Congrats and welcome to ECF. You sound ready! First of all, no matter where you start, it's not where you end up. So, no matter what you buy, it may, sooner or later, become either your backup device, or your "out and about" device. First suggestion is to buy a spinner or Twist batter kit with two different delivery devices. The Evod and MT3 are both excellent imho. These devices often become relegated to backup or out and about devices because we seem to want more power, more battery, more capacity, more flavor, etc. as we continue our JOURNEY. It's the journey that's fun and keeps it all fresh.
Second, I still use the twist/evod combination as my "out with the wife on Friday nights" pv. Perfect size, capacity, look, etc. I have many higher capacity batteries and mods at home with many different setups, but I love the spinner/twist with evod when I'm away. Can't beat this as a start.
Third, I have two eVics and loved each of them as my favorite device. However, using Kanger evod and MT3 tops, I've dropped them twice onto hard surfaces. In both instances they landed wrong, pulled the press fit top off the battery and broke both leads, making them expensive paperweights. I had intended to superglue the top on the second one before it happened to me again, and before I could do that...BANG...another dead eVic. The Evic is by far my favorite display. The interface with the computer allows updates and V2 on the firmware is great...the original firmware...not so great. I understand that they are adding two screws to the top in the future to keep the tops on, but, alas, way too fragile now. I will eventually get these fixed, but I received no help from either vendor that sold them to me.
The cost of one eVic is about 50% more than the single kit I mentioned above. If I were just starting again, knowing what I know, I would purchase a kit with one spinner, one twist, one evod, and one MT3 (the new heads are identical to the Protank, probably saving this much maligned device...and work fine for me). Once you figure out your "hot buttons", i.e., power, capacity, battery life, delivery device, etc., then the move up to a more powerful pv makes sense. No matter where you start, you will probably, like the rest of us, want to experiment with different devices along the way, making your first selection of backup device very important. Like others have said the MyVaporStore.com kit is a great place to start. Get the highest capacity batteries to start, saving replacement costs later. Variable voltage, i.e, spinner and twist, will allow you to find your sweet spot for each juice, delivery device, etc. and is a must. Variable power is nice later, but it doesn't mean much if you don't understand variable voltage to start with.
Anyway, my two cents and advice that I wish I had had the smarts to ask others about, like you are doing, before I jumped in and have invested four figures plus now. Enjoy the journey, welcome aboard, and happy
vaping.
