I smoked 50-60 hand-rolled smokes (euro tobacco, no filter) per day for 37 years. That's pretty hard core, I think! And tried countless times to quit without lasting success. Quitting turned me into a psychotic, angry, depressed mess every time. People hated me whenever I tried to quit.

So...tl;dr:
If you decide on a KGO, this is the best deal I know of; free shipping too. Comes with a pack of BOGE cartos (usually about $7-7:50 separately) and a 36 ml bottle of juice, which is a goodly amount. You'll want to try smaller/sample sizes of various juices to find what works for you.
Elite Vaporworks KGO Starter Kit with Boge LR Cartomizers - KGO

I vape 24 mg or 32 mg juice, anything lower leaves me wanting a smoke. Major TH + really tasty flavor is of paramount importance to me.
I feel fantastic, and I still smoke some, even though they taste nasty but my addict brain still gets in control sometimes! However I've gone from 50-60 smokes per day, to fewer than five per day, and have gone up to three days without a smoke. Which is huge for me. Major harm reduction. :)

I don't mean to pick on puffy but there is a point I'd like to expand upon. Buy 4 of those batteries. Or a bigger battery device for at home. This is all cheap imported product that we're buying from the cheapest place and quality control is not awesome. I've had 1/3 of mine die. Buy cartomizers like they are free. Set yourself up for success.

Yes, this too! Always have back-ups for your back-ups. I have two KGO kits and just ordered a third. No problems with any of the batteries yet, but I screwed up a charger, possibly by over-tightening one of the batts.

Also when I first started I went on a juice-shopping spree but forgot to buy enough cartos (separate one for each flavor is best) and I haven't gotten into dripping yet. You can't have enough cartos (or whatever you plan on using, lots of choices out there.) I like BOGES and the 1.7 ohm Resurrectors which hold a ton of juice and provide a very nice, strong vape.

Apollo has a SS vtube for $74 a full kit. That is the best deal yet. All you would do is buy one more batt. RTD.com has good prices and get a AW imr 2000mah batt. I know this is your first PV but 2 and a half years ago I wish I would have had one. You can start at 3.7 volts and then move up. You can get that great th.

Hoping to get some advice for starting up.

So I smoke around 2 packs/day (for over 20 years). Recently tried a disposable ecig bought at a 7-11 and it was pretty good. Taste was fantastic and it did reduce craving. It seemed a bit weak and unsatisfying, though.

-d

I haven't been at it as long as some of the fine folks here at this forum and I FINALLY quit analogs just this April 23rd but I was also a 2 1/2 pack a day full flavor smoker for almost 30 YEARS and I successfully quit with a Kgo and a lot of 24 mg juice.

I am a coffee drinker and Mom and Pops "Coffee Creme" 24 mg. juice got me through several early morning cravings when I first tossed my smokes in the trash.

It actually ended up being quite a bit "easier" than I thought it would be.

Good luck to you and DON'T give up.

Apollo is also offering a 30% the Vtube right now so if the lava tube type is the way you want to go, 30% is a lot of money saved, for juices and such ;)

I'll second this as a great kit from a really responsive vendor. I have 2 black Mini's (one mine and one for my son) and I just ordered a SS Mini as at $73 shipped it's a great unit at a great price. Being able to stock up on cheap batteries is a REAL good thing.

Hmmm, I'm going to edit this as I just discovered Apollo only includes 1 battery with the kit now and it used to come with 2. Having a single battery is all but useless as what do you use while it's charging? I have been very happy with Apollo, but scrimping on the batteries is not a good thing - I'll not recommend this kit again...

Another vote for the KGO with XL low-resistance single-coil cartos. Order a variety of nicotine levels because some people need 30-36mg while others are happy with 18-24mg. There's not a direct correlation between smoking habits and nic levels; some former lights smokers need 36mg and some 2-PAD full-flavor smokers can quit with 18mg... there's not much rhyme or reason to it. I suspect that it has a lot to do with how each individual person actually smoked but I'm not sure.

I would not suggest the Ego because the voltage is too low. If you're looking at a pen-style ecig the 808D-1 model like the ones sold at Vapor4Life or the Volt are far better in terms of throat hit than the Ego. It's not just the size of the battery that matters, the voltage is also very important. A bigger battery at a higher voltage is a win-win, thus the recommendations you frequently see for the KGO, Epower, and other true 3.7+ volt units.

One thing that a lot of people forget to mention to people getting ready to vape for the first time is that you drag on an e-cigarette a bit differently than you do an analog (regular cigarette). With an e-cigarette you end up dragging slower and for a longer time.

I agree this is very important for newbs to understand. It makes all the difference.
For the OP - I concur the KGO kit is the way to go. Sweetvapes has a kit that comes with five EMDCC cartos and I find that combination knocks it out of the park (about $60). I like a stong mint juice myself and that has got me to just less than a year off the stinkies!

Somewhere out there
Here is a just a little more info on the ego types and variable voltage, the VV egos, aka the the Twist or there is another version called a VV ego, gives you the ability to vary your vape volts so you can go low 3.2, 3.7 and 4.2 on 3 setting VV ego and the ego Twist gives you 3.2 up to 4.8 volts. The reason for the variations of volts is how the juice tastes. I find fruits for me taste the best at lower volts, the tobaccos, chocolates, coffees taste better at higher volts. So with a Low Resistance cartomizer, 3.2 to 3.7 is great for lighter flavors. 3.7 to 4.2 are great for tobaccos, chocolates, etc that have heavier flavor. With a fixed volt device you do not have the option of tweaking your settings like you do on a VV device. Most all vapers end up with a higher end VV device eventually and the reason is because of vaping options. Some love higher voltage for their juices, some love lower voltage on some juices. So a for a new person to get their feet wet the ego Twist is a great lower end priced unit.
Now if a cig look alike is important then I would go with Halo G6 or Volt, they are great KR 808's. I quit with a G6, now I have a Provari, also have several ego VV's for out and about. They are very portable. You always need back ups, a Twist is a great back up even when you get up into the higher end VV's. You also need back ups for your back ups, so always a have some type of PV to use. Have fun!! bnrk

Hi Doowod,
I'm a newb myself (since Feb 12). But I smoked about pack a day for 30 years. Regardless of the set up I would strongly suggest starting your base of juices with menthol (that will be an adventure in and of itself, lol). In addition the ego set-ups there are KRD808s that work excellently. You might want to look into Volt's XL batteries, they are inexpensive and the cartomizer is sooo easy. Here's the link: Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | Volt X2 Battery Passthrough - Accessories. Of course they have a warranty and Smokless Image has fantasic customer service. Just an option. Good luck to you!

Howdy,

I'm a new vaper within the last 3 months. I learned the hard way that there are much more robust vaping tools out there that need a look at. Some of these devices can be pricey, or appear to be pricey at first, but if you are done with burning tobacco like I was (after 34 years), pay the piper and get the good stuff. If you don't, they will just stay idle once you find the right combo that works for you. I went the conventional e-cig route at the start, then went the inexpensive Lavatube style route, now I just ordered my ProVari which I should have done from the start. I'm as frugal as frugal can get, but learned that it can have it's downfalls. I now will have a ProVari for the house, and also currently have an eGo 1000mAh passthrough option that I can use connected to my PC and also take it out with me without causing a ruckus with those not privy to 'the cure'.

Bottom line, don't skimp on the tools that will last you longer, give you better results, are more adaptable, and will ultimately save your life. That's my take for what it's worth.

I just quit analogs also few months back, and this is how it worked out for me

510 cig sized batts rechargable , cartos = way too much time changing and filling cartos charging batts every hour
900 ego type batteries 2, tanks cartos other misc etc= batteries lasted long enough, never really satisfied with the vape
Bolt and dual coil carto tank= great vape but less great as batts wear down always need fresh batts, although only changed once a day
right now I have a silver bullet 2 18500 batts , a KICK (the key) and a caromator tank with Boge cartos = VERY GOOD vape start to finish every vape the same as last tanks hold juice for all day and batts last all day

my advice dont waste hundreds on all the other stuff , go for tyhe ultimate vape off the bat, provari, darwin or mod with a kick, although i dont have a provari or darwin posts on here speak for themselves

You're welcome. Unless you're looking for longer battery life I would not purchase the SB as they are almost identical except for batt life and cheaper batts. If anything you'll prolly want to look at upgrading the delivery system/ cartomizers with either a tank or V2 Clearomizers. I began with the cartos and soon got tired of filling them. I then bought Smok Teck 1.7 single coil XL cartos aka Resurectors. Next I moved up to a tank with cartos which meant I only had to refill the tank twice per day. The cartos MUST be pre punched. Can either be bought pre punched or do it yourself with nail and hammer or 1/4" saddle valve- good for about 50 holes. Cartos lasted about 2 weeks. Am now using the V2 Stardust Clearomizers and very pleased with the results. VV PVs are coming down in price and that would prolly be your next choice. But first enjoy and get used to vaping and then decide. I know you're gonna LOVE the Kgo as it packs quite the punch. I've tried all sorts of cartos on my Kgo and have found the Smok Tech 1.7 to be the best performer. All IMHO and I wish you the best of luck.
Happy Vaping.

So much good advice, taking some time to soak it all in. Burned through a "2 pack" disposable ecig in 2 hours yesterday. Ordered a kGo kit with some Boge cartos and menthol juice, but have a feeling I'll be bumping up to a Silver Bullet or ProVari at some point. Thank you all for your responses, they have all been helpful.

I second this.

Also I have to laugh...several months ago (despite my join date I've only been vaping a little over 3 months) I would have read vapoor eye er's post and my eyes would have glazed over by the second sentence. Simply gibberish.
Now - I understand this! Whee! :D
PS: I haven't "graduated" past a KGO because I've been quite happy with my (three) kits. If you want to try VV, search the forum for an EGO Twist....I'm ordering one. Cheap, cheap way to give VV a try.
