Love to hear your thoughts on it!

The Tribeca clone I found to have a pepper flavor. I omitted the the FA Virginia and I think it's close enough. I have bought my last bottle from Halo.

I tried the simple prime 15 recipe and I'm still not so sure. The flavor and smell are just not there for me. I'm still letting it steep and will report back later if it changes.

Pepper Flavor! It is my elusive nemesis! The Torque recipes I have found so far are nothing like Torque. It's one of my ADV's and after starting DIY, it's the ONLY liquid I still purchase from Halo.

I've came closer than other recipes using very slight amounts of Koolada (makes NO sense) and very slight amounts of a certain citrus flavor.
What is missing is the very distinctive and strong "pepper" flavor in the Torque.
I am NOT getting that note with FA Virginia, so IDK what's up with that.

If someone can figure out a close enough replacement to Torque, you will be saving me about $80 a month. That $80 would likely make me 4 months of a clone!!

tl;dr = Where the heck is the STRONG pepper flavor in Torque coming from?

Thanks in advance guys!

John

If you get a "peppery" type flavor, it's due to the Nic used, there is no pepper flavor used in torque or tribecca and that "peppery" thing goes away after a long enough steep.

If you like that "peppery" thing (I hate it personally), change the type, brand or strength of your nic.

Oh, I completely understand the peppery flavor of nic by itself, I vape unflavored occasionally and the nic plays a huge part in that.
"Peppery" might have been the wrong word to use, sorry.
Even buying Torque56 at Halo's lowest nic level, the "peppery" taste is not subdued at all.
Spicy might be a better word.
Regardless, just can't figure it out!

I'm using fresh MFS nic, and by itself has very little of that classic peppery flavor for me.

PS: it is not a black pepper flavor I taste in the Torque, the thought of putting a black pepper flavor in a liquid was more less a joke...

Thanks for the response, I will continue this brain-teaser. If anyone wants to chime in, it's much appreciated!

Have a great day all,

John

I know what your talking about it's more of a mosey woodsy flavor. Can't quite put my finger on it.

Yes, it has those elements, but the overwhelming element in the exhale is the "tingly" sensation that is in NO way attributed to a mint/menthol component,
more of a "citrus" note actually.... Danny, I know you are not working on Torque too much. I am patient, for when you DO work on it, I have faith that
you can crack this code :)

Man I wish I could get this Torque down...
I even tried Para Cymene, and it actually added torquish notes, but also added overwhelming notes that are not in Torque.
I tried many times with different amounts, but cannot get a balance with Para Cymene that comes close to Torque.
I guess it wasn't Para Cymene

I'm still trying.
It's annoying when you have an ADV that you can't get close to!

PS: I didn't mean to kill the conversation by putting any pressure on you Danny :p

Have a very happy holidays all....

Hey guys, I hate to see this thread die because I am really after a Torque brew as well. Unfortunately, my taste buds are not as sophisticated as some of yours and I would just be taking random stabs at compiling a clone. My chances of success are about as equal as winning the lottery I fear :(

Any updates? Just so you know, I am relentlessly crawling the Internets looking for a clone recipe. If I find anything, I will link it here.

On another note, I should be receiving the last of my supplies any day now to create my first-ever batch of e-juice. I am making up a batch of the Prime 15 based on Danny's recipe.

It was clarified pretty early on that Totally Wicked (TW) produced the concentrates for Halo. They then took these concentrates off the shelf and now sell them only to Halo and not to the public. I wouldn't try to clone Halo's tobaccos anymore, given this information. Instead, you could probably just mix your own unique tobaccos that you enjoy as much/more than Halos.

Can't understand why you would say that. Are you a halo salesman? Just because TW no longer sells the patriat flavorings doesn't mean someone should stop trying to reproduce something they love.

lol Danny you know I don't represent anybody/company. I'm just saying that if someone is trying to get an exact replicate of a Halo tobacco, it's probably not going to happen. I also suggested though that you can and should mix tobaccos that you like more than Halo, as I don't think any vendor can make something that we DIYers can't top.

Danny, thanks so much for the reply. Also, thanks for your blogs, reading through them helped me to decide to try mixing on my own.

One question, what does "EM" stand for?

Have you happened to have tried the apple (granny smith tart) from AP? It mentions cinnamon notes but I am not so sure if that will add enough sweetness.

I fully agree with the theme here "don't be a copy cat, create something better".

While I agree with that, it is arguable that in being a noobie, it is easier to replicate initially (I just replicated Danny's recipe afterall).

And see, I am already making progress because I want to deviate and add an apple flavor!

EM = ethyl maltol

:) Google!

My point is that the ingredients just aren't there. Its like if I made a recipe with 10% TFA Pear, 5% TFA Sweet Raspberry, and 5% TFA Sweet Cream and then asked TFA to stop selling these flavors in order to remain exclusive.

Its possible that other flavor vendors buy from the same base manufacturer and create flavor concentrates very close to TFAs, and its also possible to create something similar with different flavors altogether. But getting the exact version of Halo's recipe isn't likely since the flavors have been pulled from the shelves. That was my only point.

This isn't to be pessimistic, its to be realistic. I still whole heartedly believe that we DIYers can make much better vapes than Halo or any other vendor. On top of that, I do believe you can create something very close in profile to any vendors juice, so as to clone it for your own liking.

Where's the fun in not trying. I worked on prime for such a long time and for me I came up with a clone that was so close it started a whole wave of prime cloners. Then I went further and turned it into something even better as far as my taste goes. It's still my #1 go to ADV. If I never attempted it I would have spent the rest of my life as a miserable old man:)

This is very true but it's not to say that using halo as a baseline you can't come up with something good and original. You will never exactly clone halo so they should get that out of there head. But some fantastic never before made new mixes have come from cloning attempts. I say it all the time that you will never exactly duplicate halo juices so be satisfied you come up with something new and different.
