This is my first post. I smoked for 42 years, until February 2, 2015. That was the day my vaporizer arrived. I had one further cigarette on the 2nd, and not one since, nor any cravings. What surprises me the most is that I have had virtually no withdrawal symptoms. I can't figure out why. It's not like I want to get sick, but I was fully expecting it to happen, and so far... nothing. I am also just about completely off the e-liquid. After about three weeks, it got so my throat would clamp up and not accept any vapor going down. I went a few days without any nicotine, and still had no ill effects. I haven't had a nicotine fit, nor any kind of head rush from inhaling the vapor (I started at 2.4% and went down very quickly to 1.2). So I'm just going to vape what I have left, and that will be it for me.

I can't believe how easy this has been. People have been saying for years that trying to quit nicotine is harder than quitting [a nasty substance whose name begins with 'h' censored by the software] This is why I am baffled by my lack of unpleasant experience having stopped it. But hey, I'll gladly take it! I quit cold turkey once in the '80s, and what I know now is that while I was going through withdrawals, I also came down with the flu. I have never been that sick before or since. I thought it was the consequences of immediately stopping my intake. I was off cigarettes for maybe a month before I relapsed... hey, I'm all clean now, I can just have one... Since then, I hadn't tried to quit again because I was terrified to get that sick again. I know that the patch, gum, lozenges and whatever else Big Pharma sells has an over 90% failure rate, so I never gave them the time of day.

So far, this has been a pretty amazing experience for me. As of now, I have gone through a period of no nicotine longer than any time since before I had to shave every day.
:vapor:(I love that emoticon!)

Welcome to ECF. Congratulations on quitting smoking by vaping. I smoked for 46 years and vaping was the only way I was able to quit. That was over 1.5 years ago. You will go through some psychological withdrawal symptoms for a while so I would keep your vaping gear and several bottles of eliquid in maybe 6mg and 12mg strengths for when those times do come. And they will come.

Many people here find vaping an enjoyable hobby and upgrade their original equipment. I still vape and have upgraded gear and now make my own coils. I still vape to not smoke, but I have found a setup I also enjoy greatly, and eliquids that please me.

Stay active here and keep posting, even if you are not smoking or vaping today. The support you will receive here is invaluable. Look around the forums. There is a lot of info here for the taking.

What are you using for gear and what liquids are you vaping?

Here is a thread that has lots of links to explore.

Thanks for the kind welcome and link to resources!

Before buying a vaporizer, I read pages and pages of information and watched hours and hours of video reviews before settling on one device. I am using a V2 Pro Series 3. I started with two flavors of their e-liquid, Vanilla and Sahara, both at 2.4, based upon what other people said about them. I should have started at 1.8 instead, as I found the 2.4 too harsh, and I was seeing hardly any vapor come out. On further investigation, I learned that it was because of the ratio of PG to VG in their liquid.

Then I went to a shop in town and the guy recommended some flavors by Pink Spot. So now I'm vaping G-Spot (grape) (my fave), Caramel Apple, Pink Spot and Happy Ending flavors. I ended up diluting the V2 2.4% Vanilla with 1.2 Happy Ending. Now it makes more vapor and is less harsh, and less potent. As it turns out, I don't like tobacco-flavored liquid at all, which their Sahara is.

I don't think I am going to become a convert to vaping instead of smoking. Anyone reading this - don't let anything I say deter you from doing what you enjoy. Leonard Nimoy quit smoking 30 years ago, but he still died of COPD from it. If I've got myself into a position where I don't have to put any kind of foreign substance in my lungs anymore, and could totally go without doing it, then why not do that? I think I owe my lungs the luxury of taking in nothing but oxygen for the rest of my life because of what I did to them for all but 13 years of the time I've been alive.

Hello Mojo and welcome to ECF. Congrats on stopping the analogs. However, we all know that the reason you quit wasn't due to vaping. Remember, Big Tobacco and our Uncle Sam tells us that vaping is not a stop smoking device (queue sarcasm emoticon). I'm in the same boat as you as far as withdrawal symptoms. Well other than the no sleeping thing. Keep up the good work and ShariR is right, there is a wealth of support on this forum. Have a good day and vap on!
