Ahoy!
I've been perusing this forum for a little over a month, as that's about how long I've been implementing my "behavioral upgrade" to vaping.
A late-night infomercial introduced me to e-cigarettes, and I was wholly skeptical towards the sales pitch, but something in the presentation encouraged me to more fully examine what it was about tobacco cigarettes that I enjoyed. I quickly came to realize I didn't like much about traditional cigarettes, except the act of smoking, which was what I understood the e-cigarettes were designed to imitate.
As much as I love computers and the digital age, I still have some strong feelings about purchasing things I can't first touch from people I can't look in the eye. Damn feelings -- they put me at the mercy of my local smoke shop's inventory. Which consisted of exactly two(!!) brands which were BOTH minis. The brand of e-cig hardware the tobacconist suggested for my purchase was based on.... the strength of e-liquid supplied in the different brands' pre-filled cartridges!
It's ALL my own fault. Because I knew I'd be dependent upon the smoke shop's inventory, and I suspected that inventory to be somewhat limited (although I'd hoped for more than two brands, let alone more than 1 type!), I didn't bother to research e-cigarettes/pvs. I assumed that the staff at the shop would be educated about their products and enlighten me.
Anyhow, the experience wasn't all for naught. The mini vaped like a champ. Of course, the carts didn't last as long as estimated on the package, and, for a 2 PAD smoker, charging the battery every 30 minutes was a royal pain. But sensation of smoking was evident and satisfying. I was convinced there had to be better equipment out there somewhere. That's when I (better late than never) began researching.
I promptly discovered the value of DIY juice, and ordered a mixing kit while still suck-charge-suck-charging on my poor, overworked, 1-battery-1-atty in the starter kit, itty-bitty pv, as I continued to learn more about equipment.
I first discovered information and assistance in the forum community at Totally Wicked, perhaps because I started out researching e-liquid before e-cigs, I don't know. Anyhow, it wasn't long after that I found ECF, and I recognized some of the usernames...
Within a week of vaping, I had already graduated from a mini to a Screwdriver MKII. But there was a pricing restructure along with a terrific sale going on, so I couldn't resist trying out a Tornado "pushybutton hookah-doodle" and CE2s. From a 1-atty/1-batt setup and a couple pre-filled cart to preparedness for zombie apocalypse in less than a month... yeah, that's me. I rarely do anything halfway.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for keeping up such a treasure-trove of useful tidbits. They helped me decide what to try and what to avoid, and how to use, clean, and organize my equipment. I heart this vaping community!
Although I appreciated you guys, I was content to remain a reader rather than a participant -- until I came across lolady's original new member thread. I felt what you all felt, and I couldn't get enough of her! One of the links I attempted to take (her blog? I can't remember) wouldn't allow me to view without signing up, so here I am. And, since I'm here, I might as well blame my presence on lolady and sing her praises for:
A) Having such an open mind at her age, to not be so Devoted to Old Ways and Beliefs in order to experience something new with a hopeful attitude. I am so impressed -- the older relatives I have are so opposite in how they approach new things. New things (items, methods, theories, etc) are automatically bad until proven otherwise, for them, and I'm so accustomed to senior citizens Believing this way that I'm just floored by lolady and other older vapers like her.
B) Being such an outstanding author, entertainer, philosopher, psychologist, and teacher. Thank you so much for everything.
I know lolady and some folks like her may prefer a smaller PV. However, I wanted to point out (again, as I'm sure someone has said it before me, but it's worth repeating!) that there are "pushybutton electric hookah-doodles" that can be taken off the leash and used wirelessly, so there's no need to have two kinds of chargers and all that for the same system. My Tornado/Ego manual passthrough can be used plugged in or wireless. Just sayin' it again for the newcomers -- "hookah-doodles" are awesome, and ones that adapt to how you want to use them at any given time are the bomb-diggity.
Peace,
