Ok, to be safe, I used the battery guide and got the 18650VTC5 2600mAh 30A batteries. I use Sony items all the times, so I figured that they would be the best I could get.

There are no authentic VTC5's available ANYWHERE. It has been close to 9 months since anyone has found authentic VTC5's. You can still find VTC3's & VTC4's but no VTC5's. Sony originally was making their VTC5's in Japan (before Fukujimi).. They have since moved their production to the Philippines but no batteries have hit the market yet.

Amazon and Ebay are not the place you should be buying batteries. Post #4

BATTERIES - WHERE TO BUY

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US.

* RTD Vapor
* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics

Hey guys, just wanted to see if I'm correct after reading the ohm's law section I was given above, is it correct, that since I know my voltage is 3.7(V), and my Amps are 30(I), to find my proper resistance, I use the formula V/I=R, or 3.7/30 = 0.1233, but since it is recommended that I use half of the recommended amps listed on the battery, since that number drops over time, and number of charging cycles, that it would end up with 0.061 ohms? Recommended for my coils that is.

I enjoyed your post, what a great opener! :)

The only thing I wanted to say was - those batteries... get rid, man.

Are they blue Trustfire brand?

Thank you for that, I apologize for not replying with a quote, it slipped my mind that you may not know I was thanking you earlier, I do appreciate all the help from everyone, you guys are all great, and I did buy some new batteries, I got the Recommended Hybrids from Sony, the nice 30amp hybrids. The ones I had before definitely would not have worked, I had no idea, I planned on using my old ones, it would have been a serious mistake. Thanks!

So, now, If I an right, I would use this formula, 3.7 x .15 = 0.555, since I would be using half the amps of 30, 3.7 volts for the battery, and a good safe ohm resistance in the coils should be around .555. This should be right no?

hehe, there is so much good info here, it's a good thing that I decided to join, I can imagine that this site has saved countless people their fingers or face:) I know I would have run into problems in several area's at this point, first by using bad batteries. Then by making the coils incorrectly, and finally, by eyeballing the coils from YouTube video's. I am usually very careful in things though, so I knew there had to be more to learn than any one YouTube video could offer, so you guys should be proud of the wonderful amount of useful information that is contained in this forum. I had avoided this for so long, using those ready made disposable tanks for my ego for months. I was worried when I upgraded to the Aspire Nautilus, but those were still Childs play. This is the hard stuff, so I'm amazed as to how much there is to learn. Sadly, I didn't want to go to my local vape shop for help, since I didn't want to pay the high prices on their items. When I saw 150+ dollars for the mod alone, I balked and decided that I'd go eBay all the way.lol Sadly, that kept me from getting their help learning the ropes. I was sure I would struggle to figure things out, but the list of sources I have already been given is amazing. I don't regret avoiding the high prices now, because I'm sure the help here will be more informative than I would have learned with the one time visit to that shop. Now if I could just get over my nerves on making my first bottle of e juice. I have everything there but I'm now terrified to begin.lol

lol, I'm using the ohm formula calculator short form from the first persons guide, and I come up with the .123 that I originally got from doing the math, but that doesn't seem right when the dangers of sub ohm vaping article said that such a low resistance was dangerous and could lead to battery explosion, so I guess I will need to watch some of the video's also, I want to be sure I don't make my e cig mod explode.lol

hehe, I have to tell you Susan, I don't know how you do it, but you definitely stay up to date on all things Vape Related:) Sadly, I had already placed my order for them from a source that I get all my other e cig stuff from, Gulp, on EBay:(lol I guess I'm one of those too trusting types:)lol But thankfully, they aren't expensive, so it's not going to be a terrible loss, so I'll just take it as a lesson learned. I take things for granted on my buying habits online, since I hate to go to town to get anything, so I just usually buy everything from Amazon or EBay, without giving it a second thought. I'll keep this in mind though, as I had already been lured into the idea of getting those original batteries, the purple ones that are claiming to be 35 continuous, which are relabeled lower power batteries. But again, this is the purpose in this type of experience in this forum, to learn what other people know, because while I may know a ton of stuff on science, history, and other techy subjects, it doesn't mean that I have tons of real world knowledge on high quality items, and this is a prime example. Avoiding the purple batteries to fall for a Sony battery that in all likelihood is a KO, wouldn't be a first experience in Ko's for me. I made a double purchase about five or six months back, as I am an avid collector of Masterpiece transformers. I figured that I would save a bit of cash, and instead of buying two figures that I needed from my normal source, Bigbadtoystore, or TFSource, I went ahead and got them on Ebay, only to have them arrive and to see that something was off in the packaging. I looked it up online, and it turned out that I had purchased two Knock Offs, so while I saved around forty to fifty dollar per figure on the normal eighty plus dollar figures, I in actuality had spent seventy dollars on two fake transformers.lol So yeah, learning is something I am doing, slowly and painfully:)ROFL

Ok, just to mention this also, here are the items that I already have, they have already been delivered so I can't change them, so I figured I would run them by everyone, to be sure that things are ok, and to see if there are better/higher recommended brands of these items.

1. My nicotine is from NicVape.com, and as I had mentioned, I got 75mg/ml
2. SVAvapor Flavor Concentrate in Propylene glycol for flavor, and to maximize the amount of liquid I could make
3. My pg vg mix is 60/40 of Food Grade, Kosher, Premium quality, with a picture of a tree in a non descript white label clear bottle

But just curious on the battery charger. I use a four battery at once Li ion battery charger, which plugs into the wall with a cord. Do I need to upgrade to a better name brand, or is this normal generic type charger fine, since it is still for Lithium Ion batteries, as long as I stay in the area while charging? Mine does not have a function where it drains the battery and then charges them, is this ok? It is only a charger with red light for dead battery with green for fully charged.

I have a nitecore intellichagrer i4 its been very good.

You build to what you want and check the batteries your using can handle the amp draw.

So say a 0.5Ω build on a 4.2v fresh battery will be 35 watts drawing 8.4 amps - on a mech mod.
When the battery is at 3.7 volts its 27 watts at 7.4 amps, This is all in the steam site - under battery drain or nay ohms law calculator.
So you8 just get to know what resistance you like within the voltage range of your battery.

ok, reading the article on how sub ohm vaping is dangerous, so I definitely need to re do the formula, since its so low. good articles everyone!

Making sure the battery you use can handle the amps being drawn from it dependant on your builds resistance - for a mech mod.
Also always check your build on a resistance meter or similar to know the resistance and see if any shorts.

Thank you so much for your continued information Wolfenstark, I do appreciate it. I'm sure that by now, the people here have already gotten tired of me:(hehe I just do want to be safe, and as I have seen, from everything I've read today, this upgrade is incredibly hard to comprehend in one day.lol Now, I only joke, there is no way that I would be able to figure this out in a day. I've read most of the articles I've had recommended, and I feel like I'm drowning in the deep end of a pool, when I thought I would be in the kiddie section. Its amazing just how in depth this is. First, the battery issue alone is terrifying. At the moment, I've been using these no name batteries with my Vamo V5 and V8's, and I felt that they were completely safe, as they were Lithium Ion batteries, but with a certain level of craftsmanship, but after having read up on the articles focusing on the dangers of battery failure, I am now surprised that I haven't had anything happen with my current system. The amount of smoking I do on this thing is tremendous, because as I had mentioned before, I have been using up a ton of e juice that was given to my by a nephew of mine, so I was going through tons of stuff that was 6mg strength, some at 3mg, and a few 12's, so I was literally all over the board. When I did buy my own, I made sure to get the strongest stuff I could, because I find that I am forced to limit the amount of vaping I can do, simply due to getting an upset stomach when approaching a nicotine overdose. This was a wonderful regulator for myself in the beginning, when all the liquids were store bought. Now though, I find that I can literally hit the Vamo all day long, when not playing a video game, or eating, other attention grabbing activities, so I would hit the pipe constantly, and never managed to feel the upset stomach warning. This alone makes me wonder how bad I was pushing those batteries. Sure, the Vamo would simply die and no longer create smoke when it was low battery time, and that was fine, but I wonder if the reason that the batteries died so soon at times was due to a high drain on my part.

Then, there's the new issue with batteries and the whole runaway overheating issue. This is truly horrific for me. I see the worst examples of what can happen to a person, and know that now I feel that I need to order a carbon fiber mitt of some sort to protect my hand while I really get a grip on this whole new setup. So while I did manage to buy a mod that I felt had great venting options, the FU hatton carbon fiber mod, I still worry now, because there are pictures of people's hands displayed where it seems that even venting the batteries didn't save their hands from horrible chemical burns. The pictures showing the results of the exploding mods were bad, really bad. So I've been reading what I can, and watching video's on YouTube to make sure I can avoid this problem as much as possible. The scary part is how I now need to learn the curve to safe battery usage. In the past, I simply used the battery until it no longer made smoke. Now, I worry that using the battery too long could damage it or myself, but similarly worry that if I charge the battery too often to avoid the lower voltages and amps, I may destroy the battery much to soon. I hadn't counted on the batteries being so expensive. And worse, now I have to also worry about the counterfeits. It's literally amazing to see just how many products we buy that can and often times are fakes. I had purchased the set of batteries I just ordered from a person who not only talks a pretty good talk about his batteries being authentic, but he also displays the pictures of what real ones look like vs what the fakes look like, to help ensure that your items are authentic, and he retains his high marks on Ebay, but now, thankfully Susan pointed out to me that these batteries, the Sony IMR batteries are apparently completely sold out or just not available due to a discontinuation. This means that even on the odd miracle that the batteries that I purchased are real, they will more than likely not be real any time in the future, due to them being obsolete or out of production.

As for the coils, those are apparently a bit less tricky. I found that everyone talks about Kanthal, so of course, I made sure that is what I got. And to get a better type, I purchased pre wound wire so that hopefully it is more durable, and has less likelihood of destroying my batteries. The wire seems to be legit, of course, seems is not near certain, as now I am questioning everything.lol I hopefully will get a bit of a better idea on how that wire is going to work, because I had to buy the pre wound type, with 24g and 26g kanthal, so I am a bit unnerved as to how this is going to be figured on any of the systems that are shown for estimating the ohms. As I can't be certain of the voltage on the batteries, if they aren't real, I worry that my entire formula is incorrect, as well as due to the lower potential continuous amps from possible counterfeits. I think at this point, this is the subject that has me the most worried. I did make sure to buy a multimeter ohms resistance checker from an online vape store, to hopefully be safer in that purchase, but of course, it could be a cheap fake also. I got the style with two different attach points, one for the 510 adapter, and the other for coils, to check them out as well, but I think I want to buy one of those that seems to be a nice round tube shape, that you screw on to the battery, as well as between the battery and the coils, to check the drop off in voltage or amps. It seems like those are very useful. I will be sure to buy one asap.

And what I had previously been worried about the most was the e liquid mixing itself. Making sure the formula was correct was a stressful endeavor. Hopefully, using two separate sites and using their calculators made me feel confident that I had found the right mix. It gave me, and don't quote me, I already put up the paperwork I printed out, but it was around 32 percent of the 75mg/ml nicotine, fifteen percent or so flavoring, and the rest in the 60/40 blend of the vg pg. This was to give me a good strong 24mg nicotine liquid, and with the amount of nicotine I purchased, the 250ml bottle, using the calculator and my own figures, this should give me around 26 bottles of 30ml fluid. This would all cost around 3.64 in liquids total, and around .49 cents per plastic 50ml container with the nice metal drip tip, so that I have plenty of space in the bottle for shaking it up to get it nicely blended. I went ahead and used the ratios given to me by the calculator, and mixed myself up one 30ml bottle of e liquid/juice, and have it in a nice dark and cool area, so it can blend well, and I shook it enough to get it full of nice little bubbles, so it properly aerates. Now I figure I'll leave it at least until some time tomorrow to try it out, but the directions I saw online on YouTube said that it would take around five days to fully flavor, so I have time to wait to see how it blooms:)hehe I think they called it steeping the bottle. Not sure:) So pretty much, I have until late next week to find out if I can learn everything else there is to learn about the mods, using the batteries safely, hoping that I didn't get taken for a fool on those Sony Hybrid batteries. I have different types of coils coming, the Little Boy Carbon Fiber RDA comes with a few ready made coils and some nice Japanese cotton, so I'm interested in seeing how long the cotton lasts, because I made sure to buy some Ekowool, the stuff that is purely synthetic, to see if that will last longer than normal cotton. To this day, most of the coils I have purchased seem to die an early death due to the cotton turning black, and making the liquid disgusting. Basically, this means I have two different types of wick material to try out, the Japanese cotton and the ekowool, three types of coils, the ready made ones that come with the RDA, the twisted kanthal wire I purchased, and some single wire kanthal I have as a bonus for something else I purchased.

It sort of feels like a mini Christmas, due to the huge number of new little toys I got, but hopefully, this investment is going to save me a ton of money over the long haul, as the coils I buy right now, whether they be the Kanger mini type coils, or the Aspire nautilus BVC or BVD type coils are around fifteen dollars per five, and can be up to 25 per five coils. Worst on those, they don't last more than a few days at the rate that I hit the Vamo. And of course there is the savings in the cost of the eliquid to look forward to. I was having to spend 20 dollars per 30ml bottle, plus gas to get to the local vape shop a good twenty minute drive away from my home.

But through this all, I have been fortunate enough to have you wonderful people here to give me advice and help transition myself from being a Vamo vaper, hopefully to a full on mod vaper, so I can make big boy smoke, without big boy costs:)hehe I am sure to get on again in the morning, after getting some sleep, to begin going over the hard parts again, because I am nowhere near the level of knowledge that I need to have on the subject, but it's been a rather fun ride. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to help a stranger, I know that most people probably don't bother thanking you guys, so I'm going to be sure that I do my part, because I've gotten enough information to warrant a membership fee:) I can safely say that I would not be comfortable without having first spoken to all of you, Susan, yourself, and the others are great people and hopefully new friends! Please feel free to get in touch with me at any time, it will be nice to continue learning from everyone, I am not the proud type that wants everything to be my way. I am much more comfortable when I have the advice from people that know what they are doing. It's the reason I ask for specifics, not because I'd like to place the blame on someone for their information, but because I know that the information I'm being given can save my lots of pain and suffering, as well as a ton of money, by not having to buy a ton of books on the matter.

So again, Thank you guys, all of you, I am truly happy to be here and hope that I'll continue to hear from you! ;) And by the way Wolfenstark, I absolutely love your home country and hometown. Australia is a dream to me, I don't know what it is, but the Aussie accent drives me nuts, I would love to one day visit Sydney. I am sure within a few hours, I would be in heaven:) Are the stories of monster spiders true? Where spiders are lurking everywhere, waiting to pounce?:) I've had people talk about how they hear these type of things so often, the stereotypes, that they had to join in by adding that they drive their kangaroos to work.hehe Apparently, the rumor squashing involves the use of tons of apparent fallacies.hehe

Hey guys and gals, just wanted to let everyone know, I made my first batch of e juice yesterday when I got off here and everything is good. I think the recipe calculator was too high on the flavoring, but it may be set for the immediate use flavoring and not the super concentrate which takes longer to brew. Regardless, I didn't die from making the nicotine, so that's a plus:p
