The only meshes I ever thought were any good were the ones with positive pressure to actually hold the cotton against the mesh. Without that they’re not any good. WITH it, however, they are excellent. That may make me the same as you.
You CAN effectively wind your own coils for them by buying really fine 316L stainless steel screen meant for grease traps and cutting it to a square of appropriate size with a pair of yellow airplane shears. The different colors denote which way they cut. Yellow cuts straight.
