Heat or Throat Hit - What Makes It For You?

So, I was discussing this with a physics friend about throat hit and heat, does anybody know what the math is between 'throat hit' and the heat of the vapor coming out of your atomizer?

Case in point, physics friend tried my ProVari+R91 rig and instantly coughed. He tried my old setup, a Vision spinner and cartomizer and didn't have a single cough and blew a respectable cloud. He much like, wow. It could be the juice, which was a 100% VG juice on the Vision spinner, and 60/40 on the R91 (same nic level), but that led to a discussion about heat capacity. Yeah, physics majors seem to be a bit more more fun than lit majors. :)

Not to bore you with specifics, has anybody done the math on how much heat a coil produces, or is the 'throat hit' an uncharted territory?

It seems to me, by a small amount of experimentation, the R91 has very cool hits. That is, the exhale is much cooler than body temperature. If nothing, then we'll do some hard science, .....!

My experience has been that the higher the Wattage (Power) the stronger the throat hit (and the warmer the vape).

Using Ohms Law: P = E2/R

Using this calculator just plug in the voltage and ohms you are vaping on your different rigs and compare the resulting Wattage or Power. http://www.the12volt.com

I'm no expert so hopefully you will get some more responses.

I am assuming the R-91 with the 60-40 juice is 60PG and 40VG? PG will increase TH, and so will some flavors. Obviously a Kayfun style tank is going to give a much more intense vape than a run of the mill clearomizer. Newbies to vaping, especially if they are still smokers are very sensitive to vapor until they get used to it.

Speaking of personal experience, I used to crave TH much more than I do now. I have discovered that I much more value good flavor and vapor. I also prefer a cooler vape. I do know that if I put a .8 ohm coil in my KFL, load it with cinnamon red hot juice, and vape it at 4 volts, it will make me cough! What I am trying to say is there are a lot of factors and variables involved with TH.

Personally, the heat of the vapour depends on my setup. when I first tried a protank, I noticed it was much warmer than my previous top coil tanks. Same liquid, close resistance and voltage. You'd think top coils would be warmer, with the vapour having less space to travel, but mine have been much cooler than the protank and the nautilus.

I think you'll also get a big difference in temperature based on your battery. For example, when I first got the VAMO, I noticed it was significantly hotter, even when using the same tank on my ego. Same voltage setting, same tank, but a hotter vape on the VAMO. Even in RMS mode, it was slightly warmer. Mean output was obviously scorching the liquid though.

EDIT: As for throat hit, I find the heat actually ruins it. There's apparently different kinds of throat hits, but heat definitely doesn't do it for me. You can have cold vapour and still get substantial throat hit from nicotine.
