It's just that I have :( During a trip to Torquay in January, both myself and the driver had to stand OUTSIDE with the regular smokers to VAPE. I was disgruntled to say the least, as was the bus driver ... but it was company policy (E-Cigs Not Permitted).

Also on a THOMSON flight last September, I discovered to my horror that E-Cigs/vaping is also banned from ALL their flights.

I'd HATE vaping to eventually become as unacceptable as smoking :( I'm afraid I'd be forced back to regular smokes. What would be the point of shivering outside with an E-Cig, when you can do that with a real cigarette?

I had hoped the purpose of E-Cigs (as well as health benefits) was for people to be able to Vape, where regular smokers CAN'T light up because of the smoking ban.

I've heard the E-Cig is BANNED in Australia, so I have not made the trip to see relatives :(((

I'm concerned for our vaping future :/

Personally, I tend to not vape in places where smoking is not allowed. There is just too much ignorance out there when it comes to vaping. Non-smokers and non-vapers don't have a clue about what we are doing. I really don't understand all the governmental bans, but I do understand why the general public may have concerns about being exposed to something they don't understand. I really don't mind going to smoking areas and vaping with the smokers. For one thing, my husband is still a smoker so I step outside with him. For another thing, I've always found smokers to be better company, lol. They are less judgmental, plus it gives me the opportunity to introduce them to the world of vaping.

I must say that I am the opposite lolololol (Though I agree with you about the non judgemental company of smokers!). I was enthralled with the situation where I could Vape (like I used to smoke before the smoking ban) in places where smoking was banned. And still enjoy Vaping whilst having a drink in a cosy pub (which allows vaping). I mostly Vape where I used to smoke cigs the most (Pubs, holidays, social gatherings etc)

I'm afraid if vaping was banned due to ignorance, I'd go back to regular smokes. I try to avoid places where I cannot vape now, rather than be treated with the same contempt as smokers. And I honestly did not know about the vaping bans on my holidays (I never thought to ask .... as I wasn't actually ... smoking) or I would have chosen a different bus company/airline.

I once suffered mild (but very painful) frostbite after the smoking ban came in (whilst I still smoked), and I don't think I'd like to have the same again with Vaping (if it's also banned).

I know all about the health benefits of vaping and am loving it. However, I did not want to quit smoking, I enjoyed it. (had to because of Angina at a young age) Vaping was a way to give up smokes, but STILL be able to Vape where smoking was banned. Now more and more Vaping bans seem to be popping up.

Ive had both positive and negative, I tend not to vape in public places where smoking is banned; but I'm not adverse to a little bit of stealth vaping here and there when nobody is looking, but generally I go outside with the smokers.

I was at a VERY expensive black tie do over the christmas holidays and was stood outside the main entrance under a canopy with some rogue smokers. The ushers came out to move the rogue smokers into a covered "pen" around the corner, which I had missed and I said to him, but actually I'm vaping not smoking, at which point he smiled and said, I know madam, if you would like to step inside into the entrance hallway you are more than welcome ;)

The negative responses have been varied, but not from a particular establishment, but then like I said I like to step outside; like Tigerlily I often find the company of smokers more enjoyable, they are generally a social bunch. And unless it's raining which it tends to a do quite a bit round here as its on a plain, and there is no cover, I like having a stretch and getting some fresh air. But I've had flack from a few smokers who have reacted like I am some kind of sell out, and a few non smokers whose only comment has been "so when are you actually going to give up smoking properly then?"

But most of my friends are intrigued and happy for me, my family is positively over the moon, so much so that after some debate with the ex-smoker hubs, my back door step chair is left abandoned as I vape indoors now, even my mother who is a nurse and a vehement anti smoker who nursed my dad as he wasted away from smoking related illnesses happily lets me vape in her house.

I tend to think we are more likely to see vaping getting a widespread ban if we are militant about it and flaunt it in other peoples faces when it isn't appropriate, I think softly softly is the order of the day. The landlord of the pub I go to once a month for a group social was looking at me curiously the other day as I stood outside, I didn't say anything, but next time I go I will, if the oppertunity arises talk to him about my PV, and perhaps implant the idea that he could become a "vaping" pub as it is a freehold with its own micro brewery so he doesn't have some head office to report to and issue rules from above.

I haven't had any negative experiences from any businesses as of yet. I had one woman fake cough at me when I was standing outside of walmart, but I think that is the only time I've ever had an issue in almost 3 years.

I've vaped in all different types of places, but I'm not overt about it. I don't hide my PV while I'm using it, but I just hold the vapor in if I'm somewhere like a restaurant, especially if there are kids nearby. I don't act like I'm doing anything wrong and no one seems to really notice.

I'm not in the UK but, I doubt it's better in the States. If you look and act like a smoker, you're going to get treated like a smoker. Use a PV that has no resemblance to a cigarette and don't sneak around and you'll usually get a positive response. I've vaped in bars and restaurants in four states (NC, GA, NY, and FL) and wherever food and drink were allowed at Disney World. I've gotten a few curious looks. Some people are intrigued enough to ask a few questions but, I've never had any trouble. If someone objected, I wouldn't be rude. I'd either stop or go somewhere else. I'm sure that will happen one of these days but, it hasn't yet.

I now, tend to ask if I can use a PV (Which looks nothing like a real cig, being black with green light). If they don't know what it is, I explain and give a demo if asked, and explain about it. I've even called it 'Nicotine Replacement System' (I wouldn't vape if I got down to Zero Nicotine - I'd stop altogether. Right now I'm on Medium Nicotine E-Juice and I started at High, which is too strong for me now ) ). MOST places I have been too such as Wetherspoons and Local pubs etc, are fine with Vaping and some say 'OK' after an explanation.

Stealth Vaping sounds interesting, although it does sound a bit like 'smoking behind the bike sheds' and like risking doing something you're not supposed to (And we've all done that - lololol) just my opinion.

I have now booked another holiday with an EasyJet flight to Europe (A deal too good to miss) and from reading online, I have now JUST discovered that Vaping is BANNED on EasyJet flights too! (Tips are: Go to the loo on the plane and Vape! - No thanks lolol. I'll try a gum, spray or inhalator, for the two plus hour journey!).

I find Vaping is widely accepted though in Europe. Places like Spain, you ALSO must go OUTSIDE to smoke regular cigarettes , but Vaping is permitted indoors.

I notice I actually have less problems when I use my bigger PV's like my Provari mini, or my Pigcigs in public than I do when I have one that looks like a cigarette. I think more people know that it must be an ecig...although I do think some people think I am doing drugs when I have my bigger PV's. But since I know I am doing nothing wrong it doesn't bother me.

As I said previously, I haven't had any problems at all. However, here are my rules of ettiquette for vaping:

  • Do not hide it and do not use anything that looks like a cigarette.
  • I've never had it happen but, if anyone objects don't stomp your feet and say you have the right even if you've previously gotten permission. Explain what you're doing. If they still object, stop or leave.
  • If you get curious questions, answer politely. In a bar, sometimes it's a conversation starter. Send people to this forum that want to know more.
  • Outside, I just vape.
  • In a bar, I just vape.
  • In a restaurant I typically ask. I've never been turned down.
  • I still step out of the doctor's waiting room but, I don't leave the premises and it's non-smoking campus.

I'm not much of a shopper. So, I might have taken a couple hits in stores but, I'm not in there long enough for it to matter.

Work was a little strange. I have the kind of position where I wouldn't be fired out of hand for doing it, unless I'd been told not to. So, to lessen the chance of being told not to, I just started vaping in my cube and didn't ask. Of course, people noticed and they actually liked it. They even started inviting me to use it in meetings. I'd been doing it for several months when I made the mistake of mentioning that I hadn't asked HR within earshot of an HR person. The next thing I know, I've got an HR person in my face asking me what I needed to know. With some anxiety, I pulled it out, explained what it was, said I'd been using it in my cube for months and asked what she thought about it. She said, "How cool!!! If it's not bothering anyone, go ahead." Now it's my cube my rules. I avoid it in common areas usually but, I've slipped up and forgotten now and then. Whether I use it in meetings, depends on the meeting.

There's several legitimate points, even if you're forced to brave the same elements as smokers, the first being the number and magnitude of toxins you don't subject your body to with each draw on an e-cig—nor the bodies of others whose air you're sharing.

Secondarily—but just as objective and quantifiable—are the monetary penalties smokers are forced to cough up (pun not intended) that the vaper is not subject to. I don't know the tax structure regarding cigarettes in the UK, but here smokers are facing a de facto prohibition, so agressive are the levies piled layer upon layer onto each pack.

ive been vapeing for a year now and have done so pretty much everywhere i go. i work at an elementary school and dont vape there except in the lounge. pretty much all other public places i do. it would depend on how i was approached and by whom on if id stop or not...politeness gets my favorable attention. if a business asked me to stop id probably leave and not return to patronize that place. a person that comes on rude or like a jerk id probably just ignore. ive not been asked to not vape yet so either im a stealthy dude or no one cares much.

I vape conspicuously on purpose. I want people to see and question. If they want to learn, I'm willing to teach. If they want to get ....-hurt about it, I'm also willing to oblige.

I am fully with you on that one! WHY HIDE AWAY!!?? We're NOT doing ANYTHING wrong and VAPING is NOT included in the No Smoking Ban Bill. We should NOT have to hide away to vape! I AVOID where Vaping is not allowed (if possible). I want to VAPE where smoking is banned!
