I was a 1.5 PAD smoker for almost 17 years and after a week of digital/analog jockeying the analogs took a hike and I went straight digital (e-cig). Having said that I still haven't gotten rid of my humidor. I enjoy a good cigar every so often (no more than 1-2/wk) and I really see no problem with it. Here comes the great debate courtesy of mt wife. While I was sitting on the porch with a great cubano and an even better single malt, she walks up to me with pure harted and disgust in her eyes and says, "I only agreed to letting you spend all that e-smoke money if you were going to quit!". So here comes the ultimate question to all my PV bretheren. Are cigars/pipes cheating? Can I say that I quit if I still have my stogie?

Cigars are not inhaled. So sure you can say you could smoking cigarettes which is the most important thing as far as your health and lifespan right? Because inhaling any burned substance into your lungs is not healthy with cigarette smoke being particularly bad due to all the additives and chemicals and crap.

Furthermore, smoking a cigar occasionally will give you all the other alkaloids found in tobacco instead of just nicotine and thus probably help further to keep you off the stinkies.

I'm sure your wife has your health in mind, you can still get cancer from cigars even without inhaling (as I'm sure you know..) so I guess she has a fair point. Somebody on here mentioned a havana juice which was just like a cigar, and of course you can always get an e-cigar to puff it on. I do love a cigar myself but I must admit I have kept away from them in an effort to be 'good'

Kudos for kicking the ciggies, I hope you find happiness whatever you do :)

Well, you quit cigarettes without question, so I'd start with that.

As for the Cigars, it is tobacco, so you can't say you've completely quit tobacco. However, I enjoy a nice cigar from time to time and don't feel it's much of a hindrance to my health. That part is really up to you, but I'll be damned if I don't enjoy them as well.

Pretty simple to me, you've quit smoking cigarettes and not quit having your cigars. As far as keeping your end of the bargain from the beginning that all depends upon what the conversation was between you and the mrs before ya started vaping. Now, no matter what that bargain was, I find it hard to beleive she wants you to go back to smoking your 1.5 pad cigarettes just because you still enjoy 1-2 cigars/week.

You are an intermittent smoker. If it burns, she spurns...

It's subjective. The important question is do YOU feel like you've quit? I think you do, and you want your wife to be proud of your accomplishment. It sounds a bit like she's upset about the money, not about your having a cigar on occasion.

    Just a girl's perspective.

I think it is about the money but then again I'm not spending anything on the cigars. Keeping backstory to a minimum: Dad was a 2-2.5 PAD smoker, quit when he hit 40 started the cigars 1-2/wk same as me. He got the big C diagnosis last year but the docs told him it was an "enviornmental" cancer, not from smoking (how they know I'll never know but he asked if it was from smoking and they said no). Dad is in remission minus half a lung for almost a year now and his prized (and VERY full) humidor now resides in my den. [/backstory] . So I feel that I am no longer a smoker and I am proud of it and I just wish she was too.

Sounds like wife thought you were intent on giving up ALL tobacco products. I can see where she thinks you may have fibbed a little when you light up the cubano. She doesn't see that you had smoking and cigar smoking in two different categories. IT also sounds like she can't stand the smell of a cigar. Perhaps the smell is a factor in her disgusted face look at you.

Work it out with wife. Let her spend some duckies too on herself, or buy her a day of beauty at a local spa. Ask her if it's the smell that is upsetting her. Arrange to have your scotchy smoke somewhere else.

Compromise. You have come this far, you are going to be around a lot longer now....you will have a few extra years to live with your love :) Make them happy years.

Haven't even gotten to considering the question about quitting... got hung up on trying to imagine living with someone who looked at me with 'hatred and disgust' AND 'lets' me spend money.

On the question, probably not.... but things shouldn't always have to be all or nothing... quitting cigarettes is good...congrats on that, having a cigar occasionally doesn't strike me as a big deal....

    Hope it works out...

    What was your original aggreement?

When hubby and I started vaping, it was clear that quitting meant giving up all tobacco burning and tobacco related products. We wanted better health, cleaner air, no more lingering odors, no more burnt holes in clothing, no more ashes, etc.. I quit smoking ciggies. I also had free ciggies when I started vaping. I had just bought a whole carton of ciggies, and I got rid of them.

He quit smoking cigars., and he loved a good cigar out on the golf course. He even quit his nicotine gum because vaping is so much more satisfying.

So, did you have a clear agreement when this began?

Actually to be technical I said I was going to use the e-cig to quit cigarettes because they were getting too expensive. As far as the cigar flavored juice I haaven't found a single tobacco flavor that I can enjoy. The flavor I'm looking for is an EXACT match to a cigar and everything I've tried tastes like crap, even the much lauded Boba's tasted like burnt raisin bran to me. All my Vapes are fruit and soft-drink flavors. I'm also not sure about the smell issue because my porch is open air, and the fact is that it has been nearly 4 months now since i've touched an analog. As far as letting me spend money...well she makes about double what I do so I can't complain too loudly.

Have your Stogie. It's not the same as smoking cigarettes. It's more like having an occasional cocktail instead of getting knock down drunk everyday.
My two sons smoke cigars on occasion but they really don't have to.They aren't "addicted" When we have family get togethers they might go out on the deck and have a 12 year old scotch and enjoy a Perdomo Habano Gordo.
They do not smoke cigarettes.Never have and never will. So enjoy your cigar and vape away. It's apples and oranges.

I don't do tobacco or cigar flavors, but I don't think you will find anything to exactly replicate the taste of burning tobacco in a vaping liquid. Some say you can get close, but I haven't heard anyone say they have nailed the taste. Since the cigars you have were free, maybe you can cut a deal with her that when they are gone, you won't buy anymore, since she says it's about the money.

Awww, give her a big hug, you've got some really nice equipment, especially since you've only been vaping for 4 months! She's probably scared to death after what her dad went through. I'm sure she only wants you to give it ALL up because she loves you and wants you to live a long and happy life together. You two will work it out...

p.s. I smoked out on my porch for years, never in my home, and when I started vaping, I had to wash all of my clothes because they were stinky. I never smelled it before because I was used to it.

Funny you should say that because I had to rewash all my work uniforms. They all smelled like cigarettes even after they were laundered. It's amazing that the smell of gas, oil, and grease will come out of a work shirt but not the smell of a marlboro.
