Is this build difficult to get to wick properly without dry or burnt hits? I have had no issues with my regular Micro coil builds on my kfl+ but I tried a chimney twice tonight and it's just not wicking properly or something. I am wrapping the cotton around the coil in a criss cross and putting the ends to the side of the deck like I always do on my normal microcoil builds.

here is pictures of the coil I know the top looks a little ....ty because I had a fun time getting that around the post but it burns from inside out and I didn't see any Hotspots

I don't believe the KF system is really meant for a Chimney coil. I personally don't see any need to even try it. It works just fine with the standard micro coils put in the standard way.

What exactly are you trying to achieve with a chimney coil?

Well just playing with builds mostly watched rip do it and wanted to see if I really noticed a difference in flavor. I will post pics of wicking it a bit later thanks

I prefer the chimney build for my Kayfun. It gives an airier draw, which was my biggest con with the Kayfuns. After mastering the wicking process, I get no dry hits, no gurgling, and no leaking all the way to the last drop in the tank.

The key is less cotton when your wicking. My strand of cotton is about 1/8" thick after it's loosely roll with my hands. If you roll your wick dense, you'll get dry hits. It should only be long enough to wrap around the outside of the coil and have the end touching the bottom deck where the wicking channels are at. It's ok if it's a little long and requires to be folded once, but if your fold is longer than that base, you need to trim the wick. Make sure the the wick is pushed up against the wall of the base and doesn't block the wicking channel at all. At the top of the coil, your wick should not cover the coil at all. If you don't see the top coil, you've used too much wick.

My recommendation, when you're learning to wick a chimney coils, is to actually aim to use so little wick that it does gurgle a bit, then next time make your wick a tad thicker. That way you'll gauge exactly how much (how little) this build really needs.

Thank you!!! I could see the top of my chimney that wasn't covered but I bet I made it too thick around the coil and a little too much against the wall. I will try to use about half of what I used I bet I used too much.

Not sure if this is gonna be much help, but I have a blog entry with a step by step wicking guide for it. Should give a pretty good idea of the wicking path and how much cotton to use:

I vape my Boba's bounty exclusively with the chimney build, so I guess it works well enough even for a 100% VG. I do have to quality that I've only vaped it up till 21 watts though. No guarantees on anything higher.

Yeh. Pictures of your wicking would be handy.

Also, try REAAAALLY saturating the wick before reassembling it.

I use quite a lot more wicking than I usually do for horizontals, and still I've had no issues with wicking tbh.

Ah, mysteries in life

yeah I'm starting to wonder if it's the top of my coil that's a little ....ed up because I didn't give it enough slack and maybe top of the coil is a Hotspot

btw.. do I want the cotton tight around the coil or loose?

I wrap it pretty tight tbh. Also you reaaaaally wanna make sure you cover the entire length of the coil or it'll burn like a ..... It's an awful thing believe me. Hahaahah

honestly it's not burning anymore but I just don't taste the flavor I guess it's kind of dry or some crap.... I don't know why but this is not working for me

I forgot what coil I put in my Russian 91% but I am going to have to study it carefully because it is just producing the perfect vape for me right now at 1.2 ohms.... it's like night and day between this kfl+ I have with chimney build in it. I guess don't try to fix what's not broken I am happy as heck with my Russian with its tribeca juice in it right now sweet sweet flavor clouds o plenty

Your new wicking job looks good. Just make sure as you're screwing on the chimney that you don't tamper with the cotton, it will cause flooding if it isn't down in the channel properly. I also always take a few hits on the chimney like a dripper. Just to test it out then put a small amount of juice in it for the first trial run. Can't be too overly cautious. ;)
