Hello everyone, just started vaping about 3 weeks ago. I started off with an NJOY, and a Clayton brand e-cig. Arkansas (to my knowledge does not have a single ecig shop that carries anything more than Nicstick liquid as well) So, I did what I could for the start. Now 2 weeks later, I have my Ego-C starter kit with the 1000 mah batteries, clearomizers, cartomizers and atomizers, and a large assortment of e-liquids (small 10ml sizes) while I figure out what works best for me. NJOY's and Clayton's in the drawer as a back-up for hard times... really hard times.....

I have smoked cigarettes since I was 16 years old (26 year analog smoker) as of now, I'm 43. I am married and have 2 boys: 11 and 9 yrs old. A friend of mine at work was diagnosed with some blockage around his heart and the doctor told him to put down the cigarettes and get an e-cig, or else.... so he did. He showed it to me 3 weeks ago and the proverbial light bulb went off in my head... I have an addictive personality I suppose. So when I get into something, I go for broke. Usually this is probably a bad trait, but in this particular instance it seems to be one of the smartest things I've stumbled upon / done in a looooong time.

I grew up in a house full of smokers (as I'm sure a lot of you did too) so needless to say I became a smoker. One of the reasons for picking up the e-cig is to become a full fledged ex-smoker. One big reason is for my health, and the other reason is for those around me, I would hate myself if I were the reason my kids started smoking. I want to be a good example, and that's what brought me to you fine people. So any help and encouragement is most appreciated. I will hopefully in turn, be able to return the favor down the road when I become an expert vaper/ex-smoker, and pass along what I have learned from you guys to someone new, and save a life or two along the way. So my motives for info are both selfish and selfless at the same time! Sweet...

After I picked up my first e-cigs mentioned above, I cut down from about 2 packs per day, to under a pack per day. Now that I have the Ego-C, I am down to between 4 and 6 analogs per day. (except for Saturday I had 9 analogs, as well as 2 Yeager bombs, and 2 pitchers of beer, so I didn't think that was too bad). So far today, I have only had 1. Yaaah! My goal is to be completely quit by New Years day 2013. Fingers crossed!

Some big topics on my agenda are as follows (and I think they might be pretty common and addressed already, but)..
* Best e-juice to emulate a real cigarette.
* PG versus VG.
* Mixing my own flavors using liquid nicotine. (I bought 24mg, but my preference at the moment is 18 mg e-juice).
* Best method to keep cost down, but get the best quality of Vape, so far I am digging the clearomizers, but have heard a lot of negatives about leaking, etc.) But I really like them so far the best...
* Cleaning, maintenance, and how to tell when something is going bad hardware wise).
* Find the best websites to purchase stuff.
* LAST BUT NOT LEAST: Meet some really cool folks that have the same goals as me! Hopefully there are some friends to be made along the way on our journey together!

In a nutshell, I don't know crud from Shinola when it comes to vaping, but I am here to learn. Honestly I don't know when I've been more excited about something than I am this, and I hope to be able to keep it up. Lord knows I sure did with the analogs. And I feel a new lease on life with this newly discovered alternative, that can help me become a better dad, husband, and make me smell/feel/look better as well while I vape my way into a very ripe old age.

Thanks for having me, I feel much better! :)

Hey Razorback - Congrats! I have smoked for 42 yrs and have been only vaping since March of this year. I was surprised how easy it was to lay the analogs down. If you want to stay with Ego for a bit till you take the plunge (if ever) into the advanced vaporizers (APV like Provari), I would suggest Ego Twist battery they are vv (variable voltage) and ViVi Nova tanks. The tanks are easy to clean and come with 2 extra heads.

As far as juice goes - that is so subjective. I have bought juice because someone has gone on about how good only to discover that my taste buds disagreed. I would suggest that you first buy small sample bottles of a flavor till you get what you like. You have to decide whether you want tobacco flavors or fruity/sugary flavors. With some new vapor friends of mine, I have found that they like COV4 RY4 from Clouds of Vaper.....tobacco with a hint of caramel and they like the way it smell too. But like I said, taste in juice is very subjective. Have fun and vape on!! Your family and health will thank you!

PS - This forum has alot of info for cleaning/maintenance etc...just peruse it and you will find. Also, check out YouTube for videos on this stuff.

Welcome to ECF and thanks for sharing your story. To be one of many to answer your questions:

* Best e-juice to emulate a real cigarette. (Not many of us want the taste of real cigarette, wait a few days of just vaping and then take a puff or two off your old cigarettes.... Holy Crap Batman, it is horrible.... BUT there are some good tasting tobacco flavors)

* PG versus VG. (PG=More Flavor; VG=More Smoke)

* Mixing my own flavors using liquid nicotine. (I bought 24mg, but my preference at the moment is 18 mg e-juice).(There is an entire area for DIY, be sure to visit it and read it carefully)

* Best method to keep cost down, but get the best quality of Vape, so far I am digging the clearomizers, but have heard a lot of negatives about leaking, etc.) But I really like them so far the best... (Do not rush into different devices, if it works for you then it is golden. If it is not broke, don't fix it) :)

* Cleaning, maintenance, and how to tell when something is going bad hardware wise). (Hot Water should take care of just everything. Bad hardware just stops working)

* Find the best websites to purchase stuff. (No vendor sells everything. Check the co-op section on great savings)

* LAST BUT NOT LEAST: Meet some really cool folks that have the same goals as me! Hopefully there are some friends to be made along the way on our journey together! :)

What Mustang said! If you are happy with your hardware, stick with it. If/when it fails then look for alternatives. Do you have backups at the ready? You really need to have at LEAST two of everything.

I have 2 regular eGo 650 batteries, 2 eGo Twists (variable voltage) in 1000 mAh and one Twist in the 650 mAh. I also have 2 chargers and 5 larger Novas and 3 mini Novas. If one fails for any reason, I have backups. I have been vaping for, wow, three months now. Cig free for 2 of them.

Juice is really the hardest part. As Mustang said, samples until you find something that works for you. There is another part of this forum that is all about the eliquid. Get your post count up to 5, wait till the server resets, then you will be able to explore. Just reply to threads or even this one, to get your post count up there. It really doesn't take that long. :)

Welcome to ECF :D

Welcome & congrats. on your major cut back. You can get a lot of nice vape gear for the cost of 2p.a.d.! Find a juice you really like and I bet you will be golden. You know it works ,you have proven that. Don't look back. Hope each day gets a little better for you. Take a look at
www.vaporsearchusa.com to see if there is a store near you. Best wishes.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome, the well wishes and the great advice. I'm in it to win it, so I take each post seriously and have read them all. Not to toot my own horn, but since yesterday at 8am CT, I smoked still just that 1 cigarette mentioned in my original post, and I have to say I'm not missing it too bad at all. I love coffee, and without that morning smoke it isn't quite the same (referring to all the other times I tried to quit smoking) but with my eGo-C and Foldgers in hand, it was a breeze! I'm still flabbergasted and looking for the down side here, and guess I'm still skeptical as this all seems too good to be true. The old saying is if something seems too good to be true, it probably is... But I'm gonna lose that mentality right quick. Thanks again everybody, and I'll be on here looking around. Got to get those 5 posts so I can start digging in deeper!

Yours truly,

Don't feel bad about that one cig. It took me a few weeks to really trust that vaping WILL take care of my need for nic. Oh I know what you mean about this seems too easy! I was super skeptical that this would work but when I went down to only a few cigs a day immediately, I thought WOW maybe this will work! Give it a chance. One day you might go to take a drag off that cig and think. OMG this is just nasty!

One morning I was smoking and I had my gear next to me also, just reading the forum. Cig is in the ashtray burning. Then I realized I picked up my PV instead of the cig. That was my last morning 1/8th of a cig. My bedtime cig took a while longer to get rid of. The last 2 days before giving them up completely, I would just take 2 hits and put it out because it was so gross.

You will get there. :)

Welcome and I will echo what everyone else has been saying there are many of us that started gradually. Having an analog once in a while is not a bad thing you are still reducing the amount of harmful chemicals you are taking in by vaping the majority of the time. Just keep it up and you should need the analogs less and less. Most importantly don't give up we are all here for support if you need it.

Hey guys, I'm still here and hanging tough. No analog for almost 4 days now and not missing it too bad at all. I had a question (in case anyone sees this)... Where can I get small bottles 3ml or so of sample flavors from a reputable vendor that won't mind sending me a bunch of them... Not for free of course, but so I can try to hone in on some good flavors (tobacco, fruity, sweet, cigar, candy, vanilla, etc. whatever) without breaking the bank! This kind of juice vendor seems to be hard to come by. Thanks in advance!

Razorback! Go Hogs!

BTW, I looked on the site, and there was a string talking about it, but it was rather old and some of the sites didn't exist anymore. Thanks again!

Heather's Heavenly Vapes has 3ml samples. The only thing is you don't get a choice in PG/VG or nic mg. all samples are 70/30 PG/VG. and nic is 12mg. Her juices are divine!
