Wow, I had no idea that ecigarettes had become so popular. What a great resource here. I'm ready to take the plunge and am looking for a little advice. I have read through some of the threads to give me a little idea of what's going on. I'll start with a profile to maybe help with any advice. So here I go:

I'm 44 years old and have been smoking for 26 years. Smoke about 1 1/2 to 2 packs a day of Marlboro Ultra Lights. My sole reason for trying ecigarettes is to quit smoking traditional cigarettes. The reason for quitting is simple and really only one. Health!!!! I did take one hit off of a ecigarette and was impressed with the similarity of a traditional cig. But again it was only one hit.

Not made of money but want to give myself the best shot possible of this becoming successful so in that sense money's no object I guess. Not interested at this point in flavors other than a flavor that's as close to Marlboro as possible. I would consider convenience important as well so quality and durability would be important.

So,I'm looking for advice on what the best ecigarette is out there for quality and durability. I'm thinking a 2 month supply would be good to start out with and was wondering what all would need to be ordered for a 2 month supply.

Also for those of you out there that have used ecigarettes to quit traditional did you go cold turkey or slowly introduce. I know everyone is different but would love to hear your success stories and how you got there.

Thanks again for all of your help. Hoping to become a long time member of this community.

Hi Shark_Bait, Welcome to the forum. I started with a KR808D-1 system. I am now using my Ego most of the time with the KR8088 as back up. Both of these systems have their advantages. I like the flavor of the KR808 better than the Ego. I like conveniece of the Mega Cartomizer on the Ego (for going to work). I enjoy the convenience of cartomizers on both systems. I fill them in the morning, or at my desk and then I am good to go for a long time. They fit my busy lifestyle.

The first two days using my e-cig ( 18mg nic) I needed a real cig first thing in the morning. I found that if I had a cartomizer with a higher dose of nic for the first thing in the morning that I didn't need that real cig and haven't had one since. I don't need that high dose nic anymore. Today will be 12 weeks with out a cig.

Everybody's needs are individual. With a little experimentation you will find whats right for you. Best of luck to you.

Your choice of hardware will depend partly on your needs. For example, both the 510 and the Ego are good, and the 510 is smaller (and more 'cigarette-like'), but the batteries need to be recharged every couple of hours. The Ego is slightly bigger, but the bateries should last 6 - 10 hours. So if you travel or move around a lot, a 510 might not be a good choice. You can read up on the various models in the ECF Library.

The ECF Library

Also, make sure you order juice (e-liquid). If you buy a starter kit, the pre-filled cartridges which come with most kits don't usually taste that wonderful, so it's better to get some decent juice. I'd say that 50% of the vaping experience depends on having good juice.

I think you'll find that vaping does involve a bit of effort to find the right combination of hardware and flavor, but it's worth it because, unlike many other alternatives to smoking, vaping actually works for most people. Not everyone quits on Day One. Some taper off, but the success rate is well in excess of 60% or more.

Hi Kevin, welcome to ECF. My best advice is to go with the eGo and a variety of juices in sample sizes to see what you really like, I thought I would need tobacco flavors and they didn't work for me, I took months of e-cigs before I tried sweet flavors and then it clicked, 3 days later I was smoke free almost by accident. I suggest going to FreedomSmokeUSA , they carry the eGo, with it I would order a drip tip, some empty cartomizers and it comes with cartridges, this way you will get to find what works for you. I use the drip method and it is the easiest for me but many use cartomizers when they are out and especially when driving. They also have some of the best juice and you can order sample sizes, their tobacco flavors like maxbro, wyatt earp and ry4 are very popular but I would try a few of the other flavors as well, you might surprise yourself. They have cheap shipping and usually get your packages within 3 or 4 days. So get several samples, try them and then order bigger bottles of what you like.

Do as much reading on this site as you can, there are many good units, not just the one I suggested but it is what I use now and was finally able to give up analogs a month ago today and don't even want one anymore. It is really amazing because I didn't think I would ever totally quit.

Hiya Sharkbait and welcome to the world of vaping, eh heh. Well, you say you smoke 1 and half to two packs a day. If cigs cost about the same as they do here in Tx you are probably spending close to $300 a month on them.

I have been vaping for 10 weeks. Stopped smoking analogs on the first day I got my eGo. So, I have to recommend the eGo. I got my starter kit from Cignot.com. Very good service and highly recommended by many. The kit cost $69 and qualified for free shipping. I would say also to go ahead and order the 3 pack of spare atomizers at the same time. $25 and the shipping would be free too.

You will definitely need some additional e-juice because the prefilled carts don't last very long. Maybe a day and half for all 5.

The place you get your hardware from is not always the best place to get juice. I would look at Freedomsmokeusa and check out some of their tobacco flavors. I particularly like their Max/Boro Ultimate. Don't be afraid to try non-tobacco flavors, some of them can be very tasty. Also, rember to use the coupon code freedomsmokeusa for 10 percent off your order.

I can't recommend a nicotine strength because that varies so much from person to person. The type, and how much you smoked analogs does not really relate to what strength juice you will be happy with. Suggest you try several different strengths from 12mg, 18mg, and 24mg.

Good luck and enjoy.

Welcome and the above advice is spot on. You have shortened you learning curve if you listen. My story is almost exactly the same except... 45 smoked 27.5 years and my coffin nails were Marb lights. Don't worry about 2 month supply. Get 510 product either standard or eGo....I would lean towards the eGo path since you are 1.5 pack/day and the batt life is better. Get a tobacco flavor juice but you will switch soon. I find coffee flavors like cappaccino do it for me. MAKE SURE you hae extra atty's. When I started I was hard on them and killed a few. Atty life has gone up considerably over the last few weeks! Standard atty's to start but don't stock to many, you will want to switch to the LR type soon. Once you do you won't want a standard atty. Good luck and enjoy this new hobby and remeber the money you will be spending would have been ...... away on smokes anyway.

Hi and welcome! I'm 44 and smoked 1 to 1.5 PAD of menthol light 100s for 21 years. I started vaping last month. Unfortunately, I didn't find this forum until after I made my first purchase. Like so many who started out with zero amount of information on the subject, I went with a model that looks just like a cigarette. In some ways it was a huge mistake, but in others it wasn't. It was a mistake because the kits I bought (I bought one for me and one for my husband) each had a defective battery. So, while we got that sorted out with the company, we each had one unit to use. I could get maybe an hour of use out of it before having to recharge it and it takes 2 to 4 hours to recharge. With that horrible of a ratio, we still bought cigarettes to help us get through. Even after we received the replacement batteries, what we have as far as e-cigs hasn't been quite enough to get us off the smokes. The only reason it was good was that it got me started and forced me to look more into vaping, which eventually led me to this forum.

My husband and I really want to quite cigarettes and I knew this model we have wasn't going to do it, at least not for me anyway. So, I ordered an eGo kit a couple of days ago. I'm really hoping it will come in the mail today! With the first kit we ordered, we also ordered menthol juice to go with it. I don't really care for the flavor (not that there is much in the way of menthol flavor in their juice) so I bought some PG and a peppermint flavor to mix with it and found it to be a bit better. I did try a prefilled cartridge that came with the kit that was a chocolate flavor. I tried it on an atomizer that still had some mint flavor on it. The two combined was awesome for me! I really liked the mint chocolate flavor. I was very surprised that I prefer vaping food flavors over a tobacco menthol flavor.

The day I placed my order for the eGo, I also bought some DIY supplies and some chocolate flavoring so I can start mixing my own juices. I don't want to have to play the game of ordering samples to see what I will like and then have flavors laying around that I don't like and I've always been more of a DIY type of person anyway. I think with the combination of having a better e-cig and making my own juice, I'll be free of real cigarettes very soon! Once you find what works for you, you'll quickly pick up the habit of stalking the postman like the rest of us do!
