I have moved on from Kanthal to stainless/titanium, so I will take your word for it and be on the lookout for an older physicist-looking character to steer clear of for the first few rounds of a comp :)

You'll do better not wrapping the parallel wires. A twisted pair has ~75% the surface contact area as the same pair laid flat.

So as a follow up..... My last tank build finally gave up the ghost and I popped in the twisted coil from my OP. After it was wicked and the tank filled, my IPV D2 reads it at 0.68 ohms. Even at just 25W and 4.12V, this thing is chucking clouds everywhere and the flavor is really decent. I may try to slowly bump it up to 30 or 35 but right now, I'm satisfied at 25. This is the best I've had a tank perform yet. I love being twisted. :D
