These tobacco control geniuses think it's a good idea to cap nicotine in cigarettes AND e-cigs, pushing 11.6 million adults back to smoking or ineffective cessation methods because 2.14 million youth vape at least once a month and just 640,000 vape daily.

They point to the UK, which has a scientifically-baseless cap at 20 mg/mL, but ignore that nicotine cap has clearly resulted in a thriving illicit market for sketchy vapes with higher nicotine strengths and larger tank sizes.

They say NRT "delivers nicotine into the body without exposure to other harmful chemicals found in e-cigarettes," but that's only if people actually CHOOSE to use NRT. Unlike NRT, e-cigs have been shown to help people quit even if they didn't intend to.

Even more ridiculous, they state that because actual cigarettes will no longer have the same nicotine levels as before, e-cigarettes at higher strengths will no longer be needed. As if people won't want/need the nicotine because of a government-mandated limit.

I don't get it, smokers smoke for the nicotine. So if getting nicotine is the intention, a cigarette with less nic will make people smoke less, or more??

"This menthol ban will flood the streets, especially Black & Latino communities, with unregulated products, and if you think the products are unhealthy now, wait until the unregulated products are pushed into our communities."

Study suggests male teen smoking MAY increase risk of asthma, obesity and wheezing in their children. While teen smoking is declining (thanks to vaping,) and despite the fact that smoking is far more harmful than vaping, nicotine as the POSSIBLE cause has only been seen in a few animal studies, and vaping wasn't even part of this study, one co-researcher’s take-away from the study was that "we need to act now" against vaping.

Makers of Blu e-cigs accused FDA of failing to perform required analyses before issuing denials (at least regarding their unflavored products) and the D.C. Circuit agreed, becoming the 2nd court of appeals to find the FDA pulled a "surprise switcheroo."

FDA "is drowning in its own minutiae to the point where scientists are largely unable to step back and look at the bigger picture inhabited by people—adults who don’t need scientists to tell them whether or not menthol provides them with a benefit."

Under the proposed law, anyone caught vaping (even nicotine-free) will be subject to a fine of 5,000 taka--about $46. Extremely harsh, considering the average MONTHLY wage for the low-skilled workers who are most likely to smoke is about 5,210 taka.

“In regard to tobacco harm reduction, the question is not whether nicotine has any harm but rather how harmful is nicotine relative to tobacco. Given that tobacco smoke is exceptionally harmful, anything that can reduce smoking will have health benefits to both the individual and society. Nicotine, the chemical itself, is addictive, but from a pharmacological perspective, when used as intended through properly regulated means, the balance of evidence shows that it has minimal harm. Therefore, nicotine is an excellent means for tobacco harm reduction as it can combat smoking, the largest cause of preventable deaths worldwide.”

“South Africans, as much as anyone, deserve the best public health legislation, and for it to be drafted in their own interests based on the circumstances of South Africa. They should not become a test bed for extreme or ideologically motivated proposals promoted by unaccountable foreign activist organisations.”

To "combat smoking," France plans to ban products that can REDUCE smoking, because they are "giving bad habits to young people."

That makes as much sense as banning seat belts because they give young people the bad habit of driving more recklessly.‍♂️

They studied RATS, not humans. However, it should be noted that the sperm count with cigarette smoke exposure was 9.6% lower than the control group, while vaping was just 3.5% lower. Smoking was also worse for testicle size. Researchers then misrepresent vaping as being promoted as "harmless" when it's actually promoted as HARM REDUCTION, which their own study appears to support!

"Despite no association with e-cigarette use alone for any outcome..."

The effects were found only with DUAL USE, which means those participants were STILL SMOKING. A more accurate headline? "Dual Use of Both Cigarettes and E-Cigarettes Has Higher Likelihood of Ocular Symptoms."

In a letter organized by The R Street Institute, a group of public policy and tobacco harm reduction organizations — including CASAA — congratulated them on the formation of the caucus and asked policy makers and influencers to “continue to invest in prevention and cessation, and get serious about exploring harm reduction” and “for a paradigm shift from well-intentioned but harmful prohibitionist policies.”

After the California flavor ban, "illicit flavored tobacco product sales have increased while state revenues have decreased, products not covered by the ban have entered into the marketplace and the rate of cigarette smoking remains unchanged."

Per EU4Snus on Twitter: “The Swedish government, with support of Sverigedemokraterna (Sweden Democrats,) propose a 20% decrease in snus tax starting in November 2024 and an increase of the cigarette tax with 9%. This is another example of Swedish intelligent harm reduction principles. Relative risk taxation!”

The citizens of Multnomah Co. will now have reduced access to life-saving products because of hysteria over an imaginary "youth vaping epidemic" that has so tragically caused . . . RECORD LOW smoking rates. Meanwhile, flavor bans have INCREASED smoking.

This study found changes that "mimic" those seen in COPD and have the "potential" to cause inflammation and tissue damage. However, they rely on a FALSE PREMISE there's a "perception that e-cigarettes are SAFE" rather than HARM REDUCTION and didn’t bother to compare their results to cells exposed to SMOKE.

Meaning, researchers failed to investigate whether or not the effects from vapor were far less than what they’d have found with smoke. Considering many with COPD who switch to vaping report that their symptoms lessen or even disappear altogether, failing to also consider the harm reduction potential of vaping compared to smoking is highly irresponsible.
