Hi all,

Just got a HCigar Kayfun 3.1 clone for a week. The first time I set it up with non micro coil 8 wraps of 30 AWG Kenthal on a 18 AWG syringe with cotton, it was vaping beautifully. Reading 1.7 Ohms and pushing 3.7v on my Vamo V5. Couple of days later, noticed the coil and cotton turned gunky but it's still vaping nicely.

I thought I might as well try the Silica wick and wire that came with the HCigar clone, and noticed right off, I get dry hits and burnt taste. I let the setup stand on my desk for a couple of hours and it's better but still get dry hit and burn taste if I take a 5s drag which was no problem on on the first setup. Moreover, I am not getting as much flavor as before so I thought I'll redo the whole coil. This setup was 2.8 Ohms, so I used 4.7v.

On my 3rd setup, I made a Micro coil using 30 AWG Kenthal on a mini screw driver that is around 2mm. It is wicked with cotton. I believe I made 10 wraps and this time, the coil is compressed and torch so they're together side by side nicely. It measured 1.5 Ohms but even at the lowest setting at 3v, it would give me dry hits and burn taste on 5s drag. I have to switch over to WW and use the lowest 3W setting. Still, it's occasionally giving me dry hits and burn taste.

I've check the coil and cotton, they are not burnt. The coil glows rapidly on low settings (3v or 3W) and I'm puzzled as to why this is happening. I rewicked the coil with cotton again, making sure not to block the fluid channels but getting the same result.

Should I take apart the tank and soak them in warm water to wash it out thoroughly?

Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks and Happy New Year!!! In the meantime, I have my ProTanks to fall back on :vapor:

Cheers!

I hope I can help as I recently bought one and am loving it. I would assume its the wick on your builds that are giving you problems. I would start by watching the build videos from RipTrippers. Wicking these things can be tricky. You have to make sure you line it up right and all that. Some people wick it, and then pull the wick up and screw the chimney on and then stuff it down the sides of the block. I prefer what I saw in the video, which was wicking it, then wetting the wicks with juice and pressing them up against the block, then screwing the chimney on and filling. As far as washing, sure! I usually wash mine before every new build with warm water and dry it off (also if you didnt wash it when you got it, its a good idea to. They come kind of dirty)
