Not surprised. Both equipment and length of time without smoking make a difference in your tastes. The most important thing is staying off the cigarettes. Many choose to minimize use of flavors so you may want to experiment with lower percentages over time. Some even report using HG tobaccos as low as 4%. One counter intuitive finding is that some flavors actually diminish in taste when used at high percentages -- though may not be your case. But enjoy!

I've been vaping for over two years. I must love the kick in the .... tobacco flavors. Because that is really all I vape beside my wife's Texas Watermelon which I might use once in a while. Been trying to find a recipe for it, but no luck so far. It's made by vermillion. Still working on some RY4 and Turkish Blend. They are at 10% and all I taste is VG, PG and some nicotine. Very little taste unless I use a dripper. Then taste comes through. There is a world of difference from a dripper and my Aerotank on my VTR when it comes to flavor. I think it might have to do with my coils and wattage. My current coil is 2.9 ohms and I'm vaping at 7 watts. I have some 28ga kanthal arriving and will try a micro coil.

I don't know Gary,
I just sampled my two batches, (Hangsen Turkish Blend and RY4) and they taste like crap. So lets recap....
These were all sampled after 4 hours crockpot steep:
5%, some taste, very bland - dripped pretty good
7% same taste, still ugh - No drip
10% tasting bad - No drip
12% tastes bad - No drip
15% still tastes like crap - No drip
Sampled with:
Single coil Aerotank with 2.5ohm and a VTR at 8 watts
Single coil Aerotank with 1.7 ohm and VTR at 12 watts
Do I need to go the other way and try another batch say at 2%?

  :(

I have not used the Turkish Blend so I can't comment on it. As for as HS in general I think you definitely are overshooting at the 10-15% level. I would suggest working in the 5-8% area till you dial it in.
A couple of thoughts, have you checked your nic to see if it smells and taste good? Also are you shaking your flavoring bottles well before you draw your flavors out?

Nicotine is okay. I mixed two new 10ml batches of Turkish Blend and RY4 but at 2.5%. SUCCESS!!! Tasted pretty good freshly made in my Aerotank. So now into the crockpot for 4 hrs to bring the flavors out. Seems I was going in the wrong direction on concentration. First batch at 5% tasted bad, (duh). I was already beyond the limits.
I will post final thoughts tomorrow.

Well, its back to the drawing board. Tried the 1% and 2% batches and they all lack flavor adter a couple day's sitting after a 4 hr. crockpot steep.. Sooooo,
I'll make another sample at 5%, (recommended on label) and just let it sit. I'll buy some RTY to hold me over. I did order some EM, (haven't arrived yet).
Could my 50/50 mix of VG/PG have anything to do with it?

I heard that with Hangsen Tobacco use 1 drop per ml of base which is appx. 3% that is if your bottles are original from hangsen and have not been re-bottled with larger drip tips. If the Turkish seems too weak you could add some Tobacco absolute at 1%

I made another 30ml batch of Turkish Blended at 5%, (again) its it's not bad. So I will start increasing 0.5% increments until I hit the "sweet" spot, (about 3 drops per). I tried a bit of TA and it tasted too "smoky". Almost like liquid smoke you use for barbequing. But no crockpot steeping. I feel my previous batches didn't flavor well with this method.

If you're referring to those tiny needle nose bottles, the drop count is 100 drops per ml - or 1% per drop per ml. Turkish needs at least two weeks of steeping. I personally haven't had much luck with the Crockpot. I mix at 4% for a medium flavor.

Now at 5.5%. I'm letting it sit overnight giving it a shake whenever I pass by. Taste is improving but not there yet. Will mix a 30ml batch of Desert Ship tonight. Same beginning concentration of 5%. I think one thing that is making a difference is that I switched to glass dropper bottles. I have a feeling that crockpotting plastic wasn't a good idea. Those batches were horrible. I had to toss them.

No, do not crockpot in plastic...

And realized I misspoke. I mix most HG tobaccos at 8%, however, Desert Ship I keep mixed at 6%.

Odd fact but reality that overflavoring can/wil actually reduce taste. Occasionally overflavoring can also affect your ability to taste that flavor for several days e.g. 2-4 days. And note that equipment (particularly wicking) can make a big difference on taste. Glad you're finding a level that you enjoy. Cheers!

LoveVanilla,
It's still a work in progress. I've converted my Kanger Aerotank over to 1.8 ohm single coils with cotton wicks. It tastes great with other flavors, (tobacco also) and at 10 watts, I get great vapor, (using an ITaste VTR VV/VW). My current mix is 05/50 VG/PG. I have a Russian 91% and a Vapor Shark rDNA on my wish list.
I will continue to taste test tomorrow and after the Desert Ship batch I'll start on a RY4 batch. These are all Hangsen flavors. My EM came in today. I might add a smidgen to a 4ml Turkish Blended just see how it works.
