Hi All,
I've started my vape adventures with this:
Photon Express Kit

I'm totally boggled by a lot of the jargon on here. But I'm gathering that what I have is a tank or clearomizer of some type. I bought it at a local kiosk for €40.00.

I'm 3 days in and very much interested in the whole thing. Just wondering what benefit there is to using something else. This is working really well for me, and while i'm waiting for a delivery of some other juices to try out. Is there something i'm missing as regards this variable voltage stuff or higher power output? Is there a link to some FAQ's about the advanced stuff?
I've read all the usual introductory stuff. You guys seem to be using a lot of different hardware and some are even modifying it?
Confused :)

I'm new myself, and have a set up that looks pretty similar to what you have. My opinion is - if it works, don't fix it. I've been using mine for about a week, and I haven't wanted to smoke a real cigarette since I started.

I do think you probably should have a back up, another battery and cartomizer. The set I bought locally had 2 of each, so one can be charging and one can be used.

Now, I'm not a guy, but a grandmother, and pretty boring. All I want is something that works, isn't too pricey, tastes pretty good, and keeps me from smoking cigarettes. I know the guys especially on this board love to tinker with their gear, and keep buying different kinds of stuff. That's fine for those who want to do that. I'm the sort that wants to keep it simple.

Welcome to the forum. There is a lot of information here, and you are right - lots of jargon. I learn more the more I read.

Welcome Daithi!! Yes what you have is a clearomizer, and if it is working for you, then just keep at it. I feel that there is a huge difference and advantage with variable voltage(VV) because it allows you to fine tune the heat of your vape and bring out slightly different flavors. I know whenever I tried someone else's fixed voltage battery I would get no Throat Hit(TH), but I could put the same clearomizer back onto my VV battery and achieve the TH that I needed, or if I wanted I could throw it down to 3.7volts and get a vape just like their battery.

Just keep working your way around the forum and soon enough you'll be up on the jargon and helping out others!!

You have a pretty common starter set up (a wee bit expensive to what I am use to here but it will work fine)

most people with lots of equipment are hobbyists chasing the mythical unicorn vape (you know, the perfect vape that will bring you to your knees and tears (of joy) to your eyes - some people find it right away and some people may never

the advantage to variable voltage is that you can tailor your voltage to your eliquid (some will taste better at a higher or lower voltage - every eliquid and every person is different)

all of the other equipment will depend on how much of a hobby you want to turn it into (I have just about (not quite) but just about every different style of vape equipment out there and I DIY my eliquid (mainly due to my cheapness)

shop around for new equipment if you decide to upgrade (the set up you got is normally a $22-$30 dollar setup here in the States)

Thanks Buggainok. It's early days for me too I suppose. My primary motivation is to stay away from cigarettes also, but joining this forum, it's clear that for many, vaping is a lot more than just a means of smoking cessation. Good luck with your journey.

I'm trying to get my head around all this, thanks UncleChimney. I'm not sure why I would want to change the heat of my vape. It feels fine at the temperature its at right now. Throat hit also seems fine, in fact I wouldn't mind it being a bit less. Then again, I have nothing to compare it against and perhaps I don't know what i'm missing. I'm sure as time goes by, I'll end up trying other things. I'm still probably acclimatised to the act of smoking, where I had no control really - I just smoked what was in the packet and some days it tasted better than other days.

Hello and Welcome Daithi. If what you have is working for you then stick to it until you're ready to venture into something more. The variable voltage (vv), variable wattage (vw) pvd's (personal vaping device) allow you to fine tune your flavor, as stated previously. You can find your sweet spot so to speak. It allows you to get more throat hit (TH). The jargon will start to make sense as you start to use some of the products or review them on youtube. I'm a visual learner so I have to see it to understand it more often than not. Glad you joined us here at ECF. Good luck and Happy Vaping!
