I had a really hard day today. I smoked 3 cigarettes. If I hadn't had my pv, the number of cigs would have probably been at about 20 something. Today was day 9 of vaping and it was the worst so far as craving a smoke. I want to go out to the garage and light one up right now. I know how bad they are for me and vaping really helps. My skin color is already improved, I am not hacking up nasty globs every morning, my tongue is nice and pink, but the demon is calling loud and clear....and STRONG

I had the same problem at first and I think the best piece of advice I found on this forum was that if you really need one then just have one, no need to beat yourself up about it just like anything else it's gonna take a little time and we all have our days in the beginning that we fall off the wagon, just dust off and tomorrow is a new day

I let myself smoke as much as i wanted when i first started vaping a month ago or so. Was usually 15-20 cigs a day, and after i started vaping it was around 3 a day. Then 1 a day. Then i just stopped wanting them altogether. Be patient, don't beat yourself up. You're doing great and you're making great lifestyle improvements. These things take patience and understanding. You know that you're improving and that cigs are a much worse alternative to vaping. That alone is power. More power to you.

Hi. Everyone is different regarding what nic levels they need. I was a 2 PAD smoker and had to start at 24 mg. But within the first week I knew that wasn't enough and for bad craving fits I ordered some 30 mg. That worked - for me. You may need some higher nic stuff to get you though the bad craving fits early on.

The other thing to consider is you just might not be vaping enough. Vaping isn't the auto-pilot you were used to with smoking. You lit up... and smoked it until it was spent. In it's own way vaping takes more effort. Every time you want a hit you have to pick the thing up and push a button. There's no lit cigarette in front of you, pushing you on to do something with it. A lot of new vapers have to work on pacing and vaping frequently enough when switching.

I had that same issue my first go round with vaping, I had it in my head that soon as I picked this thing up it was the end all to analogs I forced through it for about 2weeks and was actually worse off than I started b/c with vaping came a gut busting cough that I later learned to be a sensitivity to pg and I just gave up until a friend started asking about it and I decided to look into it some more and found this forum where I learned ALOT so here I am again 1 month in and happy as I ever was with a marb light and can't stand the smell or taste now believe me I tried one the other day took 1 drag and gave it back but for about a week I alternated between both vape and analog till I just didn't want them anymore

In my experience... have one. That will stop your mind dwelling on it. Its sure not nicotine you're craving so its the obsession you're fighting. I think you're rushing things. It will happen naturally... one day you'll remember that you've only had 5 today, then only 4 today and so on until you've had none. But fighting it will only keep you dwelling on them. That's what happened with me. By the end-stage, as I call it, I smoked one a day in four or five puffs a few times a day. That's all I wanted... just enough to get my mind off them.

Don't feel bad! You're on the road to recovery. Don't count the cigs you occasionally smoke; count those you didn't smoke because you vaped.

If you feel a craving creeping up, try vaping first for 5 or 10 minutes. That should take care of the craving. If it doesn't, have a cig. It's not the end of the world. Quitting smoking is not a sprint; it's a marathon.

Good luck and welcome to ECF!

When I have given in to the craving, I find myself wanting to put it out about halfway through. Then the old habits kick in and I find myself thinking that I don't want to "waste" this cig and I finish it. Then I beat myself up over it. I think that a few puffs here and there might make it easier for me.
Night time is the worst. My husband works 2nd shift and I am on his sleep schedule. I think I need to just go to bed when it gets to be too bad.

lil red dot.
like everyone has said, dont beat urself up about it.. u'r doing really great.. i've been vaping for almost a full week&i still light up on average 3times a day.. while it aint what i had in mind, i'm happy as i've cut down on lighting up(i do about 8-10analogs a day previously, not alot, compared to many) &i'm happy i've kept my 1st milestone of not buying analogs at all for e past week.

rushing into it shows u'r determined to kick analogs, which is gd but it wont help psychologically..

i'd say, set some milestones/goals to progressive cut down to no analogs.. &reward ur self for meeting ur milestones&sticking to them!

dont give up, mate!

just my newbie opinion :)

You can do that - that going to bed thing. I'm a little more concerned about other things to do if you are having bad craving fits. I had two bad fits each day when quitting. First thing in the morning and late evening. Same as you - those last couple hours before bed time. That's when I switched up to the 30 mg stuff and it really helped. And first thing in the morning - I didn't even think about it - just grabbed the 30 mg stuff and started the first couple hours of the day with it. The rest of the time between 24 mg was fine.

And do keep in mind that issue about vaping enough. A common newbie misconception is they expect an e-cig to "hit" like a cigarette and are looking for that instant cigarette buzz you got when smoking. With e-cigs... that ain't gonna happen. Consistent vaping is key, especially early on when switching.

I hear that this really bugs you. And it sounds like you can work with that in a good way. But please try something new to get you through this. Vape more, or try a higher nic level and see if it helps. Sure, my first two weeks were a pretty rough, brain fuzzed, quit smoking withdrawal mess. But this was still the easiest - and only successful - quit smoking attempt for me. The beauty of e-cigs is the flexibility. Some people get bowled over by 24 mg. For other people - like me - I needed more than that to get through early cravings. Some people find just changing flavors is enough of a distraction to take their mind off a craving fit. You adapt this system to what your individual needs and likes are. Last time I looked at the nic-o-gum or patch instructions... yeah, they don't have that.

You will sort this out. Best wishes.

The key for me in the beginning was flavors. I bought a tobacco flavor and a couple of really nice coffee and fruit flavors. As time went on the coffee and fruit flavors tasted better and better, and the tobacco started to taste like I was licking the underside of a truckstop toilet seat. Find a flavor that you love, and hopefully soon that cig won't seem so appealing. All my flavors come from Mountain Oak Vapors, can't say enough about their juice quality.
