I have had several friends that I have started out on a 510 who smoked light cigarettes and they loved it... At first... then one stoped vaping and went back to cigarettes and the other stopped altogether... For a while... I got them both on a 901 and the one guy loves the 0mg/ml juice I make for him and the other loves his 15 mg/ml.. Difference smoother hit more flavor..not quite as warm as a 510 ... But still tons of vapor and a nice smooth TH just my two cents worth.. I use a 510 unless I have just ate then I like my 901 but this could help

I had a neighbor come up here to try my Riva last week. She's smoked 2 packs a day for over 40 years. Now, this chick is really into DIY analogs. She rolls her own using pipe tobacco. Pipe. Tobacco. No filter. Yes, she's an inhaler. Her lungs probably have more asphalt in them than the I-95 Corridor.

She took a drag of my very light, no TH, "Tranquility" juice and just about coughed up her spleen. LOL!

No worries! You're right in line with alot of new vapers who have this same issue. Please let us know how you're getting along!

I remember the first hit of the day after I started vaping clearly. I had vaped heavily the evening I got the PC and happily I took a long, deep draw and OMG it hurt my chest so bad I almost gave it up then and there. I coughed and coughed but I kept vaping, very gently.

I think your reaction is a normal part of transitioning to vaping, but it wouldn't hurt to use VG juices, they are much gentler. Be sure that the VG you are going to use has USP grade on the label.

I doubt you need 100% VG juices. What are your current juices? If you are vaping 100% PG you could try some decent 70pg/30vg juices or some 50/50 (less TH, more vapor).

100% PG lets through the most harshness of nicotine so the most TH and flavor but also the most change for irritating tongue, throat, lungs because nicotine is a skin irritant. I found 30% VG was enough to not let the nicotine irritate me. You still get decent TH from the nicotine and good flavor, a nice amount of vapor.

I agree. I see you've gone and gotten some VG. Make SURE it's USP VG (if it is USP will be on the label). You might lose flavor when you cut it, but you draw will probably be smoother. If you decide to order juice with a PG/VG mix, you may want to consider getting double (or extra) flavor since VG tends to weaken the flavors a bit more than PG does.

I tend to use either 60/40 pg/vg or 70/30...and get double flavor with most everything...especially the "dessert" flavors. And if you ever go to a larger pv and a "tank" system...definitely double the flavor.

Best of luck! I hope the VG helps smooth out your vape!

At first I too had a similar reaction. Sore, raw throat and coughing up nasty crud. It's important to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration. In a short time your symptoms WILL IMPROVE and not be an issue. I have found that some juices affect my throat more than others. I prefer a pg/vg mix over straight pg...personal oppinion though. I really think your body is just adapting itself. Drink plenty of water while you vape and your symptoms should go away in a week or so.
I think it lasted for almost 2 weeks for me. No issues at all anymore, and I vape constantly all day long. Don't give up, you'll be glad...promise! DRINK YOUR WATER!!! It's especially important in the beginning of your transition from analogs.
Vape on!

Read this about the Cilia, your's are probably coming back alive. It's a good thing---really it is!!!
How does Smoking Affect the Cilia?

I agree with this. The hairs in you throat lays down when you smoke. When you quit they stand back up. When I quit the cigs I got a really bad sore throat and it lasted for about 2 weeks. Drink a lot of water and add a little vg juice once in awhile. Don't give up it does get better.

If you have any straight juice, for refilling, you can mix the new juice with VG in a small bottle, makes it simpler than adding after it's already in the cart.

A mouth inhale, where you draw into your mouth first, then remove the PV and finish the breath, drawing it into your lungs, might help. I do it unconsciously now, but it is different from cigs where people almost always do a direct deep draw into the lungs.

Good luck!

I just wanted to add, it could be the flavors you're using. For the first couple days that I got my blueberry liquid from vaporbomb I absolutely loved it. I still love the flavor but I just can't vape it, it makes me cough every time. What flavors are you vaping? I find that the warmer flavors don't bother my throat as much. Been vaping oriental from vaporbomb a lot as it doesn't kill me like the fruit flavors.

Also, have you quit smoking before? I ask because for about three months after quitting smoking the last time I quit I was a mess. Felt like I had pneumonia and everything stung in my throat. Carbonated drinks felt like liquid fire. Allergies acted up bad. Just wanted to mention that it could be related to some of the bodies healing processes.

Lastly, I'm not completely sure how this would work out as I'm newish and haven't tried it but you might be able to try a high resistance atomizer. I'll leave it to the other members to mention if this would work or if the atomizer wouldn't heat up enough at 510 voltage.

btw, how much vg did you add compared to liquid?

Cail-
I am vaping a plum and a Mountain Dew flavored juices.
Yes, I have stopped smoking before, and actually both times, I felt better almost from the start: none of the horror stories that I hear. But that does not mean that this third time is gonna be the same.
The cart that I added to had been sitting around for a day and a half and had dried out a bit, so I was able to get about 2 very large drops into it (dripping from the container the VG came in, not a normal dripper, so the "drips" are much larger).

When I first started vaping I thought I had a sensitivity to PG because it seemed like every juice I tried choked me terribly. I was still using analogs at the same time. When I quit analogs and vaped only the harshness was still there a little, but it seemed like my lungs could handle it better. Now that I smoke a little and vape, if I vape right after smoking I cough from the throat hit, but if I wait a while I'm good. It could just be an adjustment period.

Vapor Renu has hundreds of flavors and are pretty well known for having little to no throat hit. If it wouldn't have been for their chocolate mint I probably would have given up on vaping alltogether.

Good luck!

Legion242, not sure if you are still looking for input on this. I found vaping was harsh for me when I was still smoking that same day. But today, I only had a couple analogs before 6AM, then no analogs after that, and just vaped, and it felt so much better! Also, I have read on here that 100% PG has a more of a throat hit, which I think is what you are talking about, while 100% has more vapor but less throat hit. So I would try VG with starting off the day with no analogs and just vapor.

I hope you get it worked out!

I had the same harsh reactions when I first started, 100% pg fruity liquids and was great at first. Then it started to get real harsh and hurt my throat. I then read that you need to keep hydrated when vaping, so I started to drink more water and it helped, but still did not stop. I then changed to a 70/30 mix or 50/50, depending on my flavor. As long as I keep hydrated, the sore throat and harshness went away. I also don't do the fruity flavors much anymore either.

First, thank you to this amazing forum and all of it's members (especially members who I see have been here for years!) for all of the info.
As I previously stated, last night I was able to get a bottle of pure VG from my work and right away I cut what I have on me with it.
Today has been a whole new vaping experience. Everything seems to be falling in line.
I also ordered 100% VG juices from my local guy today at a lower nic level and they should be here tomorrow.
I'm still not off analogs, but the next few days should show some improvement.
Again, a HUGE thank you to the wonderful, positive and supportive members of ECF!!
