Halo juice tastes like nothing - Is it me or is it my gear?

Hi guys,

The more I read through these forums about all these magical juice flavours, the more I feel like I'm missing something, or I'm doing something wrong.

I've been happily vaping for a few months now on a couple of Kanger protank 2 minis which I use with my ego batteries. I purchased some Tribecca and Prime 15 after I had read such glowing reviews about these two with their nutty undertones etc. and the more I read about other experiences with these the more I feel like I'm missing out because to me they taste like nothing, and have tasted like nothing since the beginning. After cleaning my protanks and changing replacement coils, it doesn't seem to make a difference.

The question is am I doing something incorrectly? Or have cigarettes fried my taste buds? Has anyone else experienced this?

Some e-juices need more voltage to really shine than your eGo sticks are likely to be able to provide. If you are going to start experimenting with different juices and atty I would strongly suggest at least a nice eGo-c twist battery, which will allow you to change voltage to dial in the flavor. I found a good one on eBay in 650mah for $14 shipped.

For a few more dollars you may want to consider either the Innokin v3, which is a stick-style battery, or an MVP, which is what they call a 'box' mod. The benefit of the MVP2.0 is the very long battery life and voltage/wattage adjustability. You can get these from 101vape for $42 to your door.

Interesting! Thanks for the suggestions Miata GT! I was starting to think it might be time to shop around for something better!

Great suggestion from Miata above.
I just wanted to add that it could also be they need a bit of steep time. I used to vape Tribeca a lot back in the day and I found it would continue to develop flavors for a few weeks after I bought it. Just put it away for a week or two in a cool place (although saying that, the shipping to Oz should have steeped it somewhat on the way over) - but it can't hurt to put it up for a little while and see if it develops.

It could also be that you are experiencing a little taste-bud burnout. I think it's something that never really goes away completely (others call it vapors-tongue) but you can help by drinking lots of water when vaping. Some also suggest eating something spicy, or particularly sour may help re-ignite your taste buds. Of course it could be neither of these things

InTheShade - haha yes from memory I think they took a few weeks to arrive! I've had them sitting around for a few months now so I'm not sure that steeping has made a difference. Taste-bud burn out may very well be the case - will definitely try and see if something spicy might work! Thanks for the pointers!! :) :)

stevegmu - that's interesting, thanks! I'm still very much a newb so I think I'll need to broaden my horizons and go shopping for some new stuff!

I've just received a Five Pawns sampler pack so hoping I might have a tastier experience ... fingers crossed.

I vape Halo's Tribeca everyday, all day, on a Halo G6 battery and cartomizer along with other juice flavors in other devices. Never had a problem with taste, it is my favorite juice.

Some people experience the loss of taste when starting to vape, after a few weeks or months. It is called Vapors Mouth or Tongue.

Try some other flavors for a while.

I don't think it has anything to do with the battery you are using or the voltage that battery is putting out. It is just one of those things that happen to certain people at times.

I do know when I used ProTank2s, flavor was muted compared to the Triton tanks and especially carto tanks...[/QUOTE]

I have a PT 2 mini also, for me flavor isn't bad. Just bought an atomizer to test juices.. Great taste! Anyway, so a carto tank w/ all the layers of poly fill really has better flavor then the PT mini? Not saying your wrong, just curious :)

Good comments above concerning vaper's tongue (damaged tastebuds/flavor burnout). I've been vaping for 2 years and currently have been experiencing a little bit of flavor burn-out myself. Most of my flavors are muted, despite using top of the line juice attachments. I know this is temporary but in the meantime I'm using flavorless e-liquid (Pg/Vg with nicotine) - no need to be wasting good juice when I can't taste it.

I've heard there is an over-the-counter product called Biotene which can speed up the recovery of vaper's tongue. Not tried it yet, but might be worth a shot.

The better your gear, the better your flavors should taste. Clearomizers are recommended for beginner vapers because they are so easy to fill and change coil heads, but they often mute flavors and can be incononsistant leading to either flooding or dry/burnt hits.

A step up from clearomizers IMHO are cartotanks. These take just a little more work setting up and have a slight learning curve, but you get much better flavor and consistancy.

Rebuildable atomizers are something you will probably want to look into in the future for even more flavor, vapor, and consistancy. You'll learn to wrap your own wire coils and make your own wicks, just the way YOU like them and not have to depend upon factory made stuff with can't compare to what you can make. Look into the Kayfun style RBA tanks.
