Ok so the RED one just arrived. Quick add a battery and hook to laptop to download the settings I'm using on the Black one.

    *** Shorted *** (powers off)

Humm... oddly it would work with the USB cable plugged in but not otherwise (or for long). Then I recalled others having issues with the SS/Silver screw on the bottom. Lose, tighten. Bingo!

I was not sure if I had a 510 (3 tanks tried), a battery issue (the Basen and Boxer ones won't fit - to large around) or what?

    However, currently vaping away on NiFe48/52 30AWG Ribbon @ 0.85ohms and 15W/390F.

Yay, it appears this mod is gathering quite a following.

I don't normally do replaceable-battery mods, but I really liked the look of it (the red one) from them moment I first saw it.

But then I came across that YT review where the guy gets shocked and immediately lost interest. Have they fixed that issue perhaps? It didn't look like it could be a one off from that video as far as I can remember anyway. Or is this mod so nice that you guys don't mind getting shocked on a regular basis perhaps?

Haven't seen any vids, but I did read about it just before I ordered mine.
I have to call that user error.

Basically... with the center screw backed out, seat the large battery cap so it sits level or slightly below (inside) the base of the mod (so it's stable when you set it down). THEN... tighten the center screw to make the negative contact.

It should be at least slightly within the large cap and present no shock hazard.

    Simples.

Except... it does mean keeping a small flat head around if swapping different makers' batteries. :(

Cool. It does sound like a user error I'm likely to make though, haha. But I guess I'd learn quick enough with the instant punishment :p

So if it's screwed in all the way it can't shock you anymore, or is it just less likely to happen because it's harder to touch the screw when it's recessed?

Not sure, don't even know how it can happen.
You'd have to also find the positive somewhere on the mod/atty to complete the circuit or you wouldn't feel a thing... like mechs, you're holding the neg switch (actually... the entire conductive mech body is the circuit path).

So maybe there is some fault with some of them.
But I can tell you... I've been trying to make it shock me and so far no go.

Hmmm, interesting. I might just have to put it back on the to watch list then, thanks.

So I take it you're really liking yours?

    I am liking it.
Damn good looking and fantastic handfeel.

But there's also the SMY version, 18650 only though I believe.
I wasn't taken by its' pistol grip body, but it's smaller (closer to VTC size) and pre-configured by Daniel of DJlsb and seems to be well loved.

I got the VT because I was on a DNA noob kick... and the current sales made it cheaper.

Oh and... it was an excuse to investigate the 26650s.

Pistol grips aren't my thing, but I liked the look of this one from the start.

And I don't have any replaceable batteries yet anyway so I might as well start with the biggest one, haha.

Still a bit on the fence about the DNA boards, the menu looks more complicated then I'd like but I'll do some more research.

I saw these for 70 (euro) bucks on flash-sale at Gearbest yesterday by the way if anyone's interested.

Day 3 of my Red VT75 and I started getting "weak battery" so recalling that there was a firmware fix for this I searched this thread (painfully I might add) and updated both my VT75's with the new firmware.

I have to say that vaping with the device monitor open was a real eye opener. I found that my power settings were to low. (and the droop on the battery voltage was rather LARGE) After tweaking the profile I was using all is well again.

While testing I was able to get the VT to feel "warm" in the hand. Something I had not noticed before. I'll have to see how these batteries hold up during the rest of the day.
EDIT: Just refilled the tank and I'm getting the battery indicator flashing right after a pull/draw/toke/puff. Less intrusive than the "weak battery" but still somewhat worrysome. (battery voltage resting is 3.73V)

But what is the battery voltage during a vape is the important thing. It says it is too low if you are getting a "weak battery".

I'd need to be able to turn on some sort of scale on the device monitor to see that I think.
    27602168824_493f013e41_o.jpg
Yeah they never added a scale to the graph. Hopefully they will do that in the future. But I get it from looking at these graphs for so long. If you hit the record button, it will store the values that would be handy since the scale values isn't there.

But the battery voltage looks like about 0.6v during preheat. I hope that isn't right. And that other dip (you are probably hitting it) looks like about 2.0v. I hope that isn't right either, as that is huge.

@BillW50: I assume it was rather HUGE. I figured out that I could make a .csv file and by the time my brain clicked on that I was able to capture a "dip" down to 2.75V - I adjusted down the preheat (set the ramp to '1') and normal power down. It was on 40/30 and now on 30/25.

I can see that I'm going to have to fine tune my builds even further down in power requirements to work with this mod and battery.

Both my YiHi and Dicodes mods will show the "dip" on the battery indicator, oddly the Pressa100 ignores battery voltage while firing and never shows the "dip".

Currently the RED one (the chart) has a 24AWG NiFe48 build which I may replace with ether a 30AWG NiFe48 flat wire or I'll wait for some 28AWG NiFe48 flat wire to arrive. The Pressa100 currently has a 1.0 Ohm 30AWG flat wire build in it and I'm very much liking the performance of that one.

Just a couple weeks now for me on these, my first DNAs, and I felt that way as well. Especially that battery sag.

Have to ask... what battery(s) are you using?

No kidding! I always knew it was there but that battery sag is HUGE!

The Black one had/has a Basen and the Red one had a undescript (seller claimed it was a Sony as the lettering/numbering started with "SE") green wrapped battery. Both now have Basen's in them.

I pulled the tank on the Black one and swapped it with a Lemo2 with a 6 wrap 30AWG NiFe flat wire build of 0.52 ohms. This build requires much less power and hence has much less droop.

I'll see how they hold up as the battery gets drained.

Are they the Basen Black? (not sure if there are more than two or three)

I'm okay with the Green Efest I have for now, it's actually a 20A CDR, but the Red is only 15.
I wish major vendors wouldn't sell those. :(

But I've had the Basen on the shopping list for a week or so... hard to find though (LiIon only so far).
NONE to date are living up to what I consider the CDR/mAh balance potential of the 26650, but the Basen Black appears to be the clear frontrunner (the good Sony's are discontinued).

    -----

Do you recall the live V sag readings when you made the graph you posted?
As Bill said... that don't look right. o_O

I've had a red one since 0 day, and haven't been shocked once. Just make sure the center screw is below flush on the battery cap. If you use it on an 18650 you will have to screw it in even further.

Likewise, when I saw that video, stuck my pinky on that screw while firing, and it has not shocked me, think as long as the screw is snug against the battery, then won't get shocked, if not snug, then that is user error.

Green Brillipower in mine and working like a charm. I was looking for a yellow AWT, but none to be found anywhere local. I have never been shocked either.

It is possible that his board screw was loose. Since he was running it at 75W I think, there might be a remote possibility he was pulling 20A+ through his little finger when he bridged the loose connection and battery cover.

I don't watch him usually as I don't really care for his reviews.
