US to Spain; If I get hit, I have to pay an additional 22% of the combined item+shipping total.
Not apple to apples, but living on a island is different. (shrug emoji)

Living in the peninsula is the same.
Last time i got hit was with a Caliburn i won from a giveaway, they dropped a note in my mailbox that said to drop by the post office instead of delivering the package to my home so i knew something was off.
When i got there they told me i had to pay about 26 euros,so that was like 2 euros more than the actual contents of the package.
Told them i wasn't accepting the package and after a ''wait'' period they have to keep the package there they send it back to the sender.
Sometimes it's just bad luck that they choose your package (don't have the manpower to look at them all) or maybe the sender low balled the value when they sent it and that is why your package can be singled out.
Sent a pm on the 30th of November to the ''company'' that did the giveaway and still no reply.
No biggie thou,i don't use those type of devices.
But yeah Like Izan mentioned ''if you get hit'',just depends if they choose your package or not or if the pricing is wrong on the declared value, either of those can be the reason for getting hit.
Woke up to The following message from FedEx this morning:
IN TRANSIT
International shipment release
ANCHORAGE, AK
Looks like I got too worried and made too much noise too soon. Just a routine random customs check. It does show there's nothing illegal about bringing in coils and tanks.
Good news then, your package is on it's way
