Has anyone ever disassembled an eGo battery before?

I'm not sure if this is the right area to ask this question, but I'd like to diassemble one of my dying eGo batteries to mod it into a passthrough device. Does anyone know how they're put together and how to take one apart (without total destruction)? Will the chip inside prevent itfrom operating at 5v and 1000ma? The battery is a 900ma.

The circuit board sets run about 3.4 V. The battery is wired to the back cover so it needs to come off. A very small electronics screwdriver will work to tap it off.
The atty is in very tight. If you have a bad Tank atty/cone screw it on. Then it's just a matter of moving it back & forth w/ force. The cone/atty could be clamped or let the battery sit on a board w/ the cone/atty raised like by a piece of steel then tap the cone nearer battery & rotate tapping.
If a 510 atty is used the atty tube will come off by hand when pushed to side so therefore something like vise grips would be needed to hold on to atty.
If you screw a bolt into battery where the atty goes it would be best to have electrical tape inside to keep separated since if battery goes on bad  direct short!

I received this blue/orange/red LED eGO 650mAh passthrough battery DOA and non-chargeable from the vendor. I could have returned it for exchange but it was worth more to satisfy my curiosity than throw good money after bad for another POS 7-second cutoff battery. It was one of two in the order and the other one works, but 7-seconds? It's at the back of the row as backup only.

Anyhow, I took it apart and found the black wire separated from the charging connector. Don't know if it came that way or I broke it in separation from the tube. Soldered the wire back in place, shoved it all back together, and put it on the charger....charging light lit up. If it won't charge, I hope it will at least blow up.

EDIT: BTW, the battery is a Chinese branded 13450D 3.7V 11031201D HT

Interesting - the 14500 batteries I have won't fit in an eGo tube :(

I've taken several of them apart - I intended to make a 2x14500 box mod that could still use an eGo charger. I will say the battery leads are really easy to break :D

My bad and post edited for misinformation. I fought a hard battle against dyslexia but I still sometimes see what I want to see. Apologies to you and everyone else who've tried to squeeze your surefires etc. into eGO tubes.

Danged thing still doesn't work....except for the charging light....it works as long as you keep it plugged up to the charger. I'm going to keep it out of continuing curiosity and I see photo ops in its future.

Easy to take apart an ego. I found that out the hard way when I dropped one (1100mA) a few too many times. The switch came loose from the tube, and I had to shove it back in and duct tape it. Later, after dropping it again, the button popped out of the switch, so I shoved a 4g acrylic plug in there and taped it down, too. It continued working until the electronics got fried about 4 months later.

The battery connection/switch are only press fitted into the battery tube, so they're pretty easy to remove in the manner SirVette described. Just throw an old atty on, and work it back and forth until it starts to come loose. You could also get a PCB to connect to the battery itself.

As for making a passthrough, I would (and have) just make a passthrough from something else. Like a cheap flashlight (dollar store) or some old toy you have laying around in a drawer somewhere (i made a PT from an old Spy Gear LED light that attaches to your ear. It's not and compact, and the connector mounted at a slight angle to point toward my mouth without having to bend my wrist.)

Update....I recently read that the PT battery can also be charged from the threaded end so decided to give that a try. Note that the pictured batter was completely dead....LED absolutely did not work either. The instant I put it on the charger, the LED began flashing, and seconds later my charger indicator switched from red to green indicating full charge. I removed it from the charger, screwed on a loaded atty, and when I pushed the button the LED flashed 20 times and it went dead again. So, I screwed it back on the charger, it flashed 8 times, I removed it and screwed the atty back on.

This time it fired and I vaped on it all day. When it went red signaling need for charge, I hooked it up in USB mode. LED flashed several times and the red charging lamp at the base came on as normally. 2-1/2 hours later the charger indicator went green again, and I'm still vaping it now.

I evidently overcharged it initially when new and it went into safety auto-shutdown mode as described in the manual (I should probably begin reading those things). Charging from the threaded end reactivated the battery, all is good now, and I'm very happy I didn't return it for exchange.

A most wonderful and joyful Easter to all.
