Hi! I got some Hangsen RY4 and I'm using about 20%. I posted a simple recipe and people were shocked at the high %. I was wondering, from someone who uses it regularly, what's normal? I dropped it to 15% and thought it was good, but then my coil acclimated and it's weak now. I'm thinking I may have gotten a weak batch.

What's your favorite RY4 if you don't mind me asking?

The standard RY4 type flavor is pretty sweet. If that's what you're looking for then a nice and easy recipe is mixing a simple HS tobacco (Tab, Highway, VA, etc) with TFA RY4D. My favorite was Tab @ 5% and RY4D @ 3-4%. Add in some AP if you want to add the nutty flavor. But Highway goes really well too.

A little more complicated way to go is mixing some HS vanilla (or your favorite vanilla) and TFA caramel candy with a basic tobacco flavor. I've done things like that with good success when I was into sweeter vapes.

I have the same issue with HS RY4. Tried it at my default "HS tobacco" 4% and it was nothing. At 10% I get the sweet, but very little tobacco and really nothing definable as RY4. I have tried this:
HS RY4 10%
HS Arabic 2%
TFA Caramel Original 4%
...but it's not right. I mean, it's decent, but it's not RY4. It's also overflavored (the Arabic), but I didn't like it enough to fool around with it past that initial test.

It's been over a year since I had pre-mixed HS RY4, but I remember it as a totally different animal. That RY4 was very rich, like carmalized sweet rum tobacco. I also recall it being much darker in color than what I have now. The HS extract I have now is not the RY4 I remember. Wish I had some to compare.

I'm having no issue with the flavor. I'm putting a small amount (2 drops/ml) of Capella Sweet Cream and I love it immensely! My only issue is that I've used half a 50ml bottle in a week! Lolol

Dave, I think it's all up to what YOU like and your taste buds. That's the beauty of DIY.

The below is according to ELR, and these are the values for all the recipes listed on their site that uses Hangsen's RY4. So, in the grand scheme of things, I notice a 40%

    Percentages in recipes
Average mixing quantity: 8.4% (Median: 8%)
    Minimum used quantity: 1%
    Maximum used quantity: 40%

    Single flavor recommendations: 3
    Average quantity: 10.3% (Median: 12.0%)
    Minimum used quantity: 9.0%
    Maximum used quantity: 12.0%

Lol! 40%! Guess I'm not doing as badly as I thought! I'm gonna try FA for my next order. I picked Hangsen my first time around because I noticed a few people saying it was even great without a steep. I knew I wouldn't be patient but I've got plenty to vape on while I wait this time. The FA says to test at 1%. Huge difference! I bet that's why the Hangsen doesn't need as much steep. Mixes in easier because it takes so much more. Thanks for the input @big_vape.
