit-chat, social media, bad science and tobacco company lobbying. They also put their careers before people's health.
Their job and pension is more important than good laws.

Thanks. I definitely will. I'm not so informed as u guys are still in my opinion, the main function of government is to listen to the electorate and subsequently meet their needs but not lobbing the interests of Big tobacco companies.

My best guess is they don't want to ban vaping. They just want to tax the hell out of it.

Newbie Introduction

Please understand I am posting this as a general reference for you, any
new vapers. I am not saying do not ask questions, or for opinions.I
am saying, take a little time in exploring for yourself a wealth of
information already on hand freely. Then, you may want to explore a few
online vendors. You may also prefer checking out your local brick and
mortar based shops. Remember, we the consumers need to support small
businesses offering vape gear, juice. If we do not support them, vaping
goes away for all of us.

[ Vaping slang and acronyms ] Get familiar with some terminology.

[ The Three Main Types of Ecig ] Learn about various kinds of e-cigs.

[ FAQs: Frequently Asked Questions About Electronic Cigarettes ] See what others have asked and learned.

[ A tip for newbs seeking tobacco / cigarette flavor... ] Understand about tobacco flavored ejuice.

[ The ECF Library ] Visit the ECF library for a lot more information.

[ ECF Forum Suppliers ] Window shop, or buy from online or local vendors.

[ E-cigarette research, studies and papers - 2015 ] Check out tomes of medical, health, vaping research.

I hope this post serves as a helpful guide. That is the intention in the
writing of it. There is no malice or judgment involved in this guide. We
all were new to vaping at one time. If you come to vaping from smoking
cigarettes, hang in there. It is rewarding to quit smoking those nasty
weed rolls. The harm reduction factor alone to many of us is priceless.
Please enjoy your vaping journey. :)

Thank you, Guys! All this information is really very helpful for me! That's the point, I initiated this discussion here since I want to hear the opinions of real people, who are vaping for a long time. It's a myriad of information so I assumed only experts could make it more clear to me.
Also, while searching for new data on this topic I came across some interesting communities: "Not Blowing Smoke", " We Saved Vaping", "Save Vaping: Yes We Can" and it aroused my curiosity not only because it's a healthy alternative but since it's a relatively young and perspective industry too. If you can throw me some youtube links with reviews on this subject, that would be great! :)
