Hello All,
I am a new member to the forum. I have been vaping for more than two years and I am always trying to get smokers to convert. I carry around a tube mod so this makes for a great conversation starter. I have already converted a few people, and I am genuinely happy explaining vaping to curious passers by.
I have lurked on this forum for a while and finally decided to join. I take notice of legislative issues because this is obviously a hot topic with large moneyed interests pushing their agendas. I notice a lot of people post their letters to their representatives and senators making their case. This is good, our elected officials should know that their voting record will be closely watched. However, I am concerned because I see some letters with a statement along the following lines:
"I agree that nicotine should justifiably be taxed in a reasonable way, but....."
"Electronic cigarettes should be regulated in a reasonable way, but...."
This is counter to the cause. People who support vaping should not be writing statements such as these to their representatives. I am not an organizer, I have not written my officials and I am not involved in the movement in any way beyond what I explained above. But can the people who are organizing please urge concerned citizens to be more forceful and careful in their wording? If this were a negotiation, the above statements would give the upper hand to the other party.
The truth is, we don't need any taxes. We don't need large, overarching regulation. We simply do not need any changes that move vaping in the wrong direction. What we need is the acceptance of factual evidence and a rational thought process around vaping. When communicating with office holders, the message ought to be clear and unyielding: NO INCREASED REGULATION OR TAXATION, OR I WILL VOTE AGAINST YOU IN THE NEXT ELECTION.
Well, that's my 2 cents. Happy to hear yours.
