I've made a couple of juices that taste nice, but MAN are they harsh!

They're about 12mg-14mg. The reason it's not exact is because I started at 18mg but didn't get enough flavor (and WAY too harsh), so I added more flavor and VG without adding more nic juice - I didn't want to be using guess work with 60mg.

Here's what I'm using:
60mg PG unflavored nic juice from MyFreedomSmokes
USP VG from One Stop DIY shop
15% of flavors watermelon and waffle (not together ;) ) from Perfumer's Apprentice
And about 5% distilled water per batch.

So, my mix is nearly half VG, which makes me really confused as to why it's so harsh. I get lots of vapor, like you'd expect from VG, and the vapor comes out of my mouth feeling somewhat cool, like you'd expect from VG. But it's pretty harsh. Adding a little more VG and flavor helped, but if I add anymore there will be hardly any nic in it.

It is vape-able, but it's not quite as nice as it could be. As it stands, I can't use it until about lunch time, after my throat has already gotten "warmed up."

What am I doing wrong?

What atty are you using?
Different attys give a different vape.
The 510 is the harshest, the 901 is in the middle, less harsh more flavor a tad less vapor.
The 801 is again more flavor, much less harsh and still good vapor.
I tend to switch attys as the need arises.

Cheap adaptors will allow you to use just about any of the above attys on whatever battery you are using.

With the mix you are using I dont see it causing a harsh vape really, so I dont think it is the juice.

You might want to get some USP PG to help round out your mixes.

I'd suggest trying the following (for a 10 mL batch):

5 mL VG
2 mL 60 mg nicotine in PG
1.5 mL flavor
1.5 mg PG

This would put you at (by volume):

50% VG
1.2% nicotine (12 mg)
15% flavoring
33.8% PG

To fine tune, increase/decrease the flavoring vs PG.

Last time I checked in my mental calculator the numbers come out

  • 50% VG
  • 20% nic
  • 15% flavour
  • 15% PG
But being its an old calculator the batteries might be weak, but...

I'd suggest trying the following (for a 10 mL batch):

5 mL VG
2 mL 60 mg nicotine in PG
1.5 mL flavor
1.5 mg PG

5ml divided by 10ml = 50%
2ml divided by 10ml = 20%
1.5ml divided by 10ml = 15%
1.5ml divided by 10ml = 15%

just sayin...

The nicotine is 60 mg/mL (6%) in PG, so you've not taken into account the PG in the Nic/PG.

just sayin... :vapor:
