Hi,

I'm a new owner of a HCigar KF 3.1 clone. This is my 1st RBA and I do have some newbie experience replacing coils on my ProTank.

My 1st setup was 8 wraps (30AWG Kenthal wire on a 18AWG syringe needle) with cotton, vape awesome...flavor is very smooth, but a little flooding. Noticed a little slight burnt after a tank but not too bad, still vape great. Coil was 1.6 Ohms, running 3.6v on my Vamo V5.

2nd setup I decided to try the silica and wire that came with the kit...I started to get dry hits and burnt taste on 5 sec vape, so I decided to let the KF sit for a couple of hours while I go back to my PT. It started working ok but flavor was weak and it was ridiculously high at 2.8 Ohms. I had to run it at 4.5v and it was draining my battery.

Present setup, I made a micro coil with cotton which I believed is the same coil as the first but squeeze together and torched. It also read 1.6 Ohms but I'm getting burnt taste and dry hits. I even set the Vamo to 3v and I would get dry hits on 5 sec vape. I eventually switched over to VW and use a very low setting of 3.5W.

However, I found out over the last 24hrs is that, if I cover the air hole and give it a short prime before I vape, I could do so at 3.3v and it taste wonderful. The coil is looking good, hardly any burnt and seems to glow up really really quick.

Is it possible I have a wicking issue? Any small details I may have missed out when setting up my KF? I'm a little worried as I'm soon to receive my Provari Mini and all that "constant stable voltage" quality is making me worried that I might be frying coils easily on the KF clone.

Any help and advise would be kindly appreciated. Thanks!

Cheers and happy 2014!!!

Got my Provari Mini, the KF clone is working great on it!!! Yay!!! No more fear of vaping a nasty burnt vape that hurts my throat.

Great to hear it's working out.
Congrats on the Provari. I still need to get one for myself.
I did just get 2 of the Kayfun Lite clones from Fast Tech that I ordered about a month ago. Actually, a month to the day. LOL
Cleaned up 1, wrapped a 1.1ohm coil and wicked. Vaping great!
Now I just need to disassemble/clean/build and vape the last one. The cleaning is so tedious!!!!
My center post/air tube was filled with machine oil. Blechhhhhh Yuk.
Good thing i cleaned it first. Usual hot water scrub with dish soap. When I blew through the air hole, thick oil came out.
Had to disassemble the center post again. This time, removed all the orings/insulators and soaked all the metal parts in 99% alcohol.
Then scrubbed with soap again.
Nologicone, i see you're in the bay area. Me too. I'm near Concord. Small world huh?

MadVapes Mike has a nice Tutorial Video that I watched and built my first KayFun 3.1. I just love the way it tastes.

I'm lucky my HCigar clone comes pretty clean...got it from Luxor Vapes, LA. Came really fast. Yup, we're not too far away...I stay in SF. Cheers!

You might need to mess with the air adjustment screw but be careful because the screw is cheap and will strip easily. Mine just pushed all the way into the center pin. The kayfun is really easy to build but if the airflow is not adjusted you might see less juice flow. A correctly setup kf will have no problem keeping up with chain vaping even with high vg juice
