If you got a defective mod, then contact the retailer ASAP. If they do not want to honor their policy on Dead on Arrival or defective products (which they must have in order to collect money from Visa/MC/Disc/Amex cards) then you can just file a dispute with your credit card and get your money back. If it's a debit, I cannot say for sure.

This has nothing at all to do with shipping insurance, which is what they are trying to sell you for $0.88 at checkout.

But before you do so you really should figure out if in fact the mod is defective or not. Methods already explained in this thread.

I've been thinking about it and I am not sure it is an extended warranty. I think it looks more like insurance against lost or stolen during shipment and the hardware being DOA. Then the insurance is over after that. I did call it an extended warranty but, if it were an EW it would last well beyond delivery.

I don't think you're reading most of the responses in this thread.

It's only shipping insurance
Read all about it here

If your item is defective, then that falls under the return policy for defective items. Which is 30 days.
Read their policy here
"We gladly accepts returns of unopened, unused, undamaged, or defective items purchased on our website for a refund or exchange within 30 days of original purchase."

Keep in mind that vape retailers are notorious for not wanting to honor their warranties on defectives so they try to push you off on the manufacturer who them pushes you back to the retailer.

Waste no time, if in fact your mod is defective, contact them ASAP.

If they try to push you onto the manufacturer, do not bother and call your credit card company to file a dispute on the charge. This will make them jump and do the right thing. Been there, done that a billion times.

You get the money credited back to your card right away and they will never get it back until they honor their warranty.

Eightvape is offering "long term accident protection too though, like a kind of extended warranty for their vape thingies.

I will say this.... If it's anything like home/car insurance (and if I imagined they would be around to fullfill their five year accident protection) well, I am guessing I would be on the "black list" fairly shortly.

Especially IF I only bought joyetech items.

WITH THAT SAID to hopefully decrease CONFUSION, I am not talking about the "lost in shipping" situation which is something ENTIRELY different and frankly any vape company worth their salt should offer without a 0.88 dollar fee. Stuff (despite complaints otherwise) just does not get lost in the mail that often.

Also, yeah, you got a year's warranty and sometimes, you can like make an accident look like a faulty vape thing but it is by no means a guarantee.

Neither is insurance where the issuing company has long since gone out of business though.

What did ArcticFox do that changed your setting? I just installed it on a mod and will keep and eye out for such things!

AD

I'd like to know, too. I haven't had the problem with AF but I only use it for preheat on mods that don't have it. I don't use TC.

I installed Arctic Fox on one of my Pico 75's to check it out with that mod. I have a bakers dozen of them because I like them that much, with three in use now, and wanted to see how AF worked with that mod for the way I vape. I vape VW mode 99% of the time, basically only switching to TC if I want to check coil temperature with whatever build I have in it at the time.

So I left the default 8 profiles active after loading the software and vaped away changing things on the mod, in the profile I was in, as I went . That worked fine for me until I changed a battery, and then the things got 'snarly'. My vape was just not right. After a bit of mussing around I figured out that AF in this mod changes to another 'profile' than what I set before I changed the battery, after a battery change. So I set up the 3 profiles I wanted to keep so I had only 3 to work with to keep things simple, and now I reset the profile I want active every time I change a battery. It's been working well for me for a couple of weeks and I like AF now, but still not sure I want to load it on the rest of my Pico's. Time will tell. I suspect if I vaped TC more I would have made up my mind by now that AF was worth it, but I don't, so it is what it is for me right now :)

Then again, I might just not know enough about AF to set things up as I really want it to be :(

It doesn't matter because you can just install Eleaf's firmware if you decide you want to get rid of AF. I've done it a bunch of times.

Thanks for this info @UncleJunkle. I just downloaded the original firmware versions just in case I need one one day. I didn't know Eleaf had them on their website. Much appreciated :thumb:

Very smart thing to do. Perhaps even upload a copy to a free cloud storage site. Offsite backups are a good idea.

I hear you :) . By the end of the month I'll have these files on three different hard drives. Back in the day I was a system admin for a bunch of Unix engineering stations and backups were critical. That's kinda stuck with me over the years. Ya, this won't save me if there's a fire here, but then again these files aren't that critical. The important stuff goes to our daughter on disc once in a while. I'm more comfortable with that for important data.

A lifetime ago, me too! I'll never forget my famous first act as a sys admin intern: chown idiot -R * ... every file in the user directories was named after me. Hmmm, wonder who did that?? Years later when I had my .... together professionally, that story seemed a lot funnier. That day, less so.

Thank goodness for backups.

Must be ordering the wrong stuff to be having all those problems.
I'll never understand needing a mod that will wind your watch for you. Or has a TP dispenser.
    Vaping is too simple!

The mod that is in my hand is 8 years old, and still works like new. (and there is no "firmware" needed)
    Stop complicating things needlessly!

I agree, keep it simple. I bought an Innokin mod with a touch screen it worked when it felt like working, very annoying. I tried vaping TC it was ok, but I just vape mostly vape VW. Then once 5 years ago I bought a voice control mod and had to repeat the command 5 or 6 times before the mod would respond, by that time I could have done whatever manually 3 times. I may have ordered the wrong stuff but, I watched youtube reviews to help make an informed decision. I only order name brands. I have never considered super high-end mods $300+. I have also had mods that lasted a very long time. If you don't mind, what is the make and model of your 8-year-old mod.

You may be better off with an unregulated semi-mech or full mech if electronics don't seem to last you.

All I buy is run-of-the-mill, cheap, poor vaper's regulated mods and I have no major issues with them.

However, I vape at low wattages with thin, round wire coils (fast ramp-up). And quite frankly, from what I have seen through the years, I believe how high a wattage you vape matters as to the longevity of a mod, especially cheap chinese mods. Heat is not a friend of cheap electronics.

I also believe that using a USB port constantly can eventually kill a mod.

Vaping isn't like smoking, it's a lot more involved. Lots more to think about and to be mindful of. And when you buy the cheap stuff like me, extra care and mindfulness is imperative if longevity is important to you.

I will look into unregulated mods. I've heard a lot of people say it is a bad idea. I use an external charger. I am using two and charging at the same time. I wouldn't have it any other way. I am talking about having to tether it to the wall so now if you want to vape you have to hang around in that area for 3 hours. lol
