Hello everyone,

I've been curious about vaping for quite a while, but about two weeks ago I decided to try it as soon as I had some money that didn't have to go to bills. Well I finally got some cash, and yesterday I (very fortunately!) found ECF and started reading.

My wife and I have both been smoking analogs for nearly 10 years. I'm currently smoking Marlboro lights (1/2 pack a day) and she prefers Marlboro blend #27 (1 pack a day). We both agree that:

  • Size of the device does not matter to us. Actually, we don't really want any of the really small models.
  • We want good battery life (frequent charging sounds irritating).
  • We also want a decent sized cart for less frequent refilling. (Dripping later, perhaps.)
  • We don't want a PV that is hard to draw from.
  • We think we would prefer a PV that produces a good amount of vapor.
Then there's the points with which we're unsure/confused:

  • Throat Hit. I'm thinking this is something we'll have to experiment with in order to find what suits us. But, how big a factor is the PV itself and how much of it is the juice?
  • Refilling. Are most/all carts refillable, or only certain ones?
I'm leaning toward a DSE-801. What I've read so far seems to suggest that it meets most of our criteria. Would you agree with that? Do you know of a PV you think might suit us better? Any insight would be most welcome!

Take a look at the Rivas at Liberty Flights. That might be a better choice.801s can be a little leaky and have short battery life.I started with one a long time ago and almost gave up,lol.

Agree, Get a 510 Riva from liberty flights, and boge low resistance cartomizers. Remember to use the 20% coupon in the upper left if you go with liberty flights. Battery life is about 6-8 hours with the low resistance cartos.

I'm with Keyzgirl. Take a look at the Riva egos at Liberty Flight. $29.00 for the Lite Bundle.

Another option would be the Riva with the large battery recommended here
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ask-veterans/197114-riva-510-vs-ego.html#post3447063

I'd suggest a couple boxes of boge 2.0 cartomizers. Joogler has them on sale and you get a bottle of juice with each box. Also pick up a couple drip tips.

I'd make sure to have at least 30 ml of juice to start. My sister smoked Marlboro and I got her Tampa from Vapor Station. My neighbor also smokes marlboro (or lights, forget which) and I order her some Backko from Backwood Brew.

Good luck!

I'd also have to agree with what suggestions have been presented. With the riva or the ego you can also get an echo-e carto that holds about 2.5ml of juice but that will be a little further down the road for you. I just went from the KR808d-1 to an echo and love it. The echo won't be a choice for you because you mentioned dripping as a possiblility in the future. The echo is an automatic battery but these 1300mah batteries last me almost two days, the down side is they take 9 hours to recharge but that's why you get two in the kit.

I would suggest getting a kit for you and a kit for your wife. You can never have enough batteries.

+1 for the Riva I have a 510 and love it. Thinking about ordering a 901 kit just to try it. The riva has a nice long life if I completely drain it it will last about 10-12 hours if I change when it starts taking longer draws to get my smoke it lasts about 8-10 hours. I bought a standard 510 kit and almost gave up before I got my Riva batts.

Either way good luck with your search and welcome to ECF

You're kidding! I wonder why it takes to long to charge the batteries? I still might get one but that's a long time. Wow!

I have no experience with the riva others have suggested, but it is similar to what I have. I have been using the ego for about ten months. Liberty flights has I think three different kits. The two I can think of off the top of my head are 650 mah batteries and 900 mah batteries.

Someone suggested some boge cartomizers, which I have found to be a pita to fill, but others have had good luck with them.

My suggestion would be to get the ego or the riva kit. The higher the mah the longer it will last between charges. Then I would suggest either the type B t-atomizers (ego-t type b) and carts because they can hold a lot of liquid or the mega atomizer and mega carts because they also hold a lot of liquid. I have experience with both. Since you are new, the mega atty and mega carts are probably better as the t style requires some more maintenance as I have found out recently. The megas are also pretty easy to fill, but you have to be careful not to overfill or it will leak.

I don't know how much cost matters, but there is some inexpensive juice out there at like $7 a bottle from vaporrenu.

All of this info is off the top of my head so I hope it helps.

I'm not kidding, they take 9 hours because they designed them to only charge at 150mah so that the battery will last longer (as in extending it's lifetime).

I'm finding two is enough when one last me two days, I just make sure when I switch to immediately start charging the other one. I really like it. I'm glad I can still use my 808 cartos on it. I still use my 808 when I want to try a different flavor but don't want to fill 3ml in a fresh echo carto.

I can't help you on the ego or ego-t because I haven't owned either one.

Thanks to all for your replies. We've looked at your suggestions, especially the Riva 510 from Liberty Flights. It looks like we'll probably get two of those for our first vaping experience. I can't wait to try it!

I'm not sure what the difference is between the Riva 510 Special Edition bundle and the Riva 510 Lite bundle. They both have 750mAh batteries. The "SE" has a slightly lower resistance atty which, if I understand correctly, means it draws a little bit more power (and runs a little bit hotter). Can anyone shed a little light on the differences between these two kits?

I think the only diffence is the color of the accents. When the SE first came out it was higher voltage, but now the riva's are all the same. The SE has chrome accents while the lite has gold. Also wanted to add that the .2 difference in ohms will probably be negligable since most cartomizers and attys have a tolerance of .3. Make sure you grab some boge cartomizers to try also, and a syringe will help in filling them, but its not completely necessary.

I got the ego as my firet pv. I would really give that a look before you decide. They produce tons of vapor and throat hit. If you get the 1100 batteries (at least two) which comes with the kit they last around twelve hours between charges. The 510 kits don't have as long a battery life and you will wind up charging more often Liberty Flights has three different kits and you can use the coupon code in the upper left hand corner to get twenty percent off I would definately get extra atties or cartomizers whichever you are going to use Another option would be the ego-T which elimates the dripping and filling

Those rivas are way cheap, i've never used one myself but many have. I love V4L and would recommend them to anybody. Very cheap, Fast shipping and if you get the XL's they will definately last all day. They can be reffered to as 808's . Its a 2 piece system so there is less to worry about. Goodluck and welcome !
