Hi,
I'm a new owner of a HCigar KF 3.1 clone. This is my 1st RBA and I do have some newbie experience replacing coils on my ProTank.
My 1st setup was 8 wraps (30AWG Kenthal wire on a 18AWG syringe needle) with cotton, vape awesome...flavor is very smooth, but a little flooding. Noticed a little slight burnt after a tank but not too bad, still vape great. Coil was 1.6 Ohms, running 3.6v on my Vamo V5.
2nd setup I decided to try the silica and wire that came with the kit...I started to get dry hits and burnt taste on 5 sec vape, so I decided to let the KF sit for a couple of hours while I go back to my PT. It started working ok but flavor was weak and it was ridiculously high at 2.8 Ohms. I had to run it at 4.5v and it was draining my battery.
Present setup, I made a micro coil with cotton which I believed is the same coil as the first but squeeze together and torched. It also read 1.6 Ohms but I'm getting burnt taste and dry hits. I even set the Vamo to 3v and I would get dry hits on 5 sec vape. I eventually switched over to VW and use a very low setting of 3.5W.
However, I found out over the last 24hrs is that, if I cover the air hole and give it a short prime before I vape, I could do so at 3.3v and it taste wonderful. The coil is looking good, hardly any burnt and seems to glow up really really quick.
Is it possible I have a wicking issue? Any small details I may have missed out when setting up my KF? I'm a little worried as I'm soon to receive my Provari Mini and all that "constant stable voltage" quality is making me worried that I might be frying coils easily on the KF clone.
Any help and advise would be kindly appreciated. Thanks!
Cheers and happy 2014!!!
