When I started vaping, I kept a pack of cigarettes in the glove box of my car. I still smoked, but less because I had to make the effort to go to my car to get a cigarette. After about two weeks, I didn't want cigarettes anymore. I tossed the pack. After a few days, I bought another pack. I really didn't feel like smoking anymore because vaping tastes so much better. The pack stayed in my glove box another two months, then I threw it out. That was November, 2011, and I haven't smoked since.

It isn't that hard to switch to vaping. You can do it. Just give yourself the permission to smoke if you really need to. When it's forbidden, is when it's hard and you want to rebel against it and smoke. You'll do fine.

I think the worst part of all of this aside from the risk factor is having to give myself shots. Something just creeps me out about poking myself with a needle lol.

Oh, you get used it it. Insulin, twice a day, every day. I'm lucky I don't have to do more. :)

Easy street from here on out *knock on wood* lol.

Absolutely!
:) the best medicine is humor and a positive outlook.

I hope you get to 100% soon! It's a horrible thing to happen and I wish it wouldn't have, but hopefully coming face to face with your mortality will be a big motivator to stop. It took me an extra 25 years to face mine and God only knows what damage smoking has done over that time. Maybe if you quit now it will be like you never smoked. Happy thoughts!

Very sorry to hear about your situation! As far as vaping, do you know what Nicotine level you have been using? I know if you are still craving cigs, you may be using too low a level. Here is a rough estimate that I've found for figuring out what nicotine level to use:

half pack to a pack a day: 12mg or 1.2
Pack to pack and a half: 18mg or 1.8
Two to two and a half: 24mg or 2.4
At my shop, we offer up to 36mg but you really need to have been a pretty heavy smoker to get up there.

Also, what kind of E-cig are you using? And are you getting pre-filled cartridges or filling with your own liquid? There are a ton of different manufacturers and retailers for liquids offering all kinds of levels, so I would definitely see about stepping up at least one rung so you don't crave analogs anymore. Then after a while of not smoking, you can step back down.

I definitely wish you great luck through all this! And if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. There is a wealth of knowledge to be had through the people here.

Thanks for the info. I'm rocking a Provari Mini right now and using mainly cartotanks, and Protank, AGA-T+, have a Vision Vivi Nova and several juices. Got some 18mg and 12mg from MBV and some miscellaneous 18mg from a few of the local B&M. Got an eVic for backup too along with a 650mah ego-c which was the first kit I bought back in February that is rarely used.

Cravings haven't been too bad since I'm pretty limited in what I can do and the occasionally 3 or 4 puffs here and. Going back to work Sunday since the doc has given his ok on it, just need to be careful and not cut myself due to the blood thinners. The cravings for cigs usually only come at work since it's a more stressful environment than here at home so hopefully getting a few days under my belt will be the starter I need. I had made it 7 or 8 weeks before and then the trouble came when I tried dropping the nic content (18mg down to 12).

So I am doing good as far as the blood clot in my leg, health wise is another matter. Blood test showed several problems that are getting taken care of now. Low vitamin b12, anti phospholipid syndrome (caused the clot), and ct scan showed slightly enlarged spleen. There is a possibility I have Lupus which is not the greatest news but more blood work will confirm if I do or don't, smoking can cause it so another reason I am done with the cigs. Tomorrow will be day 1 again with no smokes.

What lovely presents cigs can bring about in only 6 years of "friendship".

Thanks soba. I had managed about 6 or 7 weeks cig free then thought I'd drop nic level and things went South. Started getting horrid cravings and broke down, bought a pack and lit up. Nothing wrong, only smoke 5 or 6 a day during the work day and days off maybe 2 or 3. I know it's possible to not smoke, just have to stop again :p Should be no worries though, got some awesome juice and plan to order an IBTanked cartotank after a week cig free.

Happened to me too, when I dropped my nic too soon. But after smoking for a little bit, it was easy to go back to vaping 100% (at least for me). Actually, easier. Hope it's the same for you!

Hang in there! Like other folks are saying, keep your nic @ a level that will SATISFY you. Above all else, THAT is the most important part in the beginning. I was @ 24mg for about 6 months, til I caught a cold. After that, my body demanded less nic, so I dropped to 18mg. About 6 months later, my body again suggested less, so I dropped it to 12mg. Now, I'm at 6mg, and sometimes 0. I have never intentionally tried to lower the nic level, and fully expected to stay at 24mg for life. Things don't always turn out as we expect them to. ;)

I have learned that I'm more alert and in better spirits with about 6mg nic. Seems like I vape all the time (this thang is welded to my hand), but I like it. (If I raise the nic level, I vape less.) I'm like a kid in a candy shop! :)

Do what you have to do, but KNOW you've got the whole world supporting your efforts right now. We're either praying for you, or holding you HIGH in our good thoughts.

We're here...use us...and vape strong!

Good luck!

Another thought....

Like many, I'm a bit of a juice junky, lots of flavors, change up frequently, and so on.

When I decided to start nic reduction, I had lots of 24 on hand, and started getting new stocks at 18. Vaped the 24 in the morning, switched over to 18 later in the day. As my older stocks were used up, I replaced them with 18 until all was 18.

Still at 18, but figure when I'm ready for the next step I'll do it the same way. And, if desired, I can always mix equal amounts of, say, 18 and 12 to get 15. (Of course, if you blend your own...)
