You dont need to use sub-ohm coils to get more flavor, you need to learn to optimize your builds and buy tanks that are actually geared toward flavor and not cloud chasing. There is no point at where one is 'ready for subohming' like its some goal that we all need to reach. Its a means to achieve a specific end powerwise for some people, its not anywhere close to the status quo of where vapers need to ultimately end up.
I agree with this completely. With regulated mods you don't have to sub ohm to achieve massive clouds either. The newbies seem to think with a regulated mod you still have to build super low ohms and that's just not the case. I mostly use sub ohm with tanks but they are tanks like the Herakles which is built for flavor and vapor production.

Just re-read your post and see that you are looking for more flavor. Try a Kayfun, best flavor I have tried. Many people say it's old technology, but to me the flavor can't be beat. I do "mouth to lung" inhales, and the Kayfun is the perfect atomizer for me.
I'm glad you mentioned the mouth to lung hitting bc that's what I prefer as well. The straight lung hits are just waaaaaay too much for me. But so far with my atlantis & new orchid rta's my husband just picked up, it seems impossible to do a M to L (mouth to lung) hit. He's only built 1 coil so far but we had the same problem with it (orchid atop a Carvella mech mod). It was super strong & harsh. Now since it was his very 1st build I wasn't too surprised thar it didn't turn out perftect. I think he put too few loops in the wire causing the resistance to be lower than he intended. He still has a lot more practice, but I'm beginning to wonder if it's even possible to get that vape I'm looking for regardless of the coil build?.. No way could we get a M to L hit on the orchid the 1 time we tried it. It was nothing like my nautilus. Sorry to jump around, I guess I'm just trying to figure out if these tanks ( Atlantis, orchid rta) are capable of producing a smooth, less aggressive mouth to lung hit & if so, what are we doing wrong & how do we achieve this smooth, flavorful vape?

S,C,
?

They are mathematically an inverse relationship. A 0.5ohm coil needs twice the power of a 1.0 ohm coil.

Let's look at Ohm's Law: P = v^2 ÷ r

For a 1 ohm coil: P = 4.2^2 ÷ 1 = 17.46W

For a 0.7 ohm coil: P = 4.2^2 ÷ 0.7 = 25.2W

For a 0.5 ohm coil: P= 4.2^2 ÷ 0.5 = 34.92W
Technically you are correct with the math. But there is one important thing left out and that is the gauge of wire used in building those coils. A 1ohm built from 32 gauge will light up like a bulb with 22 watts. a 1ohm built with 26 or 24 gauge wire may get warm. You have to have the amps to overcome the potential of the wire. Amps run on the surface of the wire and not through it like its been taught for years. A bigger surface area(i.e. larger gauge wire) means need more amps. You also need to take into affect the how to Seven is putting out the 22 watts? what voltage is that based on. As I am typing this down I have my mega on my Sigelei 100 watt box mod. I set it to 30 watts which the screen read 4.2 volts at . 5 ohms and I had a moderate amount of vapor. I am also using a first gen coil from the aspire. Eleaf Melo coils also work and my personnel opinion a bit better and use pure cotton. The earlier coils use smaller wire in there coil. I rebuild them so I have torn a lot of them apart. I hope this helps.

S,C,
as ohm-gnome said, the size of the wire is key. Kat Eyez you mentioned your a flor junky, well I am too. I have the Aspire mega. Its normally not my cup of tea but got it for next to nothing. You can do a lot with this tank. It does have airflow on all 4 sides but the holes get real small constricting the airflow. Even my homemade juice has a good flavor in that tank. If your husband can rebuild then these coils are extremely easy to put a basic micro coil inside, run the cotton threw it from the outside, trim down and fluff out some. Its pretty easy to do and saves money on buying more coils. I cant comment on a kayfun but I have heard a lot of people like them but there is a learning curve with them. But I guess there is a learning curve with any new tank to get what you want out of it
