Hi I used to smoke about 1-1/2 packs a day

I quit but dang, I really suffered mentally because of it! what a mess!

I Ended up on mental meds which I probably needed and also drank more than I did before

I'm thinking nicotine wasn't that bad after all, think my body craves it-is that so bad? no imho

I do NOT want to smoke again, but do want nictotine - is vaping the best option?

if so, any advice on a vape system for this situation would be appreciated (something easy to use. even a throwaway recommendation to start)

ps I would freak if I started back on nicotine and ran out for any reason - I would like something that offers an "emergency" backup of any kind

thanks

I can only speak to my own experience, I smoked for 40 plus years about a pack to pack and a half each and every day what I did not know then and do believe to be true today is that I was indeed self medicating probably to assist with minor depression utilizing nicotine and probably the action and oral gratification of the action. I quit quite by accident (long story) but started with an evod and 12 mg per ml tobacco flavour and also root beer within a few weeks I bought an eleaf Istick 20 watt and a nautilaus mini tank and a month or so later I upped the nicotine to 18 mg per ml the first 5 or six weeks I smoked decreasing amount of cigarettes until I could hardly stand the taste and could barely finish them finally said why bother- that was 3 months ago have no desire whatsoever to have a smoke currently vape using eleaf Istick 20 watts with nautilaus mini at 12 mg per ml nicotine and recently been using a dripper at 3 mg nic for plus plus flavour some vape shops seem to be quite knowledgeable if you have any close by, of course if you are in Nova Scotia you can not try the juices but in more enlightened parts of North America you perhaps can try the juices -best to you

As a former smoker if you are missing your nic and the habit of smoking then vaping is the way to go. Vaping , I believe, has helped more people quit smoking and stay off smoking then all other cessation methods combined. As far as what to start there are a few options depending on your budget and where you live as some countries are more strict on vaping. Little devices that look like cigs you see at gas stations are garbage. I dislike ego/ spinner (names of batteries) but there are some that like them and they are cheaper. The next step up would be like what the above poster mentioned an Istick and a nautilus. Mods can get very expensive and the options we have is amazing but also over whelming at first. The Istick is a great little device from what I've heard but they have the battery built in. Other devices you can take the batteries out and charge separately. For simplicity I'd suggest the istick/ nautilus route but if you're going long term getting something where you can change the batteries out is the better investment. Finding a liquid can be really tough. In my area B&M (brick and mortar) shops are common and allow you to try liquids before buying. I would say avoid tobacco flavors if you can't sample first. It won't taste like burning tobacco and for me was frustrating. I'm bias towards creams and custards personally. Best of luck and if you decide you do want to try vaping give us a little more info on what country your in, budget and level of commitment you feel and we will try to find more specific suggestions.
