Just wanted to share my success story (which I hope remains successful and doesn't backfire on me) real quick.

I got an Hcigar Kayfun 3.1 from my local B&M about a week ago. I researched the proper way to wick a Kayfun (most importantly, making sure the wick isn't covering the channels), popped a wick and coil in along with my favorite liquid and vapid away. For a while everything seemed great, but every once in a while I would experience a harsh hit. Flavor and vapor were still there, but it was like a tiny hint of a dry hit. So after doing some research I figured out that this is apparently what a Kayfun dry hit feels like. After messing around with it a bit, I also figured out that if I unscrewed the top cap a bit, 3-4 large bubbles would come up and I'd get 10-15 really nice hits before it started happening again. I wanted mine to be hassle free. I didn't wanna have to remove the top cap every 10-15 hits.

So first I tried rewicking about 5 different times, each time decreasing the amount of wick I had in. Still, with the least possible amount of wick I could get in there and still touch the bottom, the problem kept happening. Then I started looking at pictures of Kayfun juice channels and comparing them to mine. Right off the bat I noticed that if I looked down into the deck area with the bottom wide chimney thing on, I couldn't actually see my juice channels. I could feel them a little bit with a screwdriver though. I also noticed that my horizontal and vertical channels didn't connect.

I got out the dremel, and using a small diamond bit, I VERY slowly and patiently shaved away at the channels. I got them to juuuust barely connect and I worked the vertical channel a bit. I tested the new channels by putting the entire chimney on and taking a few pulls to see how much air flowed through the juice channels. I put some cheap juice that I don't really like into the tank and tried it. I was looking for small bubbles to appear after a few good pulls to tell me that juice was coming up through the channels. After 10-15 pulls, dry hit, and no bubbles.

I emptied the tank and dried everything off. Reworked the vertical channels even more, and concentrated on the point where they reach the deck. Refilled it with the cheap juice and tried it. After about 4-5 hits, bubbles! I chain vapid it until I was dizzy and every 2-3 hits I would see small bubbles rise up, telling me that juice was definitely entering the deck area. So far, no dry hits, no flooding (from over-enlarging the channels), and no leaking (which has so far not happened to me with the Kayfun). This was about an hour ago. I should stress that I hardly took anything off the channels at all, maybe enlarged the vertical ones by 10-15%, and lengthened the horizontal channels in order to fully reach the bottom of the vertical ones. I would've posted pics but my iPhone camera couldn't seem to get clear enough pictures. Only time will tell if this actually fixed all my problems, but I'm about to empty the crap juice back into the bottle, load it up with my favorite (which is Space Jam Omega btw), and go enjoy some fireworks.

If you're having Kayfun dry hit problems, I'd try wicking it right first, but if the problems persist, compare your channels to some pics on the net and maybe try this, but make sure you have patience, and don't over-do it. It worked for me (so far lol).

Well, the channels were likely NOT the problem, but if over compensation works so be it.

What you describe is usually New user over wicking. Even if you don't think you did!

Opening the top simply lets the cotton get flooded.

I am not sure I totally agree since I started using hcigar KF clones a few months ago, my cotton wicks have progressively decreased in volume and I only experienced this problem as of late and only in two tanks of the four I use

Im using silica, and the very ends of my wicks just baaaarely touch the deck beside the channel holes (NOT on top of them). If I look inside, I can see the channels. I tried all sorts of configurations, the "figure 8", the "navy nest", and simply dangling the ends of the wick on the deck gave me the fewest dry hits. If I used any less wick, I wouldn't get any wicking action.

H-cigars quality has dropped a lot lately. I've "cleaned" up the juice channels on about 40 of the recent runs both 3.1 and lite+ for people that hang out at my fav B&M. Always the same thing, machine didn't cut the vert channel deep enough past the threads so they don't connect at the base. I'm sticking to EHPro kayfuns now. Machining on everyone I Have seen has been flawless.

Don't kid yourself , a friend of mine had the exact same problem with one of his ehpros and had to grind down the positive block on the other just to get his centerpost to line up properly with the air port on the base , and others have the center post protruding 2mm out of the top of the positive block , it's just a simple fact that buying any clone from China is luck of the draw , be prepared to do a little bit of extra work if you're not lucky .

I'm sure EHPro will have some bad ones too but overall there quality is really good. I have 3 lite+ v3's and they are flawless. A local shop got a case of them and not one is bad so far out of about 200 checked for machining flaws. Being mass made bad ones will get missed but a couple out of several thousand VS 30% or more per batch is pretty good IMO

I too had a wicking problem with ToBeCo 28.5 mm Big Kayfun Lite Plus until I enlarged my juice channels.
I took three shots at it and finally got it right:
I made a nut 4mm tall M12-0.75, put it on where the chimney goes. Drilled the channels with 2mm drill bit, then removed the nut.
