Really this is going to come down to how much you want to spend, now like I said I started out with something that I paid 20 bucks for and moved to my eVic Primo 2.0 looking back I wish I would have saved the 20 bucks and gone for the Primo, but with the way my luck is I would have hated it and been out 60 instead of 20. You sound like you smoked like I did and sub-ohm is what keeps me off the cigars. Juices are really going to be the problem your taste is your taste what may taste like a nice CAO Gold Maduro to me may be crap to you. So you are going to have to wade through the bad ones to find what you like, the only advice I can give you on that is looking for places that have sample sizes and above all read the reviews and hope for the best. Good luck.

Most of us go through a couple devices before finding the one that works best. I wouldn't worry too much about cost in the beginning since you'll save yourself lots of $$ if you stick with it. I stayed on the simple side w/ low watts etc while lots of people go w/ fancier higher powered devices. It's a matter of taste. Any 'bad' decision you make along the way is more than worth it.

+1 on the iStick/Nautilus combination. It doesn't work for everybody, but it usually works well enough to get them started down the right path. You'll never find a ejuice that tastes like smoking because smoking tastes like burning combustion products and vaping doesn't burn things. You can get a juice that tastes like tobacco smells-- there's a wide variety f flavors around-- but I'd suggest you try something else as well. Any flavor you like is probably available: your favorite soft drink (or harder drink) various fruits and berries, all kinds of baked goods, the list's endless. Good luck and keep talking to us; we can help most people and we always try.

My Mountain
Hi there. I will try to be short in description of my "problem". I'm 35 working as an IT and lately, i got some bad news. After 18 years of smoking, i manage to quit by just saying "this is my last cigarette" a thing which i have never believed to be possible. Before that, i must say that i had like health checks and everything was fine. But after like 2 months of quitting i got the symptoms of diabetes(drinking water and a lot of pee). So got to the doctor and "WOW" my glycemic was to the sky.Basically apart from the water drink feeling i did not experience anything else. But here comes the dose of stupidity. Of course, i have to go to see the doctor and after having a chat with him with questions like " Do you experience eyes sight loss?" or "Is your "dude" working well anymore? well after i finish this chat i was gone directly to the store and buy a pack of cigarettes and smoke 5 of them in like 10 mins. Now i don't blame the doctor or something like that, is just me who i think didn't respond well to the news, even if before i did not feel the need of smoking even if i was near someone who smokes.
Now im not sure if the quitting thing triggered diabetes , i refuse to believe that (anyway is very strange how the glicemy levels works for me , i don't need even pills to reduce it , if i take 10 min walk then everything comes to normal..lol ) but one thing is for sure. I want to quit smoking at least normal cigarettes.
So i really need advice what to get. So I think I'm kinda a heavy smoker doing 1 pack per day(depends on mood, sometimes less and sometimes even more) some friends say i am very strange because I can smoke a cigarette like in 7 seconds(when I'm angry without realizing...lol). I really not like the ideea of liquids with taste of whatever(at least now ) so basssically i need something strong i guees with normal taste of the nicotine ..lol
So if you can help me out what to get will be really appreciated. Regards

Hello and welcome to ECF.

Your thread got difficult to wade through, so I'm going to mAke a quick suggestion.

I've been vaping a while, (more than three years now) and I would recommend an Aspire Zelos for you which comes in a kit with a Nautilus tank.

The coils are inexpensive and easily replaced, the Nautilus is a good mtl (mouth to lung) tank for a beginner and the Zelos has a little "growing" room if you find you need it and good battery life if you find you dont.

All in all, a good beginner kit.

For e liquid you will need to start around 18-24 mg... I would start at 18 and go up only if you find you need to.

You will want to find a vape shop of the brick and mortar variety where you can pay a few quarters and try several of their flavors. This is the absolute best way to find a flavor or two that you find palatable to vape... and you might just be surprised with what that ends up being... but actually taste testing some flavors is the best way to find that out, and many B&M's offer that for a new vaper.

I wish you the best of luck..!

I am not going to suggest any particular mod or juice because quite frankly there are just too many great choices. And a lot of it can boil down to personal preference. What do you think looks good, what feels good in your hand, what flavors taste good to you and so on.

I will second a lot of what some of the others have been saying though. First of all I highly suggest if it is possible to check out some local vape shops. More than one or two if it is possible. I understand in some areas the choices are fairly limited. Like someone else said let us know where you live and maybe someone can suggest one. If you live near toledo ohio I have one that I can highly suggest.

When you go into a vape shop tell them what you told us, and that you want to quit smoking. See how they respond. If they seem interested in your plight and you ask you things like " how much do you smoke, what brand, what is your budget, how long have you been smoking" and stuff like that it might show they have some experience with getting people off of cigs. It used to be every vape shop was dedicated to helping people quit. Not the case anymore. Some cater to hobbyists and cloud chasers. They just want to sell the newest coolest gadget and could care less about your fight to quite smoking.

Second, when you do go to a vape shop look at different stuff. Feel it in your hand, ask how it works, ask what other customers and staff thing about it. And remember, you don't have to spend a ton of money on vape gear. You can if you want, but it isn't required. In the United States you should be able to get a really good beginner set up for under 100 dollars, maybe even half that. And I mean everything you need, like a mod, tank, juice, batteries (if needed). Heck a freakin' Juul could get you off cigs. I wish that thing was out 6 or so years ago when I started. I wouldn't want one at this point in my journey, but 6 years ago it would have been awesome for me. Ok honestly, if someone gave me one now I would probably use it lol.

Third, try as many different flavors as you can. Preferably find a shop that lets you try samples of different flavors they sell. Don't get hung up on emulating cigs or finding a tobacco flavor that tastes like the brand you smoke. It probably won't happen. Cigs taste the way they do because of the burning leaves and paper, it is very hard to simulate that in an e juice. Not that there are not some good tobacco flavors though, there are. But man, there are SO MANY other options too. Try some fruit, pastry, breakfast, whiskey or whatever sounds good to you. Heck maybe watermelon bubble gum might be what hits the spot and gets you to quit smoking. You just never know. And its not just the taste, but the smell. My room right now smells like an IHOP because of what I am vaping. Much better than that icky stale cig smell I can assure you lol.

And don't expect it to work right away, maybe it will, then again maybe it won't. Give it some time and try some different things if you have to. I am pretty sure you didn't like smoking when you first started either. You just stuck with it long enough that you got used to it. Most likely because you didn't want to look like a wuss in front of your buddies, am I right? That isn't a bad thing, we have all been there. Same with drinking, my first shot of whiskey was like drinking gasoline. However I got used to it and started to like it. A bit too much actually he he.

And lastly, we are here for you. If you have problems or questions, or just want to chat chances are someone will always be here to help you out.

Thanks to all for advice. I must admit is kinda hard to choose online as there are so many options and things to understand. So i will pop in in a store and see what come up
maybe find someone here who is close to you and see if they can recommend a shop I just went to three near me do day for that very reason, and one got my money. But really even if you do find a shop make sure you do your research first and do not let anyone sell you something you are unsure about. I mean you are going to spend money on this more than you think, vaping in some ways is worse for your bank account than smoking so many shiny so many things you will end up wanting. When I smoked I collected Zippos now I am collecting RDAs juices, DIY flavors....

Another tip: Not everyone quit smoking who tried vaping...at least not right away. For some it was easy quitting cold turkey, for others it was hard and took multiple attempts to break free from tobacco.

I had smoked 1 pack per day for over 30 years. I tried several times to quit using the gum, patches, lozenges, even hypnosis (twice). Nothing had worked. Out of curiosity I purchased a disposable cigalike. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either; I saw some potential. I research here on ECF and purchased a starter kit and e-liquid.

Then I promised myself, "This is the week that I will quit smoking."

I had one pack of cigarettes left. I vaped as much as I pleased. I knew that I'd probably crave a cigarette, and I did. If I had a bad craving, I vaped more. If that didn't work, I allowed myself 1/2 of a cigarette and saved the rest for the next bad craving. I probably smoked 4 cigarettes a day.

Those 1/2 smoked butts tasted pretty bad, but in the long run that helped me to quit. By the end of the week, the pack was empty and I was no longer craving a cigarette. I grew to prefer the vape over the tobacco. I haven't had (or wanted) a cigarette since. Over 5 years running.

Not saying that will happen for you, just a shared experience. Everyone is different. Chances are if you are truly motivated you will be able to quit completely.

Oh, how I remember the days. For me, I tried vaping when the pens first came out I wanted something to help lessen the cost of smoking and allow me to have my nic in places I could not smoke. It did not take then two years later I charged up my pen and would use it from time to time while gaming during some raids it was better than letting my cigar burn out, but again it never really took then a friend talked me into getting the device she used after waiting for the really long shipping from China I opened the box charged it up and filled the tank and hit it like I hit the pen on keep in mind this was a sub ohm tank and I thought I was going to die from coughing while my friend almost die from laughing. Then I learned I was meant to do a direct lung hit and I was sold. I guess I am lucky I did not quit smoking due to health needs I started vaping just to make things easy when I was in a hardcore gaming raid, but I loved the flavors so much and the clouds even more so I quit. I got my box mod with my Aries tank and have not looked back, well okay I did look back a friend of mine came for a visit a few months ago after he retired from the Coast Guard and on the visit, he brought me a box of Bolivar Royal Coronoas I had to have one so opened the box pulled one out punched the tip went at it. I had maybe five drags and I was done put it out and picked up my mod and that is when I knew I am a vaper now. Before that, I would have sold you my sister for a box of Cubin's and now the box is sitting in my humidor still with only one missing.
