That is exactly what it's all about. No two tastes are the same but the recipes here get you in the very close ball park and will allow you to start your own adventure. Since my last post I've changed my recipe 5 times and must admit that there are times that I get lost and can no longer make a sound judgement as to whether I like it or if it's dead on or if it's closer or if it just plain stinks. In fact sometimes I will just completely go off the rails and add a drop here a drop there and not even keep track of what I'm doing. I may not be able to reproduce it if I come up with something great but that's what the adventure is all about.

I appreciate all the effort you've put into this Danny.....kudos to you.
I don't need an exact replicant....but I do want that??????don't know what it is. But I haven't played with your latest recipe yet.
Your my hero.....act accordingly:D

Speaking of TPA Cocoa...

Has anybody gotten close to a Halo Belgian Cocoa clone? My wife loves it and I'd like to quit spending $20 on it every month.

I recall a forum member on thread, can't remember which one exactly, mentioning that TFA's Chocolate flavor was exactly what's in Halo Belgian Cocoa, his ADV. It was posted sometime in the last 3 weeks.

I finally got the MTB yesterday and did a little magic to the sample so now the waiting begins again...we will see ;)

hot water steep for 3 cycles or UC it for an hour and it should be vapable. If your using what you already made and adding the mtb just shake really good and try it. If it's a bit strong wait 24 - 48 hours and it will mellow.

Not sure if I'm the guy you're looking for but I mentioned that FlavourArt's Chocolate was definitely one of the key ingredients in Belgian Cocoa. I've mixed FA's chocolate with TFA's Double Chocolate (dark) at a 1:2 ratio and it tastes pretty good, but not quite like Belgian Cocoa. I believe I'm missing another chocolate flavor or two (perhaps a slight vanilla, like .5%) and some of the 'notes' such as Tetramethylpyrazine etc.

Which brand ultrasonic do you use? Mine is a cheapy and has a three minute max cycle. I need another.

I got a Chocolate sample pack when I ordered all of those others recently - and the Cocoa essence ordered previously - I do have Belgian Cocoa available to me to make comparisons. Hopefully after the weekend I can play "Mad Scientist" a little more and come up with something for you Face!!! Will let you know!

Same boat here - if I am going do this right I may need to go Amazon shopping ;)! (Like I need an excuse to shop -)

I got mine from Amazon. Unfortuneately, if you want a good one, you'll have to spend upwards of $80. This is the one I bought. It does the trick but it's not great and is already on its last legs after only 4 months.

This model looks to be the favorite according to reviews. It has an 8 minute timer and a programmable heater.

Glad you like the Prime clone. I'm curious to hear how the addition of MTB is. From what I understand, Danny is suggesting to use MTB instead of TMP. That's interesting, as I thought TMP smelled exactly like most of Halo's musty tobaccos. I'll keep checking on the thread, but the recipe I ended up with seems to satisfy Prime fans, which is a win for DIYers.

Take a look at what I recommended. It's the same price and instead of an 8 minute timer it has a 30 minute timer as well as heat and has huge capacity.

danny - wanted to let you know something I discovered today - those little pipettes that you get from TPA - well I used one with Distilled water and attempted to come up with some type of measurement for the tiny droplets. I had a glass dropper that had measurements on it for .25, .50, .75 and 1ml. So I used the tiny pipette and counted (I did this numerous times).

It looks like 12 droplets from the tiny pipette is equal to .25ml. It's really close. So it would be pretty safe to assume that 1 droplet is equal to .02ml - just thought I would share ;)

I just came up with a new recipe this weekend for prime. This seems to be the closest yet.

Base is 75/25 PG/VG 18mg nic

7% hangsen highway
3% Hangsen cocoa
1% Methylbutyraldehyde (get it here) Perfumers Apprentice - Methylbutyraldehyde 1% (PG)
2% AP (Get it here) Perfumers Apprentice - Acetyl Pyrazine 5% (PG)

Based on my 5ml test sample.

After my previous attempt I found the methylbutyraldehyde kept fading and it seems 1% or .05 ml is good after steeping and eliminated the fade problem and added the correct mossyness/fruity/musty top note. The hangsen cocoa was only just detectable at 3% or .15ml and seemed to add the right chocolate note. The hangsen highway at 7% or .35ml is nutter and a closer tobacco taste then the T5 but still needed more nuttyness so that's why I bumped up the AP to 2% or .1ml.

It's still not exact but closer.

I honestly think Tribeca is the easiest of all of these to clone

TPA RY4 Double
Acetyl Pyrazine

some where around 8-10% of the RY4 and 1 drop/5ml of the AP is about right. In fact the last batch of of this I made was *better* than Tribeca. Same thing, just more rich.

So glad I found this! Many thanks for this recipe. Easy and close enough to Tribeca to the point where I don't have to spend $20 for 30ml of it anymore. You do need to let it steep for a week. I left the cap off for a day after mixing and a week later, its VERY close to tribeca... better IMO.
