Hello from Kentuckyland, just tried E-cigs for the first time today.

Well, I do declare that I've been lurking. :) I've quite frankly tried many ways to quit, but I haven't picked up my pipe for around five hours for the first time in ages. Just got my kit today late afternoon, sorted it no worries and it flippin' works! I've read so many accounts of people quitting the day they get their first kit and so far so good! I have really high hopes of never going back to tobacco although I do have some left and it may be tempting to A/B for the heck of it, but I can't believe the throat hit and vapor that's exactly like smoke to me.

Wee bit of history, I'm quite old, smoked most of my life, menthol cigs in college but most of my life half cowboys (Marlboro lights). Cigs got stupid expensive so I switched to a pipe, tried many tobaccos and settled on Prince Albert luxury pouch (crimp cut sucks when compared to the lux pouch).

I can't seem to find it, but a couple of days ago I found a thread on perfect starter kit. I'm very right brained and find it difficult to remember facts and figures over impressions but ordered the emax kit and I'm very impressed for the first day. Actually, quite floored and it's working and fulfilling my urges and as I said, only five hours, but I'm understanding how people can drop the habit the day they start with the e-cigs! Very open eyes and happy right this minute!

I have some questions and will sort the proper forum headers to ask, but just in case, if anyone ever smoked Prince Albert in a pipe, is there a close E liquid to that?

I got the Marlboro equivalent with my kit and I like it. I also got 555 or T-5 and it's got this cow dung aftertaste that's freaking me out in a bad way. Could I mix menthol with it and save it?

Also, I'm not really into tutty fruity flavors per se but for those of you who replaced tobacco with these loverly e-cigs, are there like food flavors you've started to really dig?

Thanks to anyone who responds! :)

I like "bakery" flavors--vanillas (lots of good ones out there). Have fallen in love with chocolate/banana also. And recently got a Caramel Latte from Killer Juice, which I can't put down, and it never occurred to me that I'd like to vape a coffee flavor. The e-juice discussion sub-forum has all kinds of info about who likes what juice and where to get good juices and good deals. You can post there when you get your 5 posts in, but you can go read there now and get some good ideas to get your started. OH and congrats on switching to vaping. I find that it is much more fun that smoking ever could be.:vapor:

I was a 40 year very heavy chain smoker. I searched for and tried every tobacco flavor I could find for the first 2-3 months. I likely tried over 50 different tobaccos from 7-8 vendors. In one of my batches of samples I threw in a cherry cigar flavor, and that's when I realized that fruits were what worked for me...I never considered myself a fruity kind of guy...who knew?

Cherry and grape flavors kept me going for another 6 months until I discovered my true favorite...unflavored. At least to me, unflavored nicotine is the closest to what I vaguely remember smoking cigarettes to taste like.

I think it is important to remember that, in time your tastes and sense of smell will change. At first some basic tobaccos were fine (555, Cowboy and Turkish) but all of a sudden they tasted like dung. Sorry to tell you that I never found a tobacco flavor that tasted anything like tobacco.

Now, after saying all of that, my wife, who was also a long term smoker, has been perfectly content with tobacco flavors from Heathers Heavenly Vapes. They have many NET (Naturally Extracted Tobacco) flavors. You might give them a try. That's where I got that cherry cigar flavor (Sweet Swish) that kept me going for a few months.

Hi David!
Welcome to ECF and congrats on making the switch!

For me the liquids have been my favorite part of this experience, trying everything I can get my hands on. I've been really surprised by what I liked and what I didn't. If you have a vape shop around you with a tasting bar, I highly recommend trying every single flavor they have. Those fruity tooties just might surprise you ;)

For me, primarily I like a lot of the fruits, and bakery flavors especially cinnamon danish, custards, vanilla, some caramels...yum!. I tried many tobaccos and, for me, there were many I just didn't like or were just OK. Two I do enjoy are from 503 - Epicure - cigar + scotch. Nicoticket - The Virus - very interesting, Tobacco + peanuts + chocolate?? but a constantly changing flavor. They have another one called Radioactive that is in the mail currently. Can't wait to try it!

On your adding some menthol question....it doesn't sound like you can make it much worse. I'd vote to give it a shot!

Good luck on your journey....I found it to be fun one :)

Hi and welcome!

My only comment is that you should be patient with that 555. I bought some from Mt Baker Vapor and it was horrible when I first got it. I put it away, let it sit for a full month, and now it's one of my favorites. Tobacco flavors often need a lot of 'steeping' time.

Oh, and though I had no real intention of it working out this way, the day I got my first kit was the last day I smoked. Hope it works that way for you!

Congrats David from a fellow Kentuckian, for me to quit my Marlboro Reds was a vendor that satisfied both of my tobacco/bakery urges and I found that with Nicoticket. Radioactive and H1N1 are both naturally extracted tobacco juices with some sweet notes added in. Both juices are outstanding, great pricing for a top notch product, and the best customer service hands down. This is my top recommendation but your taste is your own and I wish you the best of luck in your journey in staying off the pipe and on the vapor.

First I wanted to show you a place that is a few minutes down the road from me: Hand-Crafted ePipes, custom made personal vaping devices from ePipeMods.com ...more than just an eCig Just thought I'd let you take a look at that.. They're pretty much Ecigs in a pipe shape.

Second, Give it a few days to see if you start to crave cigarettes. From my experience, people will still crave a cigarette from time to time. However, you will notice from day one your smoking urges go almost next to nil.

Now, When I first started, I loved semi-tobacco flavors. RY4 was my go to juice. It's pretty much a caramel-tobacco type. I still vape caramel, but have given up RY4 for more fruity flavors, but not because I didn't like it.. I planned on moving as far away from tobacco flavors as I could to help "solidify" the smoking quitting. Here's some non fruity flavors I love and where I got(get) them from...

RY4 This is the first eliquid I truly loved.
Jamacain Rum Like a butterscotch with a kick. I prefer 1-3 extra shots.
Butterscotch Great sweet taste.
Caramel Candy sweet and fufilling taste to me.

I have seen some pipe tobacco flavors out there, but I don't know what Prince Albert tastes like. Doing a search for that flavor turned up this:

VZ Grandpa's Tobacco E-Liquid | E Juice - E Cig eGo, E juice, Mods, Cartomizers, Liquid Nicotine, DIY Flavorings

And just as a side note, none will advertise a name brand. IF their name brand mimicks something else, they'll come up with some creative name that gives you the idea that it's what it's based on.

good luck, and welcome to the forum!

Hi neighbor! I've only been using ecigs for about 3 months and I was also a 40+ years smoker. My local shop set me up with a kit with a 7 leaf blend ejuice at 12mg of nicotine because they were out of the 18 and 24. I have been using that juice ever since at 18 to 24mg mainly because it has that familiar throat hit of a cigarette. Mean time I have been trying all sorts of juices but nothing I wanted to buy again with the exception of a local caramel coffee called Solar Joe. I've had to put it away for a while. I could only do the syrup sweet thing for so long. Saturday I got Nicotickets custard and have been using it everyday since. Today I didn't even pick up my 7 leaf blend. Surprise, maybe I don't have to have that throat hit everyday. I now am waiting for their 2 tobacco juices, mentioned in an earlier post. I also agree with that person about their great customer service.
Anyway like someone said earlier, its a journey. You'll find something that works for you and keeps you off those nasty cigs. Good luck and enjoy!

Great to hear! You have an advantage over alot of smokers, with the fact you smoke out of a pipe! Most people need the motion of cigarettes, so the transition can be very difficult considering how crappy most of the cig-a-likes are. There are actually vaping batteries that are shaped like pipes as well, if that would help any. I suggest staying away from most cigarette flavors..the sad truth, is menthol tobacco flavors are the only flavors that actually taste anything like tobacco.

I highly reccomend trying vapage's coffee flavor. Its closer to a cigarrette, and has very very little sweetness to it. Link below:
Coffee E-Liquid - Gourmet Flavors - E-Liquid

For a flavor that is more like a rich tobacco flavor I would go with Johnson creeks Domestic Blend. 1.8% is a good nicotine level to start at. Its very mild, yet has a robust taste like that of a pipe tobacco. And like other very little sweetness. Link below:
Knowing what you smoked before, I actually Highly recommend this. Its very very similar.
Domestic Smoke Juice Johnson Creek Smoke Juice

Neither of these flavors have a bad aftertaste, although taste is subjective.

Stay strong and kick the smoke to the curb! This is a great thing that your doing, and you gotta remember that!

David -- this is good advice that Cornbread has given you here. No doubt about it, Nicoticket can help you with this. The Virus (H1N1) and Radioactive are good choices for you. You won't believe how much better juices can taste than what came with your kit and what is available in stores. Without a good juice, quitting a 40 year habit is very difficult. I know, I've been there! Sooner or later you are going to miss what you had or feel like you "gave up" something. A really good juice makes you think you got something BETTER, and you are not giving up a single THING! Take a look at their website. They are a great company, never disappointed me, and they will ship your juice right away, no waiting. http://www.nicoticket.com

I was born in Knox County, living up in Michigan now -- I bet you are seeing some pretty spring weather with the trees and flowers starting to bloom - and now if you can make this quit successful, you will be around to enjoy many more! GOOD LUCK fellow Kentuckian!
